"My name is charla (pronounced with a soft sh). Named after my dad, Charles. I was born in 1955 (64). Not only was it mispronounced in school but also as an adult, although I'm finding more people are correctly pronouncing it. I have never met another charla but have heard it pronounced in 1975, on sesame Street. A little girl my daughter's age @ the time,; my daughter is now 46. I love my name. always have. Shoutout to all the other charlas! Embrace your unique name❤️" Nov. 8, 2019:
"I'm happy to share that Charla is here pronounced with the Sh softer version like Charlene & Charlotte. I have been called so many things over the span of my life. However, now with FB Lives and video in general, I try to correct quickly, but in a non-public way. As much as I love my name now I was about the same way in not caring for it when I was a teenager and younger. I am named for both parents and like many others my father was a Charles. I have met other Charla's. My first was as a senior in high school and she was a Sharla.I was confused everytime she was called on in class. I'm an online social marketer and I became more fascinated with the name Charla when buying a domain with Charla became if not impossible at times very pricey. Just to leave everyone with a fun fact you may or may not know about charla in Spanish it means talk or chat. I've seen it translate both ways depending on the translator used. I learned this several years ago from a few Latino co-workers of mine that were amused by it. My constant talking didn't help with my cause. ~Charla" Jun. 13, 2018:
"My name is Charla (1964). Pronounced like Charley. Hard ch. I always get called karla, or people pronounce it with the sh sound. I love it I am the only one around. Both grandfathers were Charles/Charlie. Shout out Charlas of the USA!!" Jan. 31, 2018:
"My name is Charla also pronounced with the "sh" sound. My father is named Charles. I LOVE my name it is very original!" Jan. 15, 2011:
"My name is Charla, pronounced with the hard CH, and I love my name! No matter where I go, if someone says CHARLA!, I know they are talking to me." Apr. 30, 2009:
"I'm Charla as well. 40 years ago, people wondered what my parents were thinking. I grew up correcting EVERYONE on my name, but, despite that, I love me name." Jan. 30, 2009:
"I agree with those other Charlas. My name is Charla too and I am always getting called the wrong thing. It is annoying and dumb...but I really like my name." Mar. 23, 2008:
"I'm a Charla. Hated in elementary school... love it as an adult!" Oct. 30, 2007:
"My 20 month old daughter is named Charla, pronounced "Shar-lah". I didn't realize I was giving her such a difficult name! When people read it they say it was a harsh "CH" or a "K". I just figured people would read it like Charolette.
We named her after a friend (24) who spells it "Sharla". My friend just named her daughter "Charla". We just adore the name, despite funny looks from some tactless people." May. 14, 2007:

"I called my daughter Charla. I fell in love with the name when I heard a little girl's name on Sesame Street in 1975 and said if I have a girl that is gonna be her name. She had a lot of problems with it in her younger years, with adults, not kids. In school, however, when the teachers called her Charlie, karla, Charlotte, CHarla, etc it made her stand out and the kids would laugh. With her being a quiet, shy girl made it worse. She changed the spelling to SH in high school and it made a difference with the pronunciation. She is now nearly 46 and it just so happened one of her daughter's teacher's name was Sharla." Jan. 18, 2021:
"My name is charla (1948)...pronounced with soft 'sh' although my dad (charles) pronounced it with the hard 'ch' sound... its an ok name but it gets misread a lot as carla or charlotte...i have met and heard of a few others with this name... not 'in love' with the name ..." Aug. 5, 2017:
"My name is Charla (1974) with a hard CH. Usually answer to anything remotely similar to how it should sound - including extra letters and syllables! Found that kids have no problem pronouncing it, only adults. Never met another. I am not related to anyone named Charles. My mom said she just liked it. Glad to know you are out there!" "My name is Charla I was born in 1998, I was named after a Charlotte so SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE UNIQUE CHARLA'S" May. 28, 2016:
"This is a generational name in my family. My Great Grandmother, born in 1880, was named Charla, along with one of my Aunts and a Cousin. They all pronounce it with the Ch sound as in Charles. I was told it was the female version of the male name Charles. It never occurred to me that Charla would be pronounced with the Sh sound instead of the CH sound since I had heard it used for generations as Char la" Jul. 20, 2015:
"I am Charla with hard Ch.born in 1954.my sister 1955 named Marla.father was Charles.I have never been fond of my name as people have mispronounced it all of my life. SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE CHARLA S IN THE WORLD." Mar. 9, 2015:
"My name is Charla also pronounced the the sh sound. I was named after my Dad whose name is Charles. I hated it in school because a lot of people mispronounced it. They would either pronounce it with a K sound or a CH sound. It was so embarrassing because kids would laugh and make fun. I used to get so mad. It is not that different from Charlotte or Charlene. It is a unique and pretty name though. I just wish people knew how to correctly pronounce it." May. 22, 2012:
"my name is also Charla with the sh sounds. It is different and I like it. Dad was Charles. I do get the carla and other names called but love my name" Sep. 3, 2010:
"Charla pronounced with the SH sound. Went through life being called Carla or Charla with the CH sound. Now if people would have just looked at the spelling. They call Charlotte or Charlene with the SH sound. It's not that different." Mar. 25, 2010:
"i know a charla! :) peace punch captain crunch! sloane" Aug. 11, 2007:
""This is my name I do like the name. I have had alot of trouble in school with people being able to pronouce it correctly. I like the way(charla)looks better than Sharla so spelling it with an "s" may not be a bad idea. It would get annoying having to correct almost every teacher on the first day of school. I have also only met 2 other charla's , but I do think it is a very pretty name other than that."" May. 15, 2007:
