"my name is iona and i really like it :) i do like longer names because that makes it easier to make nicknames out of it, but i love unique names and i've only met one other person named iona and she's a family friend i was sort of named after. it's pretty phonetic too so usually people can spell it right, except it does get confused with the name ayana a lot since they are pronounced similarly. suposedly it means purple jewel (don't quote me on that though i've just heard it before) and my favorite color is purple, as well as an island and road in ireland being called iona, and it's near where my father was born and a lot of my family lives, so i feel more connected there." "My name is iona and I?m from the first state (Delaware) USA and everyone pronounces my name (eye-oh-na) but it?s actually (eye-yon-a) i love my name I?ve only met 1 other person with my name" Jun. 21, 2018:
"Beautifully unique. Very popular in Scotland where it's a religious island on the west coast." Apr. 3, 2018:
"My name is Iona and I love it! None of my friends knows anyone else with the name Iona. Most of the time when I introduce myself to people, they always remark how beautiful my name is. The only downside is it is not common enough that people know how to pronounce it when they read it, but that's very common in my area and they never forget it after anyways :)" Sep. 2, 2015:
"Iona is a beautiful, spiritual island off the Scottish coast. I love the name." Oct. 10, 2006:

"My middle name is Iona but I go by it instead of my first. Named after a grandmother. I like my name and have only known one other person to have it. She did not go by it tho. There were comments asking what I owned but I always just told them I owned too much to tell. I only wish it had been my first name." May. 28, 2019:
"My name is Iona and I'very always been made fun of because of it. My parents like unique names but I really want to change mine..." May. 25, 2017:
"I am called Iona. I was born in Scotland, but I was named not because of the island but because it was a mix of my mums name - Fiona and my dads - Ian.
I don't like the name as I can never find anything personalised especially not in the States. Most people I meet love my name though, so thats good." Jul. 2, 2009:
"My middle's name is Iona - my Mum wanted it to be my first, but went instead with Caitlin (still unique in 1981 where I lived in Australia.) I've thought of using it as a first name, but I used to get teasing along the "sounds like 'I own a...' line - especially the Scottish "Iona Boat Song" (oh, I've got a boat too, ha ha) Some people also thought it was Fiona and I'd just left the F off. I've met a lot more Ionas playing for Highland Dancers (and a lot more Caitlins) so I hope it comes back into use!" Jan. 31, 2009:
