"My name is Dorothy-Lauren, named after my grandmother and grandfather, but I've always gone by Dottie. I've only ever met one other Dorothy my age and she went by Doro until she met me, then started going by Dotty. I always ask people to name three Dorothys under 70 and they always bring up Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, but I point out she'd be over 70 by now. It's a grandma name. Dottie is much better. I think of the famous baseball player. Here's an amusing story about my name. My husband worked in Ireland for a bit and one day I came to his office and he introduced me to his office mates. In Ireland they think dotty as in mad/crazy (a dotty old man), so they had a great laugh that I was introduced as his crazy wife. Since then I've gone by Lauren at work, but in my heart I'm still Dottie. It's a great story and all my close friends say I'm a little crazy, so Dottie fits." Dec. 8, 2018:
