"I really like my name. It is unusual, but not weird. Some people call me Coal-een or Cuh-leen, but it is pronounced Call-een. I rarely encounter another Colleen, that it kinds of weirds me out when I do. My family & some friends use Call as a nickname." Mar. 7, 2019:
"I named my daughter Colleen Noelle. Pronounced like call-leen. She is now 13 years old and has never had another Colleen in her school. I love this name and I'm happy to see that so many of you appreciate it as well. I posted a photo of my beautiful Colleen.
Shannon" Jun. 26, 2015:

"Hey! My name is Colleen and I am 16. I always loved my name caz it represented my Irish heritage and I was the only other girl I knew with my name. But I have two neighbors with my name" Sep. 21, 2014:
"My name is Colleen Marie and I'm 56. I didn't like my name as a child because there were no others with my name. Now I like it because I know when it's called, they are looking for me!! I pronounce my name Calleen. But I have some relatives that have pronouned it Culleen with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable. There are 3 or 4 other Colleen's at my office location. There were no others in my grade at school." Sep. 11, 2014:
"My sister, Colleen (call een) was born in the 40's. She only knew one other Colleen (long O) until she was an adult. She has now met a few others, mostly younger. I had the occasion to call a Colleen for my job. I found out there were 3 Colleen's working in the same office. What a surprise. Her middle name is Elizabeth and her name fits the beautiful woman she is." May. 1, 2014:

"My first name is Colleen and my mother calls me Col all the time, and my boyfriend calls me Leenie or more recently Bean (coming from Colleenie Beanie-- when I was younger). I am 23 years old and I hardly ever come across another Colleen. When I was younger I didn't like my name at all. My middle name is Sinead (shin-aid), so I have a very traditional Irish name. I am always curious to hear other Colleens' middle names. I feel that my name flows very well together!" Nov. 24, 2013:
"My name is Collenand I am a young 53 year old . I thinks name has differentiated me from others. I am sure it's helped me through life. I find people warm to me really easily." Nov. 1, 2013:
"My name is pronounced cAlleen. It's a northern thing. I named my third son Kolin. (It was Collin until my husband said no way heehee I tried :)" Oct. 2, 2013:
"Hi. I pronounce my name with a long 'O' sound. As a child I hated the name, now I love it. However, professionally and with my friends I answer to Cole. My husband and direct family members are the only ones who call me Colleen. I was born in the 70s. My father named me, he said it was becuase it was French in origin meaning hill. And actually calls me "Colleena". However, it has also been listed as Irish, meaning girl. Unfortunately, I do not have a middle name." Jul. 24, 2013:
"I love my name, very much. I'm 19 and I never realized how uncommon it was, even if people come across it every now and then, it is not apart of the normal names that people typically have. It's kind of an 'old soul' type of name, and I especially like the fact that it peaked during the 1960's since that is one of my favorite eras. It's beautiful and unique and has a warm quality to it." Jun. 8, 2013:
"Hey all the Colleens out there.....every day my juinor seminar class gets in an argument with the teacher about wether you pronounce it call een or coal een....i prefer call een :P" Mar. 19, 2013:
"My wife's name is Colleen. A few years ago, I was in a store and called down an isle, "Col!". A guy nearby asked, "What did you call her?!" I replied "Col for Colleen". He said he thought I called her "cow"! (All 120 lbs of her!)" Feb. 19, 2013:
"I named my daughter Colleen when she was born in 1997. I've only heard one person try to pronounce it "Coal-een" and I was never sure why. I liked the fact that I didn't know anyone at the time with the same name, but it wasn't so strange that no one would be able to say it." Oct. 16, 2012:
"Another Colleen here. Pronounced with a short o. Like call een. Never heard of thre pronunciation Coal-een here in Canada. I know many other Colleen's. Almost 10 others I would guess." Jul. 25, 2012:
"People call me Collin how do you get that form Colleen. I pronounce it like calleen. It's also my moms middle name. My mIddle name is Renee so it's Colleen Renee. People always call me coal-een it's really annoying. I'm 14 and I've never met anyone with the same name as me" Feb. 6, 2012:
"My Best friend since i was about 1,name is Colleen,Colleen Mackenzie. I love her name,it's so pretty, Mine is just Paige. her nick name is Colie." Dec. 12, 2010:
"Hiya my name is Colleen, well of course you all already know that ;)!!! if you want a nickname you could be nina or neen those are ones that i used to have!! i love my name since alot of people dont have it except right now there THREE girls in my grade that have my name, go figure :/ hahahahaha! i love my girls" Nov. 16, 2010:
"Hi! I'm a 48 year old Colleen. Long "O" please, but like several have said, I don't even hear the difference unless someone asks me how I pronounce it. What drives me nuts though is when people ask how to spell it and I tell them and they respond with, "Oh, you mean Calleen (short "O").....?" No people, I know how to pronounce my own name, thank you very much. As far as popularity, because I was born in the peak of our name, it was quite popular all through school, including college. I'm from Washington and know quite a few of us. We have 3 in my church of 250 people. I usually find my name on things. As to whether I like it or not, I have always loved my name. I learned the spiritual meaning of my name, "virtuous spirit" in Jr. High and have always tried to live up to that. Having a March 15 birthday is fun too...almost made St. Patricks Day..:). Oh nickname...Co, Colleenie Weenie, Keenie, Cleen, and from my sister...yes Sir Sidney...go figure. I still use Keenie. Thank you Mom & Dad for naming me an awesome name." Oct. 28, 2010:
"I'm 44 and apparently Colleen was in the top 100 baby names around the time I was born.
