"Hey guys, Kizzy here from the UK. I am half Romany Gypsy from my maternal side. I was born in 1986 and I have grown to love my name. I always receive compliments, get asked if it's short for anything, get told they or a friend had a pet called Kizzy - it's a conversation starter, because let's face it, meeting new people and holding a conversation can sometime be hard. My name always gives me something to talk about. I get the usual spelling mistakes...Kissy, Kitty or even Lizzy. I fully accept that I won't find my name on a coca cola bottle and I'm ok with that =) 'ROOTS' has been cited as the main reason for calling me Kizzy, although it is also supposed to be a gypsy herb." "My nickname has been Kizzy since 1981 - 35 years now! I adore the name and most people who hear it for the first time are enchanted by it. It's quirky and strong and fun. Those who know me best call me Kizzy or Kiz, rather than my given name. As some others have noted, occasionally people mis-hear it as "Kissy," (which I find amusing). Fun to find so many other Kizzys here. Love to all my sisters!" Jun. 2, 2016:
"My name is Kizzie. My mom got it from the movie Roots...Just spelled with the "ie". Growing up people never picked at it until I got older (I'm 37) and moved to the southern half of the US. Then I got flooded with questions of: Is it short for anything? How do you pronounce it? (how does it look? it's not hard) And my favorite question of all: Is your name from the Movie Color Purple? Its my favorite movie. I'm like look it must not be a favorite as you say because you don't know the characters names." May. 14, 2016:

My mum heard the name off roots I think but didn't name me because of the character, just because she loves the name.
Kizzy also means cinnamon.

"My name is Kisi, and I am also a 1977 baby. Born and raised in London - UK. Mine is spelt a little differenet - again my Dad wanted my to be even more different. Like many of you, I struggled with my name when I was younger. I got the Roots Box set for my 21st Birthday - and I cried my eyes out. Our name is powerful, inspiring and carries hope. I personally know at least 5 other Kizzy (or however you spell yours), So hold your heads high girls, we are very special indeed!!!" Nov. 29, 2010:
"I am a kizzy also, My father loved the book "ROOTS" and decided to name his first born. The meaning he told me was the deciding factor. Family is number one to him and Kizzy means "Stay put/ stay close" to your loved ones. I love my name and would never change it in the world. Thank you Daddy! Ps. I am from Trinidad WI" Sep. 1, 2010:
"My name is Kizzy! I have met TWO other Kizzy's and i found it really funny because i was so surprised! I used to hate my name when i was growing up because i was young and wanted to be like everyone else. I am now 19 and I LOVE MY NAME! I have had many narrow minded people telling me that they think it's a ridiculous name and it's not a real name and i alllways get people saying 'my auntie has a dog/cat/horse/pet named Kizzy' and that gets a little annoying! I used to get really upset about my name especially if people would make fun of it but now i really dont care if people dont like it because usually the people that do have boring names and boring lives and are usually pretty boring themselves! I think Kizzy is a name that grows on you...its brilliant!" Aug. 22, 2010:
"Hello My name is Kizzy, as well and no, it is not a nick name I too was born in Georgia, in 1978 and my mother loved the story "ROOTS" although I can't finish reading the book. I am Afro American but comes from a whole line of stuff. I love my mother naming me Kizzy, there was no other name that would have fit me. For one it's means stay put something I still can't seem to do and I'm 31 it also means cinnamon. I have to say that I have come across a few people named Kizzy, and have come to find that most use it as a nickname however, I did meet someone with the same first and last name as me and all I could say is wow! In school I got called everything from Kizzei, Kissiefur, kissme, and all the boys used to make kissing noises every time I walked by. It didn't bother much but the only thing that does bother me is when people spell my name wrong it is a five letter name come on people how do you mess that up? For all the people that are named Kizzy, be proud of who you are because I so hate that I didn't name my first born Kizzy." Jun. 2, 2010:
"HELLO! My name is KIZZI also pronounced kizzie, kizzy, I was born in APR. 1977 (IA). And it was because of the movie roots! I love my mother for nameing me that( She splelled it that way for a reason she still wanted me 2 be different) ! It is different/ unique name and you have 2 say it more than once! That is what makes us differnt than the rest!So happy 2 see there are more of US ALL OVER THE WORLD!! I LOVE MY NAME!" May. 16, 2010:
"I love the name Kizzy from reading Roots, although it does make me tear up a little knowing what happens in the story. I think it's a great name for any color baby, and it's even more awesome if a white mother named her baby that for Alex Haley's book." Apr. 7, 2010:
"Hello all~my name is Kizzy and I was born in 1978 and I am Hispanic. I love my name. It's who I am. I've only known one other Kizzy and she graduated high school the same year as me. I've never had anyone take offense to it and why should they? It's my name!" Mar. 17, 2010:
"I want to name my daughter Kizzy. It was my great-great-grandmother's name and my husband's grandmother's name. But, we are white, and after reading that comment that some black people take offense to a white person named Kizzy, I wonder if people will say mean things to my daughter? Advice?" Mar. 9, 2010:

"I have loved the name Kizzy since I was a little girl after watching a 70's programme called 'Kizzy' about a gypsy girl. 29 years later I named my baby girl Kizzy, she is now 3 and has started school, nearly everyday we get a comment about her name and it is all positive, people just seem to love the name." "Hi, my name is not Kizzy but i am grown to love the name so much that i am naming my first daughter Kizzy, to be born in March 2010. I am sure, she, too, will grow to appreciate her name. Yes, I got it from Roots! I fell in love with the character. By the way are there any Japanese American Haitian Kizzy out there?" Dec. 10, 2009:
"My name is Kizzy and I love it! I am of mixed race; my Father is French Canadian and my Mother is West Indian. I was born in 1977 and reside in Quebec. My father fell in love with the name after both reading and watching the mini series Roots (author Alex Haley... book came out in 1976). Usually people think it's short for something or a nickname. When I was a kid I always wanted to be called Kiz cuz I thought it to be cooler and more 'in' but actually forgetting that entirely for a while, friends ended up calling me Kiz in High School and especially in University and at present (everyone from my Mother to my Boss at work). Perhaps its because Kiz sounds more mature then Kizzy? People always say 'Kizzy, what a cute name!'. I was the only Kizzy in my Elementary School and in High School but met other Kizzy's in College which was pretty awesome. Once I was invited to a wedding and my boyfriend at the time couldn't attend, he really missed out because when it came time to eat he would have been sintng between two Kizzy's (myself, and another invite) at the table ... when does that ever happen! :). I do love my name, it can a great ice breaker sometimes when meeting people. I have a friend who affectionately calls me Busy ... which is fitting since I usually am. I've been mistakenly called Ziggy and Izzy oh and of course Kissy lol" Sep. 15, 2009:
"HI MY NAME IS KIZZY ALSO,BUT MINE IS SHORT FOR KIZZYANN,I WAS BORN IN 1986 AND WAS TOLD MY GRANDMA NAMED ME....TO BE HONEST I NEVER HATED MY NAME ,BUT I DIDN'T REALLY LIKE IT....SOME PEOPLE COULDN'T PRONOUNCE IT.....A LOT OF FAMILY MEMBERS CALLED ME KIZZY KIZ........NOW IM 23 AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY NAME..........." May. 26, 2009:
"OMD my names kizzy too! :D but im only 14 =] most people compliment my names and a few of my friends have said there jelous of it :D

"Seems like i'm one of younger Kizzy's around here. I was born in 1984 and am also named from Roots. Odd thing: i'm a white girl from Kentucky, grew up in Detroit... So i get everything you all are saying plus some. I have bend asked on many occations if i'm Arabic (it's a very common Arabic last name). I have been told that because it's an African American name that i do not deserve to carry it. I LOVE my name. I am PROUD of my name. I always get positive feedback, and i get very irritated when people take my name (our name) and use it as a nick name. Kizzy is KIZZY. It's not short for anything.. Upsets me when people try to be 'different' with a name that isn't even theirs. I give my name a thumbs up and am proud of my name." Feb. 2, 2009:
"oh goodness...where do i begin? my name is KIZZY and i have to tell you, growing up i hated my name but now i just learn to deal with it. i like it more and more though. i was born in 1977 & my parents got the name from ROOTS. i work in a hospital now so imagine the amount of people in a days time that ask me "is kizzy your REAL name??" or "what kind of name is THAT?!" sometimes i get asked so much about my name i just take my name badge off! lol but all in all i like it cuz its unique ;)" Jan. 10, 2009:

"We have a cat named "Kizzy" and we want everyone to know we love her dearly... She is a calico about 8 pounds. My wife and I unfortunately are going to have to put her down. Although only 7 years of age has become quite for the last couple of days. It's so hard when an amimal can't communicate their pain to you. You have to speak on the animal's behalf... The angels of all animals will have a wonderful addition and I hope that our paths cross again. We love our momma's girl!
Lenny and Brynn" Dec. 14, 2008:

"I have been Kizzy for 21 years, and have loved every minute of it, well just. I tend to get Twizzy, Kissy and am always asked if it is short for Kezia, which it is not. An often line for the boys is Kizzy Wizzy lets get busy, which is getting very old. I think it is a unique name, for someone as far as I'm aware of being fun, full of life, caring and has a great deal of respect for her friends and family! Kizzy is also the name of a famous Labrador on the pedigree chum advert who wears a pink bow, which is my favourite colour!xkx" Nov. 11, 2006:
"I have only met one other person with the name Kizzy, I was given the name Kizzy from roots and people have a hard time saying it right and spelling it right. and no one ever believes its my real name. Hey it is a fun name, and it keeps people gussing if your being for real." Aug. 29, 2006:

"When I introduce myself to people, they usually say it differently for example 'Kissy'!!! So i usually have to say 'Kizzy, it rhymes with dizzy' anyway, i guess people don't really call me that anymore, which is good. The reason my mum called me Kizzy was because she wanted me to have a unique name which it surely is 'cause i've never met anyone called kizzy!
I also heard that Kizzy means the root off an African tree!" Apr. 25, 2006:
"I really love this name. I loved it when I first heard it on "Roots." Last year I found this precious little dog up for adoption. I searched for just the right name for her and when I came across the name Kizzy again, it was a perfect name for her. According to some sources it means Cinnamon. I've also seen the meaning to be "stay put."
My little Kizzy is a cinnamon color. She was a "slave" in a puppy mill all of her life (approx. seven years), and I want her to "stay put" right where she is, with me! The name fits her just right and I couldn't think of a name that fits her more perfectly. It's an adorable name that anyone should love having. Don't let the fact that I named my dog Kizzy put you off either. I love my little dog soooooo much. Kizzy just makes me think of a darling curly headed doll, human or not!!" Apr. 23, 2006:

"I've been a Kizzy for 28 years now. It's a unique name and that is why I love it. I too was named after the baby in Roots. I believe people don't like names and/or things that are different so at times I feel like people can't handle the name, but I just think to myself I don't want to be like everyone else. Its defintely a conservation starter. I've also met people who love the name because it's different and it sound pretty." Mar. 2, 2006:
"I haven't known many people with my name. It is spelled K-i-z-z-y! :) I usually get dumb comments like "Is that your real name?" "What is that short for?" My parents got my name from the movie "Roots" and it has made my life fun and interesting. :)" Aug. 4, 2005:

"I named my daughter Kizzy; she's 18 months now and I hope she loves her name. We're from the UK. Are most Kizzy's black? I chose her name because I read a book in the 70's with Kizzy as the main character. She was a gypsy girl and I liked her attitude. Some people (usually older) call her Kissy; some people say 'what's that short for?' and some call her Kiz." Jan. 20, 2010:
"Growing up, I had a dog named Kizzy. She was born around 1977 or 78 so I'm assuming the person who named her got it from "Roots." I always liked the name on her and thought it was very cute. Although I probably like it better on a pet than a person, it has a very special meaning for me and I still smile inside everytime I hear it." Oct. 16, 2009:
