  • "I am blessed to have my name. It's so beautiful and unique." Jun. 5, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie and for years I hated my name. Growing up in Nyc everyone pronounced it Lezzlee and called me lezbo and lezbian...it was terrible. I wanted to change my name to Lee ,ag least make it a nickname, but no one would say it. When I moved to New England everyone said Lesssslue and it sounded so pretty and proper. I actually started to like it and noe I love my name. I would recommend thd name if it is pronounced correctly and a girll would be proud to be named it. Living in New England for more than 20 years I have noticed names like Elizaberth are pronounced the same way." Jan. 21, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am female and I was named after my Grandfather...and I LOVE that! I have always been told that "Lez-lie" is the female pronunciation and "Less-lie" is the male pronunciation. I have noticed something curious--women almost always pronounce my name "Less-lie" and men always pronounce my name as "Lez-lie". I don't mind either way. I consider it a privilege to carry my grandfather's name. When I had my second son, we gave him Leslie as a middle name. I wanted to pass it back to the male side of the family. I like that Leslie is not a common name." Oct. 24, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "It's my name also...and I happen to like it. No one's ever teased me about it. My name is spelled Leslie, not Lesley. I've heard Lesley is the female version of my name but I'm not sure if I like it (I was given the "male" version of the name even though I'm a female). Most people pronounce my name with a z but it doesn't matter to me how you pronounce it. I like the fact that it's unisex and not a very frilly or common girls name. I also like the fact that it has some history and meaning to it. Anyhow, all in all, I'm pleased with my name, I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. :D" Jun. 9, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name, which has been in my family for centuries, but if you wish to name a girl by this name do her a favour and spell it the feminine way, which is "Lesley." The only time I get made fun of is when I travel and children merrily announce to me in countries all over western and eastern Europe that I spell it the boy way. I also feel like people are grating their fingernails down a blackboard when they address me as "LeZZZZlie," so it's probably not a good choice if high blood pressure runs in your family." • "This is my name! I am 26.. I to went through some name calling when going through school... but I learned quickly to let it go. Kids will be kids after all. But now I love my name. My name is pronounced wrong a lot... but that's because people say Lezlie instead of Lesssslie. However, the name can very from person to person. I am known to my family and friends as "Les". I've always liked that!" Aug. 7, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie and I pronounce it "Less-lie". I haven't met many of "me's" and I don't know any Leslies right now. I think the most creative nickname for me was "more-bruce"...you see? Less Lee? More Bruce? Bruce Lee? Anyway..." Oct. 25, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie, and I'm female, and grew up in a British schooling system. In the 'British 'world', the female spelling ins Lesley, so needless to say i was not only "lezbo', I also had a boy's name. That said, it's a fairly uncommon name -and I love it. I pronounce it "Lezz-lie" and cringe when I hear it pronounced "Less-lie". Interersting how people have different preferences! :)" May. 26, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "I'm a Leslie born in 1947. I used to think it was just a guys' name, but changed my mind as I got older. It is unique and not that many around. Like some of the other comments, I get called Lezz-lie and not Les-lie. My grandkids call me Grandma Les-lee; they really stress the Les part. Love that!" May. 7, 2008: Report as inappropriate

As I was growing up the kids would call me lesbo or LEZZli i hated it. i always wanted to change my name but as got older and those kids became mature no one ever said anything like that. i've realized i got a cute name. Also i oly know a couple people with my name," Mar. 21, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "This is my name, and I like it a lot. The only downside is that I hardly ever encounter someone who pronounces it right on the first try. Or even after I correct them, they don't. The correct way to say it is "Less-lee" and people pronounce it "Lezz-lee". Drives me insane, it does. I have only met a handful of people who share my name. I <3 it. :)" Sep. 27, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "It's my name. I was born in 1959 and have met a very few Leslies, mostly born the same year as I. I don't know why there are not more, it is an easy name to wear. Some people pronounce it Lezli, and it is a little easier to pronounce it that way, but I'm called Les by family. One little girl, born around 1991, didn't like it as her name. Perhaps it sounds old-fashioned now. (sigh)" Sep. 21, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am called Lesley and always and still do hate my name. I suffered at school and sometimes still at work with people saying lesbe, lezzy ... Etc they think it's funny. The only reason I haven't changed my name is because my parents would be upset." Jun. 9, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1950 and named Leslie after my uncle. I pronounce my name as he did with an S not a Z I think S is the way it was meant to be pronounced. Probably the Z sound started when drunk Scotts couldn?t pronounce the S correctly. Lol. Z grates on me too. If you want to pronounce it with a z why not spell it that way?" Jul. 3, 2021: Report as inappropriate

  • "I like the name. My parents names me Leslie to be pronounced with a "z" sound so I detest the "s" pronunciation. It sounds like a hissing snake. People usually use the z sound and I like It. I will correct them politely (Female- USA)" May. 13, 2021: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is the various spelling, so it?s ?Lesly?. As a kid, I didn?t mind my name and thought it was cool mainly because I saw no one else have my name. Now, growing up, I?ve come to disliking it. I don?t like the sound of it, nor do I like how it looks. It?s become too common and just overall ugly for me." Nov. 17, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "i like my name because i found out that there is a murderer also named leslie and i just think that pretty cool (:" Oct. 3, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "My brothers always called me Les so they could call me hope-less, care-less,mind-less,list-less etc. I also absolutely hate Lezzzzlie. It has an s in it, people, not a z!" Sep. 19, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "my mom gave me the name leslie when I was born and I have no Idea why. sometimes I think my name sound pretty for a quick second then think its the ugliest name on earth. There are so much more prettier names out there but for some reason "leslie" stood out from the rest to her I guess. I only known 2 girls named leslie but for some reason it sounds better on them than on me. when I met new people I pronounce it "less-lee" but if they say "lezz-lee" I don't mind it.i hope I learn to like it more later on in life but as for right now its just blah nothing cute or special about it." Jan. 2, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie (Less-lee) and I was born in 1979. My family and friends call me Les (less) and while some have told me they thought it sounded negative, I always liked it. People seem to really pronounce the 's' sound which makes it sound more feminine. I currently only know one other woman with my name. No men. Despite those middle school nicknames, I've always loved my name! As someone else mentioned, I was named after Lesley on General Hospital - only my mom spelled it wrong!" Nov. 17, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name, too. I didn't realize that other Leslies hated the Lezzlee pronunciation like I do. Sometimes even my husband slips and mispronounces it, and it feels like chills going up my spine. Funny." Apr. 24, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie and I like it pronounced wit an "s" not a "z" sound. I am now 18 years old and i dont hear it often but i do hear it on occassion. There is another girl in my graduating class with that name one a year older and i also know i little girl named Leslie. I occassionally run on to more and more people named this. I got teased a little bit in junior high like "lezby" or stuff like that but I mostly laughed it off. I don't get teased any more. Although i'm not in love with my name, I think it's alright. I like it better than a lot of names! I do think the "L" sound is so pretty. I love the name Lacey and London and Leah and hope to have daughters with those names." Jan. 2, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I never liked my name being Lesley although I never hated it. I know that I dont like that it sounds sort of masculine and serious while I am very elegant and noone wants to be serious. It sounds masculin because of the forced way you have to say it- the two "L"s so close together isnt smooth or very easy to roll off the tongue. Also most people with the name are older so naturally more serious so its hard not to associate it. I have to give it some credit though because it is sort of cute or unique, almost weird or awkward though.... I do believe it is the person that makes the name... Names do carry a stigma with them so its hard not to associate a name with someone youve seen or known with it, but you have to figure our what your name means when it is associated with ONLY you and noone else." Apr. 2, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "my name is Leslie and s you see it is spelled l-e-s-l-i-e. My parents say it Lelie without the s which bugs me. My mom says its pronounced Leslie, but my dad likes making me mad so that is why." Feb. 22, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Leslie with an 'ssss' sound... I don't particularly mind when someone pronounces it with a 'zz' but I definately prefer the 'ssss' sound... actually my friend intentionally says 'lezlie' when she wants to annoy me, so maybe thats why. I actually think this name is sort of old fashioned, as I am only in high school, but I guess its sort of coming back... I don't love my name but I don't hate it either, and apparantly my parents thought it was beautiful, so. My friends often call me 'Les' for short, but I have never gotton made fun of for my name. I have to say though, anyone I have met with my name is much older. At least it's original!" Jun. 2, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "It's my name. I was born in 1984, as others have said i hated my name during those school years....I like i now but you must say it lessslee, i also hate being called "les" sounds more like a guy than girl to me. I'm the only Leslie to graduate from my high school to date i don't know any others with my name and i think its kinda unique in my area...I was named after Dr. Leslie Weber on general Hospital...kinda fitting i'm now in med school!!" May. 27, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My girlfriend's name is Leslie. She named her daughter Lesley Rayne Shottes. I like the name, I guess." Nov. 10, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "Now that I am older I have a better respect for my name - though I would hardly wish it on anyone else, during school years though, kids were merciless. My family pronounces it Less-Lee but I prefer Lezz-Lee ... go figure" Aug. 3, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "I heard people pronounce the name both Leslie and Lezlie. I correct people if they pronounce that name with a Z. I know a para educator at my school named Leslie, and she always looks out for me. I'd ridden with a few people named Leslie, and they drove the speed limit. I found out that it was popular from the fifties until the eighties in the United States. I also heard of a speaker used in Hammond organs that is called the Leslie speaker. But that was named after Donald Leslie. But anyway, the para educator that I know was born in 1964. The yungest Leslie that I knew was born in 1970. I know her back in 2002. It seems like people with that name are curteous and sweet. That is one of my favorite names, that everytime when we drive on a street called Leslie avenue going toard my school, I think about the person's name and the para educator named Leslie." • "My name is Leslie. I was born in 1957. I too went through the period of being called ugly names in school but like others said, as we mature that changes. I only disliked my name during those rough years. Being of Scottish decent it is a fitting name." May. 8, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "this is my fisrt name i was named after my grandma whose name was Lessie. it is a family tradition to name 1 child per generation with "LES" being apart of it. so its my turn to name my daughter Lesia or Lesaya or something i got time to think about it im only 20. but i dont go by this name only at one of my jobs and at college until i corect the teacher and they say my other name. Leslie Kristen is my name and i love it! and the best things is im African american....THANKS MAMA!!" Jan. 14, 2007: Report as inappropriate
