"I have enjoyed my name Ardith for 53 years so far. I have met two Ardith's to date and have been told of about 3 more Ardith's who are friends of a friend or acquaintance. I have been told it has an origin in "ancien franıais" (OLD FRENCH), and if so, it would have to be REALLY old French, since the pronunciation of the "th" is difficult to French speakers, the accent is on the last syllable for French speakers, unlike how I pronounce it with the accent on the first syllable, and finally, the English "r" is pronounced differently from the French "r". The meaning is "fiery", and "flashing", kind of like "ardent" or fire in French. The other origin I had been told is Hebrew from the Book of Ardath in the Bible, with a meaning of "field of flowers". Not bad!" Dec. 23, 2005:
