  • "I'm a Rosina. It's my paternal grandmother's name. Her nan was called Rosina. It's a family tradition to call baby girls Rosina Philomena or Philomena Rosina. I'm Rosina Ethel, as my mum is more or less fully English and her Dad's aunt was called Ethel. I'm an 8th Italian. People keep calling me Rosie. When I meet people for the first time, they mispronounce my name. The way I like to say it is "Rose-ee-na" though my family say it "Roz-ina". The most common mispronounciation of my name that I have heard is "Rose-eye-na". I am the only student at my school to be called Rosina. One girl was called Rosina but she spelt it Roseina. She left. I don't really hear my name that much, apart from being with my nan as we share the same name. I love the name, personally." Apr. 17, 2020: Report as inappropriate

Anyway, I like it, because it isn't very frequent and sounds goods, almost noble." Jan. 8, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Rosina and I am very proud of my name. I am the 5th generation of my German name. Although many people believe it is a Italian or Islamic name, I remind them it is like Christina, Tina or Phillipina and people tend to understand. It originated from the german word horse (hros or ros). A flower was named Rose after the name horse. And so lived the new name Rose. It is a ladies name with strength." • "As a child i wanted to change my name.now after reading about my name i feel i,ve just met the most intresting person on earth.i,m proud to be a rosina" Nov. 16, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Rosina but I'm not too keen on it really, mostly because people used to automatically shorten it to Rosie and I'm really not a Rosie! As far as I knew, it's of Italian origin and means 'little rose'. It's a bit too girly for me, I'm not very rose-like or little! I've also been told that it's related to the Irish name Roisin, and I once met a Pakistani lady who told me her sister was called Rosina and that in their language it means 'brightly coloured' or 'vivid'. That suits me a bit more than being a little rose! I started getting people to called me Rozi (pronounced with a short O, not like Rosie) when I was about 10, and as I got older I switched to Rosa for a short version. No-one calls me Rosina any more apart from my grandma :-) One thing about my name is that we've always pronounced it Roz-eena whereas I think other people pronounce it Rose-eena (with a long O). When I was little it used to annoy me when people said it wrong." Nov. 1, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Rosina and I was named after my German Grandmother and she was named after her grandmother - it is a name that has been handed down through my family for generations and I am very proud of it. I am in Australia and the name lives on. I am known as Rosi as was my Grandmother. I met a young girl here one day in a shopping centre whose name tag said "Rosi". When I asked her what it stood for I was very surprised to learn that her full name was Rosina. It's a beautiful name meaning of the rose and can be shortened to Rose or Rosi which people seem to love." Jun. 27, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am a Rpsina, born 1977. My legal name is actually Rosina-Maria named after my 2 Italian great grandmothers both of Naples, Italy. More often than not, people do pronouce my name incorrectly and think it is Regina or Rosita; some also confuse the ethinicity as well, although I have met Latin American woman with my same exact name even though it is Italian in origin. Some also say "ro-see-na" when actually the proper way of pronoucing it is "ro-zee-na" "s" in Italian is a "z" sound. I have met very very few people with my name. As a child, I would find my name in the Obituary pages all the time-- all the old Italian Ladies who had passed away! I have grown to like my name and find it to be a strong name. The more and more I find out about my namesake, there are similarities in personality. In conclusion, my name might be very different, and really doesnt go with a lot of last names, but overall it is a conversation piece! I must thank my mother for keeping cultural tradition alive and well!" Mar. 20, 2006: Report as inappropriate
