"My name is Jamila, but I pronounce it "Ha-mee-la" :) My parents wanted to take a little twist on it & it is actually a combination of their names. They actually found out years later that its an arabic word for beautiful which i love. It does get frustrating when people can't pronounce it correctly, especially since its pronounced with an H. But I love my name. :)" Feb. 6, 2018:
"My name is Jemelleh. A variation of Jamila. It is pronounced Juh-mel-uh, rhymes with Bella. Needless to say, none one can ever spell it correctly, but I find that people who are pretty good readers can pronounce it correctly the first time they see it. Lots of people call me Juh-mil-uh, and sometimes it feels like more work to correct them, so i don't. I always feel like a little bit of a jerk when I have to correct someone about my name, especially when I have to do it more than once. So sometimes, I don't correct them at all. I think I found one other person in the world that spells their name with all Es too. Other Jemelleh, I know you know the struggle!" Mar. 17, 2015:
"Jamila is my name and most people are not able to pronounce it, so I spell it for them. I even had business cards printed with the pronunciation. There were two other ladies with the same name in one dorm I lived in back in college. I'm very thanking for my dad naming me :-)" Nov. 12, 2009:
"jameelha is my name and a lot of people spell it wrong. it is pronounced almost the same as jamila. Often times i dont even tell people that it is my name because they mess it up. I just give them my middle name of aesha." Aug. 6, 2009:
"Jamila is my name and mostly people pronounce it wrong. They spell it ok but sometimes they put in 2 L's and get creative with it. I've met a few people with the same name and I'd say we actually got along when we were together.
I love my name and its meaning!" Mar. 21, 2006:

"Jamila Is My Name And I Thank My Dad Forgiving Me This Gorgeouse Name" Nov. 8, 2017:
"Yes my name is Jamila, the original name, pronounced Jah-mee-lah. It is the Arabic word used to describe a woman as beautiful. That's what it means- beautiful. Most people don't pronounce it properly and it doesn't help that so many people who aren't familiar with the original name have taken it and named their daughters all kinds of "versions" of the name based on how they think it should sound. I've met other Jamila who tell me their name rhymed with vanilla and they hate when people call them Jameelah. I guess that's what happens when people make up names based on sounds and not actual meaning. I know it's a parents right to name their child whatever they want. My parents gave us names with meaning and I've always known where my name comes from. I just think it's better to give a child a name with
meaning instead of something you think sounds cute
when you're creating a mispronunciation of a name that comes from a culture and has meaning. Just my two cents...to each his own." Jun. 1, 2015:
"See my names Jamilla two L's..i've always pronounced my name Jam-mil-a..leading to a nick name of milly, but i find it so interesting how many different varients of the name their are! The worst pronounciation of my name has been jamilia, which i get all the time and never understand seeing as its spelt differently! I've also never met anyone with the same name as me, i live in england, though i've had a collegue of mine tell me its very popular where she's from in indonesia.." Nov. 14, 2013:
"When I was younger I hated my name because it was so different but now I love I jus hate when people say it wrong! It's pronounced Ja-mee-la!" Apr. 8, 2011:
"My name is Jamila, and yes, no one can pronounce it correctly on the first try. It can even take weeks/months for them to get it. I'm told my name is very pretty constantly, but sometimes I get the feeling they're being condescending. The only people I've met with my name were my cousin (coincidence) and somr lady who worked at McDonald's." Mar. 29, 2008:
