  • "My name is Gail. I was born in the 1970s. This means I was surrounded by Jennifers and Staceys. There were so many of them?the teacher would designate the first letter of their last name to help distinguish. Roll call was: ?Jennifer A., Jennifer W., Jennifer T.? I thought there was something wrong with me?no one shared my name. I didn?t realize the importance of having a rare name . This might be a reason why a trendy/popular name should not be chosen. I?ve known a total of two or three other Gails in my life. I now love that it is rare. When I met and married my husband, I noticed he said ?Gail? differently than anyone else. It isn?t that he pronounces wrong. But he says it with a love I?ve not heard before. So now, I see my name through his eyes?the name of the girl he loves and I wouldn?t trade this name for any other one." May. 22, 2021: Report as inappropriate

  • "I've always loved my name and didn't meet anyone else with it until I became an adult. It suits me just fine and no one ever has trouble pronouncing it!" May. 17, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "This is my name. People always say it correctly but often spell it wrong, I most frequently get "Gail" or "Gale". I usually have to spell my name out to make sure people get it right. I have only ever known one other person with the same name but she spelt it "Gail". It is a name that people have heard of but they are unlikely to know many, if any, other people with the same name. When I travel abroad, especially to France and Spain, I have found that my name is especially difficult for people there to pronounce. Native French speakers can't pronounce it properly at all!" • "I was actually name Gale but I wanted something a little more feminine so I changed it. I also dislike that name, doesn't sound pretty and its boring." Dec. 23, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "For some reason a lot of people over the past 15 years or so have called me CAYLEY! I really have no idea why but they do! I actually like that better because I don't care for one syllable names for women. I don't hate my name (it could be worse!) but I don't love it either." Jan. 17, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "I'am a Gail as well. I like my name. I was born in 1951 the year that the most babies were named Gail. I like the spelling of my name. People tend not to spell it like I do most of the time. I don't run across many Gail's even if they have a different spelling. I like that it's of Hebrew origin ." Mar. 30, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am a Gail. Born in 1957. Not many other Gail's out there. I actually hate the name. I think it sounds harsh. I don't like Gloria either. I always wanted a soft pretty name like Michelle or Arielle. And then I married a Fred... Gail and Fred,,, yuk..." Oct. 28, 2010: Report as inappropriate