I pronounce my name Co-lleen although it seems like most everyone I know (especially those from south call me "cahl-leen" even after I correct them. I've met a few other Colleen's my age from Colorado and we are all Co-lleen with a long o. Dont know about these people who are saying Coal-lleen - what do they have a speech impediment?? I love my name and growing up , I only met 1 other person with my name. My baby name was CoCo and my family still calls me that as well as a few dear friends." Oct. 8, 2010:
"my daughter who just turned 3 june 20th has this name. we picked it because we wanted something that wasn't over used and wasnt herd a lot but wasnt weird. everyone loves her name, she was a baby sister AnnaLynne, and an older sister Kendall. colleen fits her name to a t and i wouldn't name her anything else." Jun. 28, 2010:
"Such a cute name!
My 7 year old sisters name is Colleen.
she's to cute

"my name is Colleen I'm 17 & my dad named me I find that most people can pronounce it but they can never spell it right Kolleen, Colen, Collen, Collen, almost always wrong I didn't like my name when I was younger cause I could never find things with my name on them & never meet anyone with my name & still to this day haven't but I love my name I'd never changed it." Apr. 16, 2010:
"my name is Colleen and i love my name! i used to hate it but that was because all of my friends had names like Alexis and Katie, but now im 14 and im really happy with it! usually people mispronounce it as Coaleen, but i usually just correct them. ive met a couple colleens. and also my nickname is coco, and people still call me that!" Jun. 12, 2009:
"Hi...I'm Colleen...I'm 29 and I've always really liked it...especially that it is unique. I work at an irish pub...go figure...and some people will even question that I'm making it up or that they make me tell people that its my name....ahhh...no people..you can call my mom if you want to!!! But I do love it and now that I live in the south I've become accustomed to the Coal-leen....which drives me nuts. And some of the irish guys at work have recently told me about the irish spelling...Cailin (with the lil 'fada' or accent over the 2nd I) which I thought was pretty cool...pronounced the correct way though (Colleen)...and I've also been told that no one in ireland is actually named Colleen...but I don't care...I still love it...thanks mom!!! <3" May. 25, 2009:
"Hello, My Name is Colleen and I am proud of it and one day I will have a son and name him Colin it a combination my name and my husbands!
I hope that all the Colleens' realize we are special and awesome" Apr. 15, 2009:
"I like my name, Colleen. I'm 29 and until recently never met another. I was born is California and my mother always pronounced my name Coalleen, but when I moved to Louisiana it became Calleen. I don't really mind either and frankly hardly notice anymore who calls me what. It is a very classic, timeless name." Dec. 9, 2008:
"I'm 29 and have grown to like my name Colleen. I didn't like having a unique name when I was young but now I do. I also hate the pronounciation Coal-leen. Yuck!" Jul. 21, 2008:
"I love my name! i know of two other Colleen near me..which is nice because i dont mind not having a common name, one reason is because i know many lauren's and ashley's, which are really common around my hometown. One other Colleen i know she pronounces it as cOlleen but my friends and family call me cAlleen.. i think its because of our maryland accents...i dont mind it." Feb. 21, 2008:
"I'm a 30 year old African-American female named Colleen, its also my mother's name. I like it, I've always felt unique. I live in TN and most people pronounce it 'Coal-leen',which I hate too. One time my mother corrected a woman who called her 'Coal-leen' and the woman told my mom she was mispronouncing her own name. Can you imagine that! What's really interesting is because I'm black, alot of people don't think the name fits my color. I've actually been in public places like a doctor's office and had my name called and when I stand up the person says, "Oh YOUR Colleen."" Jan. 19, 2008:
"This is my moms name, she doesn't like the meaning but the name its self is ok. However she (and everyone else in our family) pronounces it, as someone previously said, "coal-leen" and it bothers us when people say "call-leen"." Dec. 6, 2007:
"I used to dislike that my parents named me Colleen because I resented the American-Irish mentality, especially since it simply means "girl." I was also born in '80 when the name was on the decline, but it beats many of the alternatives of the time. But, I've grown to like it, especially because it's not unheard of nor is it common. It's works as a child's name and as adult's...I don't know if I'd go as far to say it's classy but it is quite simply, pretty and timeless." Jun. 22, 2007:
"I am 38 and have grown to love this name. I didn't think much about it either way growing up, but as noted repeatedly, it is not common, which is nice. It is unique in a classic, feminine way - not because it's weird or invented like so many baby names today. However, I am also a bit irritated by seeing it spelled with one "l" (it's in the dictionary for those who aren't sure), and by hearing it pronounced "coaleen", or worse yet, having it misheard and being called "Pauline" instead." May. 18, 2007:
"I like my name Colleen, since it isn't too common, although there arenýt really any obvious nicknames, so I end up with random ones like Momo, Bunni, and Pookie (go figure). There is one other girl at my school with the exact same name, and frankly, she's not one to be happy about sharing the name with ^^; (oh, and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast couldn't spell it right after 5 tries >.<)" Apr. 26, 2007:
"One of my friends name is Colleen And she loves it" Sep. 12, 2006:
"I'm 36 and my name is Colleen. I guess my parents were on the peak of the popularity scale at the time I was born, ha ha. I like the name, I haven't met many other Colleens, and it was nice to not have the same name as ten of my friends. I am surprised by how many people misspell it, though, and it also irritates me when people say "Coal-leen"." Aug. 30, 2006:
"Colleen is a beautiful name! It dates back to the 5th century in Ireland, it's great to be Irish." Aug. 27, 2006:
"My wife's name...it speaks of elegant sexy femeninity! Love Colleen!" Mar. 31, 2006:
"my name is colleen. and i am the only one in my school named colleen. i love it a lot" Mar. 16, 2006:
"I really like my name..it's uncommon not like Ashley where 4 people in your class have the same name. I've grown to it and whenever people here it they go "ah! she's irish!" and it's nice for people to know my heritage just by my name..although i agree no one can spell it right and i had a teacher once call me Coalleen drived me CRAZY! but i really like it" Mar. 14, 2006:
"my name is Colleen Elizabeth and i like my name. I hate when people call me coaleen >:[ and i hate when they spell it with one "l"" Feb. 19, 2006:
"I like having an uncommon name. Growing up I was the only Colleen around, although when I went to college there were 5 of us in one dorm! I HATE when people pronounce it "Coal-leen" though!!! ARGH!" Aug. 25, 2005:

"I hate my name! I wAs born in 72 and have encountered a few throughout school but nobody was too exciting that made it cool or anything. My parents &are lattices are from NY and pronounce Cah-leen in a sort of nasal way. I HATE the whole sound of it. We moved out to the western U.S. When I was 4 and EVERYONE says Coal een here. I don't like that name either, but sounds better than the nasal Easterner's pronunciation. I am the least unhappy with Cuh-LEEN and that is how I pronounce it when I have to say it. I would change it in a minute but my parents would Never adjust and would make me feel very awkward about changing it. When I was about 6-10 years old wanted my name to be Jill or Tina. Now I do not know what I'd want it to be. I was always mistakenly called Colette. I met my best friend in 7 th grade and she had never heard my name before in her life. She wrote me a note and sounded it out to 'Choline'. I still laugh about that. I realllly dislike it and wish I could just get over it at 44 :-/" Jun. 16, 2015:

"Iam of coarse Colleen, never really liked it as a kid because it was so different. I only knew of one other Colleen in my graduating class. Later on I learned Colleen meant girl, and that their weren?t many Coollens in Ireland. Naming your daughter Colleen was unheard of.
I am now 55 and planning a trip to Ireland and I see many Collins on a FB page doing the same as I." Jul. 6, 2020:
"My mother named me Colleen, Coaleen, choosing it after considering Collette and Corinna. My mother's name is Charlene, and my oldest daughter Corinne, pronounced Coreen. So we all had rhyming names. But most people pronounce my name Calleen. I get tired of correcting, but I don't even really hear it any more. I grew up with the nickname Koly, and some people shorten my name to Coll, or Call. I love my name, it's uniqueness. I came from a small town, and I only knew of one other Colleen most of my life. It is a beautiful name." Feb. 3, 2020:
"I am a Colleen..pronounced Call EEN..I do no nor have I ever responded to anyone that tried to shorten it ! Not a popular or CUTE name, in grade and high school I wanted one of the " Cute " names..Debbie, Patty,Cindy..NOW I love my Name and I am of Irish heritage., actually 3rd generation Irish. My son was born on St. Patrick's day. My middle name is Catherine which means PURE So, I am PURE GIRL !! and my Grand daughter's name is Kayleigh.., another Irish name !" Nov. 5, 2019:
"When asked how to spell my name I say co double l double e n I have friends also named Colleen that say it the same way." Oct. 16, 2018:
"My name is Colleen (short o sound) I?m almost 50 now and don?t mind my name but did not like it at all when I was a kid. I went to school with 1 other Colleen who was the same age, but other than that, I?ve never known another Colleen." May. 23, 2018:
"I'm a Cah-lean... but I will answer to Co-leen and it doesn't bother me. I like the fact that I am the only one I know, but I do think it's kind of dumb that it means "girl"- but there's that actress named "Madchen" and that's "girl" in German, so whatever. I also think it's hilarious that I am not Irish whatsoever. (I'm Jewish- Ashkenazi. Why not "Tovah" or "Hadassah"?) I was named after the first friend my mother made when she emigrated to the states, so I certainly can't hate on it. I don't get too many people mispronouncing it or spelling it wrong, thought I get called "Pauline" a lot. I have many nicknames, but only two pertaining to my given name. One is CoCo, which I destest, and the other is Colleen Ma (you know, like Kali Ma... "Kali Ma will rule the world.") and I rather like that one." Sep. 6, 2013:
"Hey I'm a Colleen (shocking!). We pronounce it like Calleen. That's pretty much how everyone around here in MD says it. It's a pretty common name. In my class of 130 people, there's 3 of us and I have a cousin with the same name. It's an okay name. I don't hate it but I don't love it. No one really calls me Colleen. It's either leenie, leens, coll, colls, or colly buns." Dec. 14, 2010:
"i am coleen and iam sooooooooooooooo hAPPY BCAZ MY NAME IS COLEEN" Dec. 12, 2010:
"i'm 19 and my name's Colleen. People can never spell it right! I used to hate it growing up but i've started to like it more now. My dad gave me the name -- Colleen Elizabeth.
I go by coll but somehow i've gotten cleen, colee, and of course my baby nickname was weenie :)" Nov. 7, 2010:
"Collleeeeeeennnnn rrrroooooxxxx! love the name!!! i feel special everyday to be blessed enough to have this sacred name! but i do not find it uncommon, there are at least 3 other girls in my grade at my school with the name colleen. and i know three others outside of my school." Feb. 8, 2010:
"it's okay. i'm 16, and it doesn't fit me. and it gets butchered a lot. i get called collin, colon, coalleen, calleen, collette, callette, pauline, coal lynn (i know, weird) and other things. my name is pretty common i think. well, not common exactly, but not very unique. colleen elizabeth. yeah. my parents are unique... but meh. not a huge fan..." Jan. 31, 2010:
"hi my name is colleen and I love it, I used to hate it wen I was younger coz no one else I ever met had the same name and also no one apart from my family could pronounce it properly, even now most people can't. I hate the whole coalleen, calleen thing too, it's a nightmare" Jan. 5, 2010:
"I don't really like my name Colleen but thats maybe because im still young hmmmm.." Sep. 16, 2008:
"I am 25 and I use to dislike my name back in high school, but now as a young adult, I love it ... its IRISH and uncommon, thanks Mom :)" Apr. 23, 2007:
"I love my name Colleen. But what i hate the most is when persons mispell my name as Coleen(with one l)...I know some Colleen are spelled that way but i hate it so much when my name is spell that way or when persons says Calleen, when it is Colleen..people its a 'o' there." Mar. 18, 2007:
"I'm Colleen Ann and I guess I've never really liked my name that much, maybe because it was uncommon. I was named in 1950. But now that I'm 56 I appreciate its uniqueness more. I had a mother-in-law who called me Coal-een for all her life. I got used to it, but hated it." Feb. 5, 2007:
"I have always loved my name Colleen. The only problem was last year I went to Scotland/Ireland and people were confused...they wondered why I would be so obviously named 'girl'. Apparenty no one is named that over there, it would be like naming a baby Girl here. Anyways, I still like it nonetheless!" Oct. 24, 2006:
"Well my name is Colleen, i like it ocasionally. i love it to think not many people are named it, but i think of all the other names i would rather be called. There isnt many nicknames to go with the name Colleen!" Jan. 7, 2006:
