"My name is Janis. I was named after a folk singer in the 70s named Janis Ian. I like my name because it is different.. and I like that it is spelled Janis not Janice. It is annoying at times that people mispell it but that happens with a lot of names." Oct. 27, 2009:

"My name is Janice as I can't stand it when people write Janis. Most people when hearing my name write Janis which I find odd as Janice is 10X more common than Janis. Often I get orally Jan-niece, which is also annoying. Janet is a common mistake people make. I don't like Jan either. I love my name the way it is. I was born 1974, have a friend who is a few years younger than me with the same name and spelling, otherwise, other Janice's I've met seem to be older. I like that it is unique, it not weird or made up." Apr. 11, 2017:

"My name is Janis. I was born in '68. My mother liked the name with my middle name Lorraine. It was supposed to be my sister's name born in '61 but mom said it didn't fit her. So she saved it for me. Although, my parents and a brother called me Jan but I liked that less. Over the years I guess I've just accepted it. I used to never meet any other Janis's but over the last six months I've come across a ton more. I just learned that my grandfather's name was John and apparently my name is a feminine variation. I don't know that this name will ever be popular again but you never know." Feb. 1, 2020:
"I was named after a jazz and blues singer Janis Joplin I love my name but people tend to spell it wrong that's find but i i usually laugh it off and tell them how it's really spelled I honestly don't think I've known anyone with the name Janis when I was little and I haven't seen her sence i was very young and im pretty sure she spelled hers Janice but i love how unique the name and spelling is it matches my unique personality and My gym teacher was doing attendance and called me Julie it was so funny I thought it was weird when i was younger but over all its a cool name and if you have it don't be ashamed!" "I was named after Janis Joplin...I was born a few months after she died. I never particularly liked my name, but I like it better now than when I was younger. No one ever spells my name correctly!! My family typically calls me Jan." Feb. 27, 2009:
"I do like my name. My mother chose it after the actress Janis Paige--Patti's sister. I have to spell it for everyone, yet most people still continue to spell it "Janice". Until they know me quite well." Mar. 26, 2008:
"I got this name because it's my mom's maiden name. I like how its unique, but a lot of people misspell it." Sep. 27, 2006:
"People usually misspell my name Janice. I believe Janice is the more common spelling. I was always told that Janice should be pronounced 'Janeese', (rhyme with Denise. I have seen very few women who spell their names Janis. Most spell it Janice." Sep. 7, 2006:
