"I'm 37 this year.My name is Jaylene, my parents told me I was named after a friend of theirs who died kind of young. For the majority of my life I have only met 2 other people named Jaylene with the exact same spelling. One women was older then me and the other younger. But most recently I have heard a lot of young little girls being named Jaylene. In the last 3 years I have met multiple toddlers with this name. I absolutely love my name. Only down side is growing up I never had personalized items cause they were never sold with my name on it but now these days you can personalize anything! I LOVE MY NAME and the spelling." "HAHAHA! So true, Feb. 10 2009 Jaylene. I'm 22 and I've never met another "Jalene" of ANY derivation (unless you count "Jolene"). My name is spelt without the "y", so any situation that involves someone reading it off a list goes something like one of the following: 1."...uh...Jah-LEN?...JAY-lyn?..." 2. "...Juh-lay-nay?...Juh-len-NEE?" 3. "Jillian?...Julienne? Jallien?" 4."...Janelle? Janine?" I can usually tell when my name is about to be butchered because the reader will pause and stare confusedly at the paper, eyes squinting to decipher its mysterious contents. Pronunciations also vary by language: French: jja-Lenn; Spanish: Hjhah-ley-nay; Dutch: Yah-ley-nay. I'm pretty sure less than five people have ever spelled it correctly on the first try.
I like my name, but I HATE the nickname "Jay". My mother went through a brief stage of writing "Lenie" in birthday/etc cards when I first went to college, but thankfully she fell out of that habit. So if anyone has any SUGGESTIONS...
p.s. People also regularly burst into that old Dolly Parton song..."Jolene..Jolene!...Joh-LENE! Joh-LeeEeeEEEN!!......"" Feb. 26, 2009:
"My first name is Jaylene. I can count the number of Jaylenes I've met on one hand and have fingers left over, and I'm nearly 30. People always misspell or mispronounce it. If I'm leaving a message for someone with another person via telephone it usually goes like this:
"...How do you spell that..."
L. O. L.
I love my name." Feb. 10, 2009:
