"I am a Debra, born in 1956. (I have preferred going by Debbie.) There were always 5 or 6 Debra's (bie's, etc) in every class in school. While being occasionally confusing, it also gave me a feeling of inclusivity and a sense of some greater purpose. (Think, the Debbie Club!). As such, I have always been intrigued by the sudden rise in popularity of a given name, and and have wondered what impact, collectively, those people have made on society. (I have given my energies to love and compassionate understanding to make the world a better place.). Namaste" Aug. 16, 2018:
"My name is Debra and I'm fine with the name. I use Debra for legal documents and Deb or Debbie for casual or business memos. My mother calls me Debra when she's mad, but that's OK as long as it's not overdone.
I was born in 1958 and there were other Debbie's in my class, but each one was different. Deb has always been a good nickname...short and easy." Aug. 11, 2015:
"My name is Debra. I don't like to be called "Debbie" never let anyone call me by that. Too cutsey.
I use to work at a school and there are very few children with the name. As a child I was not crazy about it.. but now as an adult.. I love my name. I love the simple spelling the best. It feels solid and different at the same time. I don't meet many Debra's but when I hear the name in public I always take notice to look at the person to see if I can get a sense of what they are like. I also love hearing it on TV shows or movies.. LOL
but I love my name." May. 5, 2015:
"My Mom's name is Debra!!! She is always having trouble with the spelling and pronunciation of DEB OR AH!!!" Apr. 13, 2009:
"I didn't like my name gowning up. But now I love it. What I hate is when people spell my as Deborah. Debra is De-bra not Deb-or-ah or Deb-ov-ah (which I believe is the true Biblical spelling." Jul. 23, 2008:
"I have to rate it thumbs up, cus it's my name, plus it's a Bible character. Pitty I dont't hear it much since my parents have been calling me Debbie ever since I could hear :) SO anyway, Since Debbie isn't my real name, I figured I could spell it the way I wanted to, and so, it's now Debi. I insist on that spelling if someone is going to write the Debi version of my name. Unfortuanately, when I do hear Debra, it sounds foreign and takes me a second or two to recognize that that's me. That's pretty sad." Jan. 23, 2008:
"Great Name- it's stupid to associate the name with
someone who is not very nice." Aug. 25, 2007:
"My moomy's name is Debra and she's the best mom in the world and i know she is . Debra rocks." Jul. 22, 2007:
"I have the easiest way to spell Debra, but many people want to spell it with more letters. Also, there are a LOT of people my age with the same name." Dec. 26, 2005:

"I find it to be such a boring, age specific name. I don't feel it is a reflection of me at all. I was pretty indifferent to is when i was younger but definitely dislike it the older I get." Nov. 5, 2019:
"They instantly think you are old when you apply for a job" Jun. 14, 2018:
"It's my name. Grew up in the 1960s and about half of the girls in my class were called Debra or Susan or Sarah. Have always hated it. The boys used to call me De-bra due to my being busty later on. Horrible!" Jun. 24, 2016:
"I was born in 1958 and I hate my name. I go by Deb. Only my mom calls me "Debra" or "Debra Jo" when I'm in trouble with her. Any other time she calls be Debbie or Deb. When I was little, my brother called me "De Bra". That could have something to do with why I hate the name! Brothers!" Jul. 14, 2008:
"Being a product of the early 50s, the name was far too popular. I use to know at least 30 Debra/Debbie/Deborahs etc. all at once when I was in school. All a person had to do, was to yell Debbie and half of the girls in the school would turn around! My parents also recieved a letter that I had flunked out of a High School that I had never gone to! Teachers would get me mixed up with another Debra because I was seated alphabetically with 3 other Debra Ps., and I kept getting her bad grades in math! I couldn't even use my middle name because my mother went by that name. I go by Deb now. I am sick of hearing Debra. I guess, when I end up in the old age home, there will be at least 50 other Debras there." Apr. 18, 2008:
"I went to school with a Debra and she wasn't very nice." Jun. 22, 2007:
"My name is Debra... it is a name I wish I never had it is very old fastion for a 28 yr old girl... most people don't think I look like the name and I can say it is a very boring name!" Feb. 2, 2007:

"My name is Debra and I am ok with the name. I would have rather been named something less common for my time. I have never liked being called Debbie, but alas that is what I I have been to many people all my life. I detest people spelling my name as Deborah. Since Debra is my name, I am glad my mother chose the short spelling. I like it much better. I was always one of several classmates with the same name and yes it led to a lot of confusion in school." Jun. 18, 2019:
"I hate it. My name is Debbie (legally). It's on my birth certificate. Plain as day D E B B I E. But people insist on called me Debraor Deborah. I, of course, don't answer because it's not my name. After a few minutes I say oh were you trying to get my attention?" May. 23, 2019:
"I was born with the name Deborah.. However my family and classmates called me Debbie..I have always hated that name. As a 35 year old (now 51)I chose to go by Deborah. I too have people that dont even know me call me Debbie or Deb after I have said my name Deborah. It is very annoying , yet people act annoyed that I prefer Deborah !! Ugh!" Oct. 17, 2016:

"I love my name Deborah. In the bible, Deborah the Judge was a very fair and powerful woman and even led her own army. I would like to think I have some of her sense of fairness and managerial skills! Just PLEASE don't call me Debbie!!" Jan. 23, 2013:
"My birth name was deborah but since my mother had d same name,i was called debbie 2tell us apart,i never liked d name debbie,&ppo never pronouce deborah just as it souds or as its intended to sound like,"with a strong O &a strong AH," not a silent O& ending in A. Im not 4 common names &i dont like being name after an extremely mean mom wich is why i never took pride in my birth name &why i legally changed it to Cora. My only regret is not adding my H. This time bcus of its spelling, ppo are forced to sound out my beloved &long awaited strong sounding,"O & AH. Never the less, i shorten my name &still got what i wanted, the lovely sound of maturity. It's funny, the only way to have gotten rid of d awful belittle-ing sound of my nick name was to move far away from family, that's when i got to grow up. Once i returned it was an uncomfortable & unaccepting feeling placed upon them, irronically a taste of their own medicine. I tell them 2 refer 2me by my legal name but they still call me debbie,d immaturity stil there" Dec. 29, 2012:
"I was born in 1964 my name is Debra. When I introduce myself as Debra, most every time that person will come back and say hey "Debbie", I hate being called Debbie, I would have introduced myself as Debbie if I wanted to be called Debbie," Jun. 26, 2012:
"i was born in 1956 so im sure my mom named me debra because it was so popular .i like my name it has a nice sounding lilt to it." Dec. 7, 2011:

"Just like the comment below (Jul 14, 2008), I also go by Deb(was born in 1956). My mom calls me Debra Jo when I am in trouble. When I was younger, my brothers or boys at school also called me "De bra". I didn't really like the name because it was soooo common." Aug. 24, 2010:
"To the person who said that we should use the formal spelling...get over it...we don't choose what our parents name us....I love my name because my parents put a lot of thought in it.... and it means busy bee...which is very appropriate for me....." Mar. 2, 2010:
"Mine is Debra. There were 5 others in my grade who had the name and 4 of us who were friends in college so we had to come up with alternate names to identify who we were talking about. My only beef is when you introduce yourself as Debra and people ASSUME you are called Debby (and yeah, when I was little, it was with a y). I was Debby when I was 5. Not now. I wish people wouldn't assume that everyone who's name is Debra prefers to be called Debbie." Dec. 18, 2009:
"Too commen for me. I know a debra but she doesnt go by that name, she goes by a much more unique nick name" Mar. 19, 2008:
"My name is Debra and as a kid, I always got frustrated because I could never find a word to rhyme with it for my poems! LOL! Other than that, it's been pretty okay (not too formal, but still professional). I only knew 1 other Debra in my life who spelled it Debra and she was as beautiful as could be!" Nov. 7, 2007:
"My name is Debra and I have never really liked it. I know why it isn't very popular in 2000." Sep. 7, 2006:
