"I named my now 7yr old daughter Colette in 2012. I have always received compliments on her name. I spelled it with one L, as I have seen it As a Last name spelled with two. I think the 1 L looks more appropriate for a 1st name. She loves her name as far as I can tell and she is always the only one with her name at school and in the community, so far; I?ve not heard of any others. Naming her younger sister was so hard, because me and her father love her name so much it was hard picking out another name as beautiful as her Big sister?s ❤️" Sep. 4, 2020:
"This is my name, I've had it for a long time. I have enjoyed the uniqueness of having a name that others do not. I've only met a few over my lifetime. I am an artist so the uniqueness is a bonus. People assume ..i'm french and speak french, silly as I'm neither. I spell it with one 'L'. It is interesting how others perceive me upon learning my name. Ultra feminine, classy, pretty, and respectful. Generally speaking, I've experienced instant acceptance particularly from men and a sort of up and down not so sure about you... from other women. A friend once said, after many years of friendship, that other women think the name is sexy so are initially put off a bit by it but then attribute the other qualities I mentioned above so overcoming the initial sexiness is brief. I am petite, long dark hair and resemble Madeline Stowe. I love my name and think if you'd like your daughter to grow up and think of herself as a unique individual then this would be a great name. I have a quiet strength, am confident and am reserved." Feb. 3, 2019:
"My name is Collette with 2 L I have always had to correct people when spelling and pronouncing my name I absolutely love my name." Oct. 15, 2018:
"My name is Colette.
The first part of my name, "Co" is pronounced like the first two letters of the word "cocoa". The second part of my name, "ette" is pronounced like the word "majorette".
I have met less than ten people over my lifetime who have the same name as me. However, online I have come across more people who also have my name and who spell it the way I do.
Some people do not realize there was a famous Parisian woman author named Colette. My parents knew nothing of this author when they named me." Apr. 22, 2018:
"My name is Colette spelt with 1 "L"! I also have had the spelling issue. I'm 41 now and have only met 1 other Colette ever. I absolutely love my name always have and always will." Jan. 17, 2017:
"It's my 3 week old daughters name. Already had the spelling issue haha! A name I have always loved and so did my wife when I suggested it. Everyone has said nice things about it and I love that it's quite unusual but not weird and not faddy." Mar. 2, 2015:
"I am also Colette with 1 'L' and constantly correcting people who usually spell it with 2! I always get people saying how nice my name is. Although it is a French name, I am actually Irish decent." Jan. 10, 2015:
"my name is colette and wen i say it people think i say clair i also have the 1 L probo lol im realli sporty and im england whhhhooooooooooooooooopppppp.,............." Aug. 8, 2008:
"There were a couple of girls at my high school with this name, however, as far as I'm aware, there was only me with the name spelled this way (with one 'L'). People mis-spell it all the time, which drives me crazy! I used to hate it when I was younger but it's grown on me over the years and I actually quite like it now. As long as people pronounce it with the 'T's as a lot don't and it sounds horrible when they don't!" Apr. 28, 2008:
"I've never known a Colette. I think it is a gorgeous name & am trying to convince my husband to think the same!" Jan. 22, 2008:
"I think it is a very pretty name. I'm surprised it is not more popular. The pronounciation is easy, it's friendly sounding and the speilling is nice looking. I hope it comes back!" Jul. 12, 2007:

"I?m Collette. Originally, my parents spelled my name with one L, but it was changed later. I didn?t appreciate the uniqueness of my name until I was in my twenties and a handsome man told me how beautiful and exotic my name was. I?ve only met two other Colette?s in my lifetime. I?m glad, I like being different and the reaction when I say my name over exaggerating the long O, because it never fails that someone wants pronounce my name as though they?re making a call!" "I love the fact that people can refer to me by first name in conversations. They may choose to use my last name in a convo, but it is probably not necessary. I live in a fairly large city, and I only know of one other person with my name, and I have not met her. In fact, over my lifetime I have met less than 10 people who have the same name as me. Some spell it my way, some spell it other ways." Nov. 17, 2019:
"MY name is Colette with 1 L and I love it that way. Friends and their parents ALWAYS spell it with 2 Ls. My mom decided on 1 L because 2 Ls, 2 Ts, AND 2 Es is a little much. I love my name because it is very pretty, unique and uncommon. I love when in a movie or book I see the name (which has only happened like 3 times) and it makes me feel really happy!" Apr. 30, 2018:
"This happens to be my name and everyone puts two ls drives me insane! I get so many weird spelling varaitions though it just depends on the person. A lot of people also pronounce it cAHlette instread of Colette. Even get some people saying coletteie" Nov. 6, 2017:
"I named my now 15 dtr Colette. 1 L. Same problem. Our family goes 5 generations of Colette's. Collette, Colletta, Colette. My daughter is Colette Agnes, after a grandmother from me and my husband. It was a toss up between Colette Agnes or Colette Elizabeth. I love it. My brother (55) has found a significant other named Collette. That name I guess belongs in my family." Dec. 28, 2016:
"My mother always said 'Colette' was the proper French spelling. Middle name Renee. Love it, very thankful for the rare but easy/spell able name." Dec. 9, 2015:
"I am Colette spelled with one L, and yes, people mispell my name all the time. I was the only "Colette" in school until a substitute teacher liked my name so much she named her first child with both my first name and my last name. The last name was used as her child's middle name. After having been the only "Colette" other than my namesake for so long, it was quite a shock to find out that my company hired another Colette in one of our offices. That gets quite confusing at times. I love my name, and am forever grateful to my parents for choosing it for me!" May. 8, 2008:
"Colette is my sisters name. She also has the 1-L issue and is forever correcting people. Family members and close friends have always called her Collie." May. 8, 2007:
"My name is Colette, spelt with one L and I am constantly correcting people as it is often mispelt. I think it looks better written with only one L however for the sake of ease LL is better. I have never had anything other than positive comments about my name and I like that it is unusual. I have only ever been the only Colette in my class or school for that matter. Which means its memorable :o)" Mar. 30, 2007:
"i luv it! it is soo pretty and french! and it means "victorious in battle"!!" Dec. 28, 2005:
