"I was born in 1950. I was named after Bette Davis, the actress. Today, because of Bette Midler, many people call me "Bet" which bothers me a lot. The nickname "Bets" doesn't bother me, interestingly enough although common sense should indicate that it should bother me. When I introduce myself, many people hear Debbie instead of Bette. It is never spelled correctly. I wear a gold necklace with Bette on it, so hopefully people will get it spelled correctly. I have trouble with my e-mail address because of the spelling of my name. I love my name and the way it is spelled. I also appreciate it so much when others get it right." Nov. 24, 2008:

"My birth name is Bette and I also was named for Bette Davis and feel Bette Midler spoiled it but she'll be forgive because she's a great singer. I've only met one other "Bette" and I wondered how many of us are there? I was born in 1942 and I think the name has died out in popularity. I'd love to hear from other Bettes. Maybe we can form a "Bette" club." Apr. 17, 2021:
"My name is Bette pronounced like Betty. It is short for Elizabeth where I'm from. I was named after my grandmother Bette and my mother Elizabeth. I'm glad to carry on such an extraordinary name and I know I'll pass it on to my first born if she's a female." Jul. 26, 2007:
