"Patricia is a cool name, decent, I know a Patricia from my old Neighborhood, very nice woman,
But countless people are reminded of the character of
Patricia "Peppermint Patty" Reichardt which was one of the major female characters in the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz." Feb. 26, 2021:
"My name is Patricia Louise and I love my name, especially as I get older! (I was born in 1965). When I was a little girl my dad told me that he named me, because he wanted a girl named Patricia. My middle name comes from my mother. She's Mary Louise and I am Patricia Louise. My family calls me Pat, with a few cousins calling me Patricia. Never have gone by Patti, Patty, Trish or Tricia, but don't have a problem when friends or colleagues call me Pat. In fact, I find it endearing when friends call me Pat automatically, but often people will ask what I prefer to be called. I often answer, "Patricia or Pat," but actually I do really enjoy being called Patricia. I think it's a beautiful and empowering name." Nov. 13, 2019:
"My name is Patricia Kaye ______ I was born in 56 when Patricia was very popular, but haven?t known a lot of Patricias. I was called Pat by my family when growing up. Went through a short experimental phase in Jr High as Patty, but didn?t like it. Finally at about 30 I went to Patricia, starting at my Job, and now the only people who call me Pat are family, or folks who have known me a really long time. I don?t ask them to change, but sometimes don?t realize someone?s addressing me when they use ?Pat.? I never liked being called ?Pat.? I always thought it sounded ?butch,? Not that there?s anything wrong with that ;-D. But I feel decidedly feminine. Why waste a beautiful name like Patricia!!!
According to my mom, her favorite name was Lydia, which is also a wonderful name, but I didn?t get that one. I?m from a huge family-I have 22 aunts and uncles by blood, and about 48 if you count their spouses and ex-spouses! Lots of offspring to work on the farm! Other family members have done extensive genealogy many many generations back, and there aren?t any more of me. I think mom just liked the name. We?re Scots-Irish, so I think it?s apropos.
So.....I wouldn?t trade my name, but if I did.....Lydia would be nice! :-)" Oct. 25, 2019:
"My name is Patricia and growing up I was called Pat or Isha. Never really liked those nicknames, Patricia was a rare name while I was growing up. In highschool, when I moved, people started to call me Tricia (everyone spelled it as Trisha -_-) then eventually Trish. I think its lazy of them, I like how Trish just rolls off the tongue but I prefer to be called Patricia (patreesea not pat-ree-SHA). I was given the name because my dad is Irish and it was tradition to name the members Patricia, Patrick, Marie, and John. Most of my relatives have one of those but I have both Patricia and Marie to honor my grandma whom I never met. I never go by Marie though unless I wanted to pretend to be a sweet young lady, because Patricia is so high and mighty lol." Jan. 1, 2019:
"There were lots of Patricias when I was in school and I am not sure where they all are as I never hear the name anymore. My nickname is as a child was Patsy...I didn't always like it but I like it now. My friends, however, call me Pat...which sounds blah but to insist on Patricia sounds so pompous. Once met a Patricia that was emphatic that she be called that...she got boring." Apr. 24, 2018:
"It is my name. I love it. I was named after my mom's brother, Patrick, and my maternal grandmother's sister, Patricia. When I was very little, my family called me Trish or Trisha, but as I got older, my family leaned towards calling me Patty, as well as, Pattycake or Pattycakes. Most of my friends call me Patricia, but some who have known me longer call me Patty. On rare occasion, I am called Pat. I love my name, it's not as common anywhere, which is part of the reason I love it! 10/10, love my name.
On a sidenote- people jokingly call me Patrick. Doesn't bother me, I too think it's humorous!" Apr. 6, 2018:
"my name is Patricia and it's great but i prefer to be call Trish my entire family calls me Trish except form my grandma but i didn't mind. but all my friends call my Patricia because of school have thought of changing my name to trish but i don't know" Jun. 30, 2015:
"My name is Lois Patricia, but my family always called me Patricia, so that's the name I use and prefer to be called. I was born in the early 1950s and I noticed there are very few Patricias these days, which is okay. Some of my friends call me Pat, but I don't like it. I do sometimes use Patty as an alias when I call to order food for pick up or in other cases when I don't want people to know my real name. I like my name, but sometimes I think it is too long to pronounce, which is why people call me Pat or Trisha sometimes. I think one syllable names are better than 3." Feb. 5, 2015:
"Some may think the name Patricia may sound mature for a child, so Patty would be a nice shortened version of the name, I think. But as you enter the workplace , Patricia is a name that exudes respect and strength. Powerful, yet effeminate ! And the name offers so many nickname possibilities ! .Patty or Patsy for a cute version. Trish or Tricia for not too cute but not too official. Patricia for any version. And you can choose whatever version you want depending on your mood or how you view yourself. How many names can offer the same versatility? personally, i can see a baby with that name though, especially if pronounced Patreeshia. Cute!" Aug. 7, 2014:
"I have always loved my name because it has a classy and professional feel into it. I've been pretty much Patrice to my relatives, Pat during high school and Trish when I was in high school. I've thinking of going by Patti or Cici in college. :)" May. 30, 2014:
"I have always loved my name. When I was a kid, I was called Patty. Now I go by Pat but like it when I am called Patty. I just think the name Patricia sounds very strong and "can do". I am so pleased I was given the name Patricia" Apr. 8, 2014:
"My name......Patricia....but go by Patty....I really think I like Patricia better... :)" Feb. 13, 2014:
"I have grown into the name..I am Patricia..then Patty and I changed it to Patti..I say it is a great name..even though I was not happy with it in my youth..I love it now" Dec. 31, 2013:
"I love my name Patricia, I think it's a beautiful, classic name but I do not like some of the nicknames such as Pat or Patty. Tricia, Trisha is still nice along with some of newer nicks for Patricia. I like that you can change it to a nickname that suits you and that you have the option to do so unlike shorter names names." May. 29, 2013:
"i love my name Patricia. I hate Pat as it also reminds me of SNL skit. You will note that as of this year you will find those who go by Pat or at least 45+. Perhaps that was the trend while growing up. I wish I saw more girls named that these days." Oct. 6, 2012:
"My name is Patricia and I really like it,people call me Pat or Patty." Jun. 24, 2010:
"My daughter's name is Patricia, after her deceased grandma. We call her Pattie-Mae. Really country sounding I know, but it fits her." May. 7, 2010:
"I like my name (Patricia) my birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, so that is the reason for my name. Everyone calls me Trish, but I would like to be called by my full name Patricia. I think it sounds more professional. :) I'm not sure how to go about making the change." Nov. 15, 2009:
"Awesome name, classic and well known. I get called Triska and Atti, I'm shocked they were actually mentioned by someone else. That's cool. I've never had any problems with this name. I've only ever heard good things about it." Sep. 12, 2009:
"Patricia is a great name. The nicknames such as Pat, Patty, Tricia or Trish are overused and getting dusty. Uncommon nicknames such as Atty, Parish, Triska and Trixie have appeal as modern nicknames for this lovely classic.
I'm very surprised this name hasn't made a 'come back' in recent years with the rise of names such as Eleanore and Charlotte." Jul. 31, 2009:
"My name is Patricia I go by Tricia most of the time though. I love my name I think its eloquent and beautiful. It is also very important to me as I was named after my grandmother." Jun. 16, 2009:
"I love my name and its meaning. As a baby, they used to call me Patsy (much to my grandfather's chagrin - as he thought it had a negative connotation). Only my best friend calls me Pat, not even my husband would dare. I like my name, specially in Castillian : "Patrithia"." Feb. 6, 2009:
"Patrýcia is my name and I like it a lot! Some of my friends are jealous, they think it's beautiful. But It took my plenty of time to like it.
I'm portuguese, so it sound differently, like the spanish "patreeseea". I think that English/US Patricia sound a little to heavy. My friends usually call me Tixa (sound like "Tija"), Tish, Pat, Patty, but I prefer the original :)" Aug. 9, 2008:
"This is a family name, passed down from an aunt. So, it is one of my daughter's middle names, and I love it for it's Irish history and meaning. I would NOT, however, want her to be called Pat, Trish, or Trisha. These are not what the name is to us - She may one day be the next "Aunt Patty" - the 5th we know of!" Jul. 14, 2008:
"My name is Patricia. I've always liked how old fashioned my name was. When I was young I went by Patty. As I got older I dropped the y and added an i, Patti. Thought it seemed more grown up. I correct anyone who tries to call me Pat. I never liked that nickname. It's a boy's name. I liked the other nicknames though that I've been called growing up: Trish, Trisha, Trishers, Tish, and my favorite, Teashy. Being the noble woman, the name suggests, is somewhat challenging but well worth it in the end. I've grown to respect my name and my mother for giving me that name.
P.S. To comment on another post if I may and say one thing. I like the name being referred to as old lace. It seems to suit me and I am quite content with that." Apr. 4, 2008:
"My name is Patricia, but I go by Tricia or Trish. I like Tricia or Trish...I usually tell everyone my name is Tricia so that they do not have the option of calling me Pat or Patty which just irritates me....especially Pat after that stupid SNL skit." Mar. 26, 2008:
"Patricia is a great name, so many nicknames that you can use. I am a Patricia and I love the name. It was a very popular name during baby boomer times that our parents gave us. I choose to make my nickname (Pattye) unusual by adding an 'e' on the end. A lot of variety this name has and a lot of nobility to the name!" Feb. 13, 2008:
"It took me a long time to appreciate my name Patricia. Growing up as Patty and then, in high school I asked to be called Pat. After seeing Saturday Night Live episode on the androgynous (sp?) Pat -- I decided I'd prefer to be called Patty or Patricia. Guess it sounds old to younger generations. I feel the same way about "Charlotte", "Harriet", who are my aunts. What goes around comes around..." Feb. 23, 2007:
"Plenty of nicknames for it, which is good as (besides myself and my grandmother) I know quite a few Patricias." Jun. 18, 2006:
"My name is Patricia Joyce, but everyone calls me P.J.I'm named Patricia after my mother and she was named after my Grandmother's friend, but everyone calls her Patsy." May. 10, 2006:
"I like Patricia. Nickname is Pat, although my Mom would call me Trish or Tricia. Do not like Patty, but people use it for children; I can understand that. Do not like Patsy! (awful!)" Nov. 29, 2005:

"I hate Patricia but don't mind Trish. My mother was called Patriica and honestly, an only child and they couldn't give me a name of my own. She got Pat (as I did at school) but my Dad always called me Trish or Trishy. Now I get annoyed if I introduce myself as Trish and they call me Pat." Jan. 11, 2015:
"I hate this name...I hate my name...
because its also the name of my cousin..argh!! hate it" Nov. 23, 2005:

"My name is Patricia and I was born in 1951 when it was most popular. I love my name and think it is very pretty. I'm surprised it hasn't made a come back. I hope some one will catch on and the name will become popular again. It's a very noble yet feminine name." Aug. 3, 2019:
"I'm of Irish ancestry and I am called Patricia. I always introduce myself as Pat so when I met a colleague who I had heard about, met in passing even, and who introduced himself as Pat (Patrick) I couldn't help but laugh and say likewise. My nickname is typically Patti/Patty. Only certain people, usually people I respect or family, get to call me Trish." Jun. 22, 2019:
"My mom and her sister are irish and they were pregnant at the same time in 1961. They wanted a Pat and Mike before they finished having children. My cousin Mike was born first so I was either Patrick or Patricia. I was Patty in junior school, Pat in high school and university. I've been Patricia now for 35 years and don't like it when people shorten my name in any way. They are just being lazy." Oct. 28, 2018:
"Patricia was my first love in High School. I will cherish her in my mind all of my life!!! Time marches on. I have been happily married to " Julie for 37 yrs. I'm lucky man!!!" Apr. 16, 2017:
"Dislike being called Pat. Yes reminds me too of a boy, it Pat on SNL. When I was a kid was called Patty. Patty fatty at one time. Ugh! Hated it. Been called Peppermint patty or pj, Trisha or Trish too. Tishy is cute for variety. I go by Patricia today. Can't keep changing the initials on the towels. ;)" Feb. 26, 2016:
"My second name is Patricia and I was named after my Mum. I was born when this name was quite popular in my country - Ireland - my Dad liked Mum's name and wanted to call me so, but he noticed that so many girls are Patricias so I got Patricia as my middle name. But now when I am a mature woman I use mainly Patricia and most people even don't know that it is my middle name. I am not a crazy fan of my name, but I think it suits me quite well and I have of course great associations, with my Mum and few good friends from school." Feb. 5, 2016:
"My name is Patricia Ellen, a family name. I am named after my grandmother and great grandmother. Growing up my family called me Patti, as a teen I transitioned to Trish and still go by Trish to this day. When introduced as Patricia people call me Pat. To me, Pat is a fighting word! I can't hate my name because it is a family name but personally I don't care for it. I like Trisha, though. Trish is okay. I relate to Trish and Trisha more so than Patricia." Dec. 1, 2015:
"I am Irish and my middle name is Patricia. I don't use it regularly, first because it makes troubles, people don't know how to pronounce it, with s or sh, and I must still correct them, and second, it's just my middle name, overused in Ireland as a first as well as a middle name, especially for women my age, and I prefer to use my more unique first name. I think it's a pity that my father called me Patricia instead of Padraigin, which my Mum preferred as my mn. It's more unique and more Irish, and less popular amongst women my age. Though I can't say I don't like my middle, it's quite elegant, strong, powerful and feminine, flows well with my first name, which is ethereal and gentle." Sep. 4, 2015:
"I like the name Patricia but people always call me fat Patricia or they say if I'm Patrick's sister which I hate so much 😈😠" Feb. 3, 2015:
"i hate it when people assume its okay to call all Patricia's "Pat" or "Patty".. I've always been a Tricia or a Trish to my friends and family...i will never be a Pat or Patty
i gotta me" May. 17, 2014:
"too many nicknames. Its confusing... not sure if I should officially go by Trish or Tricia..Tricia is better with my last name I think.. because I have a short last name.. ive gone by both at different times.. I would go by Patricia, but then people start call me Pat or Patty and these nicks just are not me..maybe I will just chance my name altogether and Go By Jane..... That might work,,,,The name is okay but I find all the nicknames confusing... would rather just have a simple name where I don't always have to explain to people what to call me...even some of my closest friends get confused about what to call me especially when they write it...As a kid I wouldn't not have even Repsonded to "Pat" because I would not have even reconized it as a version of my name.. as A kid it really confused me when people called me that.." Dec. 7, 2013:
"its my name.. I go By Tricia or Trish.. Drived me nuts when people call me Pat.. in general the name just has too many nicks, and sometimes people arnt sure what to call me.. It gets confusing.. would rather a nice simple name with no nicks.." Dec. 5, 2013:

"I have always disliked Patricia, Pat & Patty, and at 7 discovered Trish was a nickname for Patricia that I chose as a least-obnoxious option.
My problem is that so many people just assume they can call anyone named Patricia - even those who introduce themselves as Trish - Pat & get very huffy when asked to call me the name I actually use. I've had "Pat" put on official documents despite my protest - and was once told that since a woman's child was killed, that wanting to be called the name I prefer is too petty to even be requested.
I even went to the expense & effort of legally changing my name to Trish (even after 2 years, I was still discovering organizations I needed to inform). And yet, yesterday, two people called me "Patty" & when I said my legal name is Trish replied "pattee is a pronunciation of Trish".
When strangers aren't annoyed with my efforts to resist being called Pat, they are mistaking my name for "Chris".
I hope the name "Patricia" dies out. I hate it and I only wish that when I chose to drop it as my legal name that I'd gone all the way & ditched Trish, too." Aug. 29, 2013:
"My given name is Patricia, but growing up, I was always called Patty and my mom and some siblings would also call me Pat. Sometimes my sister would call me Trish or Patrish, just to be cute; not a regular basis. I'm glad that I am reading what others have wrote on this name, because I always felt not so great about the name. But, because it means "noble," that would help me to like it. But after reading what others have written, and actually seeing the name "Patricia" written out, I actually think that it's quite a beautiful name, and will enjoy wearing it proudly." Apr. 12, 2013:
"my name is patricia and its ok but my grandmas name is patricia so it sounds old to me. i go by tish with no r in it. i hate it when peole call me patty. ive only met one other kid with name patricia. my middle name is elaine so i dontgo by that either" Aug. 12, 2011:

"My name is Patricia, growing up I hated it and started going by my middle name, Nadine when I was 21. I think I would have liked the nickname Atty that other's have mentioned, but I always ended up being called Trish and that sounded so 'country' to me." Jan. 8, 2010:
"My name is Patricia Anne and I really feel that it is just blah ...nothing really too it ...kinda old sounding I always tell people that my name is Trisha so the don't start calling me Pat ( I really dispise that) I have went by trisha for so many years that I'm almost delayed when someone uses Patricia I'm like oh wait ...thats me lol" Sep. 11, 2009:
"I think the name Patricia is such a girly name and I only say that because my best friend's name is Patricia and she is such a girly girl!" Jul. 15, 2009:

Feb. 24, 2009:
