"My name is Dara and I was named it because it means star in Sanskrit. It is pronounced Dah-ruh and I hate it when people get it wrong and call me Dere-ah. I have never met another Dara before, but it makes me happy it is so unique. I also like that it means leader, wisdom, pearl and other amazing things in other languages." Mar. 12, 2021:
"I loved being the only Dara!! I was born in 1986 and come from southeastern US. I met one other Dara when I was 6, spelled the exact same way. It's always been mispornounced, but I have piffy reminders... "It's Dara, like I dare ya to forget it" :) Always brings a laugh. In middleschool, that MTV show Daria aired, which made for new "jokes" on the bus. But it built character and never too much!! I absolutely love my name and get tons of comliments everyday!!" "When I was growing up, I loved my name, but my sister would call me Dora just to annoy me. It wasn't really special, because my cousin had a cousin on her father's side with the same name. I also had cousins called Tara and Sarah, so our names made us close. People always comment about how unusual my name is, and I always tell them that I went to high school with two other girls named Dara." May. 25, 2010:
"My name is Dara, pronounced like D-ARE-ah. My friend is named Sara (S-ARE-ah) and we always get our names spelled and pronounced wrong. I have only met one other person who had the same exact name as me, including the pronounciation. Most Dara's I meet pronounce their names like D-air-a which makes me feel special cuz i'm very unique!" Feb. 7, 2009:
"I love my name, Dara, it is pronounced just like Sarah. When I tell people what my name is they always say wow, that is such a beautiful name and sometimes they ask if it is short for something. Which it is not. I am 28 and I must say MOSTLY I have been the only Dara I have ever know and definitely in the city that I live in. When I was younger people did mess up my name, but not so much as I was growing up and over time I really dont notice it now. I just always correct them the first time, that way they know right away and that usually works. Usually, what I get with the mistakes with my name is is pronouncing it like car in the beginning sound or Daria, Sarah, and other various things. BUT all of that said, I love my name, I have always loved having a name that no one else has, it really gave me a sense of uniqueness. If you are considering using this name, it is great for an off the beaten path name, that is unique, but not sooo weird or strange and it is just like Sarah or Tara, so it does still have a ring of familiarity without being one of the really popular names that rhyme with it." "I grew with this name and had it legally changed as an adult. Needless to say I found it unfavorable. I was tired of correcting mispronunciations and people thought it was weird especially in a sea of Jennifer's, Amy's and Heather's of the 70's it really stuck out and not in a good way. I'm glad to have changed my name to something more classical and easy to identify and pronounce." May. 29, 2013:

"Dara is a common BOYS name in Ireland. I know several boys with the name. It's a really old name derived from the saint Macdara. It has been especially popular over the last 20 years. I have heard of 1 girl called Dara though." Aug. 15, 2014:
"my name is spelled darah and pronounced like sarah. rarely do i get it pronounced right when it is first read. i get it spelled wrong also. i've had darrah, derah, garraah (don't ask) and several others. i've gotten every misspronunciation under the sun as well, so if it sounds even closse, i'll answer. i only knew one girl that i went to school with and we were good friends. it was pronuced the same way, but it didn't have an h at the end. we had the exact same initals too: dmw." "Hi my name is Darah... With an H. It is spelt like sarah yet people pronounce it D-are-ah but its sopposed to be D-air-ah... so yeah very annoying i don't really meet people with my name either" Aug. 17, 2007:
"Though my name is pronounced like Sara, most people pronounce it incorrectly when they first see it. I remember when I was little, I wanted a more common name because I could never find anything that was "personalized" for me. Now I like that I'm the only one because no one mixes me up with another.
Only once have I been in the same vicinity as another Dara and that was here at college. She graduated though and now I'm the only one again! I do like my name a lot though." Apr. 4, 2006:
