"My name is Jean, my middle name is Margaret after my Mother. Born in 1947, it was even then not a common name, though I had a friend called Jean in secondary school, known by everyone as Beanie. I often get called Jane, after introducing myself as Jean & have to spell it out for younger generations who often want to spell it Gene, or Jane. Pronounce it as Jeen, rhymes with bean, seen or keen. The biggest long standing ?joke? is when people greet me with Hi Jean, then proceed to laugh & say that sounds like a disinfectant. It amuses some folk anyway." Jun. 1, 2020:
"My name is also Jean Marie...very popular combination! I was born in 1962." Nov. 10, 2019:
"My name is Jean Marie and I like it. There?s room for nicknames -?Jeani,?. ?Jeani Marie? too! Yes, a few people have misspelled my name and then I just added to ?jean?..?as in ?blue jeans??. If they misspell it ?-so be it:))" Apr. 16, 2019:
"I has a nice ring to it so many people remember my name because it's a name you don't hear much now days. It isn't too feminine nor masculine which I'm very fond of. I've always like unisex names so I'm very fond of my own name. People also created a cute nickname for me which is Jeanie. I get many compliments regarding my name :)" Nov. 27, 2018:
"I'm a 90 year old Jean and never had a problem with the name." Apr. 22, 2018:
"My name is Jean Marie, named after my mom's favorite aunt. I am called Jean and Jeanie (which I prefer), but I will answer to both. My family calls me Jean and all my friends and most of my co-workers call me Jeanie. I was born in 1965 and went to school with two other girls named Jeanne, but no one spelled it my way." May. 11, 2016:
"I was given the first name Jean because my mother was proud of her Scottish heritage. I was born in 1958, and even then it was not a popular name. I've known few women my age with the same name. I like it better than the French version -- Jeanne -- because how do you pronounce that? Some say it like Jean and some like Jeanie. I like that my name is straight forward and uncommon." Apr. 15, 2015:
"My name is Jean and I was born in 1974. Being from Oklahoma, I always went by my first and middle names- Jean Ann. (Wasn't quite as plain). Growing up, I got a lot of comments about Jean being someone's grandma's name. Didn't know anyone around my age named Jean. As it goes I happened to marry someone with the last name Been (pronounced Bean) so therefore my name rhymes "Jean Been". The only good thing is that it is VERY easy to remember. We have lasted 22 years so I guess it wasn't a bad omen. Also, I have stuck with "Jean Ann" so it doesn't rhyme so much." Jun. 29, 2014:
"When I was little i hated being called Jean as it was only a name for grandmothers (i was named after mine) but when i went to high school and realised i was the only Jean in nearly 2000 people i learnt to appreciate it, now i love it!! Its original for a 23 year old to be called Jean, there's not many of me about!!" Mar. 9, 2011:
"My middle name is Jean, however its not pronounced like most would. My Dad is Jean-Paul, the french spelling of John, so I pronounce it like John (gahn). So my full name is Tanya (Tahn-ya)Jean." Sep. 20, 2009:
"My daughters middle name is Jean. After a lot of people in the family. Her Great Grandmother is Jean, then her Grandmother is Claudia Jean, her other Grandmother is Jeanne and it is part of my name Lajeana. So after a family name." Nov. 20, 2008:
"My mom's name is Jean, but she stuck on the 'ne' for flair. We always have messed up letters saying gene or jeanette or jen or something weird." Oct. 14, 2008:
"I am a Jean, born in 1958, named after two other Jeans in my mother's family. I have always liked my name because of these two women and as a child I was "Jeannie" or "JeanBean". I like the fact that Jean is not a common or overused name, but I hope it doesn't disappear altogether." May. 7, 2008:
"I'm asked once in a while if Jean is my real name or just a nickname, I always tell them, "that's what's on my birth certificate". I enjoy my name, and I'm not what you would call old, I was born in 1972." May. 7, 2008:
"I didn't like Jean when I was young (then again, many people want different names when they're young) but now I love it. I'm a young Jean (27) compared to any others I've met, who are usually over 40. I think it sounds nice, it's easy, and it's original these days." Feb. 10, 2007:
"I'm quite a young Jean (21)When people speak to me on the phone and then meet me they expect me to be a lot older. I love my name, its unusual for my age and not very people in my peer group have it! Plus I'm named after my nan, whom I never met but she was ace! :)" Sep. 29, 2006:
"People always spell the name as Gene or Gean..what's wrong with Jean and I do go by Jeannie. I was born in the 1940's. so an old fashioned name!!" Jan. 26, 2006:
"People tend to spell it wrong - they tend to spell it "Gene"." May. 25, 2005:

"I was named after my Mum & Nan. I was born in 1968 & always felt like I had an 80 year olds name. I'm now 51 & appreciate that I was the only Jean all through my school years, whereas now their are lots of Olivia's, Jack's, Harry's etc in one classroom." Jan. 26, 2020:
"My middle name is Jean and I do not care for it. I particularly dislike when it is combined with an old-fashioned first name and both are used together, ex. Norma Jean, no wonder a certain actress changed her name! It's grating to hear people pronounce it with an exaggerated eeeeeeeee sound. It was also way overused for many years. I knew about a dozen other girls in elementary school who shared this same middle moniker along with me. I almost replaced it with my maiden name when I got married, but thought it would hurt my parent's feelings, so I guess I am stuck with it." Oct. 5, 2015:

"My daughter is Jean-Marie, named after my mom, who has Scot ancestry. She is one year old, and the only baby Jean I have met. I like that it is traditional, but also relatively seldom used." Nov. 27, 2018:
"It is hard because no one can spell it . They always put Gene on take out orders . Don't know any one games Jean" Feb. 28, 2017:
"I am Jeanne Marie. I love my name. It might be old fashioned but not to me." Dec. 31, 2014:
"My name is Jeanne, dislike it. It's a very boring and forgettable name. I started the nickname Jaye, which people think is unique and pretty. Some friends started calling me Jaysie, which I love!!" Nov. 19, 2014:
"I like my name Jeanne which is French. I have a friend I've known for 30 yrs. and she still spells my name wrong with an "i"
in it! I had one high school teacher that called me Janette the entire semster! How do you get that out of Jeanne? I like my name very much, but most of the time I just say Jean on the phone so they can spell it. Most people still don't have a clue, but I guess what I mind is that you correct them
and they still just keep on spelling it wrong!" May. 26, 2011:
"My name is Sarah Jean and I love it :)
I was always called Sarah Jean the Jellybean !" Jan. 15, 2010:
"Jean is my middle name, I recently met a woman with Jean as her first name (older than me by quite a bit). I've always really liked it, and when I learned about Jean Grey in the X-Men, I liked it even more. It's on my potential baby name list." Aug. 17, 2009:
"My one and only christian name is Jean. Always disliked it, always wanted something with a bit more oomph. When I first went to school my mother walked with the mother of another girl in my class also called Jean and I was made to hold hands with her. Her hand was squashy, as if it had no bones. We moved house before too long and have no knowledge of this girl since. However, I do have both the dislike of my name and a horror of shaking hands with anyone without a firm grip!" Jul. 8, 2009:
"I'm another younger Jean (25) and I've always loved how unique it is. It does rhyme with a LOT of words so there are plenty of nicknames, but I think it's fun. I do often have to repeat it when I introduce myself and it's often spelled wrong on coffee cups. But, it's an uncommon name so I understand. I think it sounds spunky and sweet. :)" Sep. 22, 2008:
"My brothers always called me "Jean the Bean in her flying machine" as a child." Jul. 10, 2008:
"I was born in 1971 and my first name is Jean. In my lifetime, I have only met one other girl with the same name. I have met several men with the name Gene, however it was usually short for something else. It would seem that my name is unique." Dec. 21, 2007:
"Most people spell the name has a male name "Gene"." Aug. 8, 2005:
