I think it is a really pretty name, and suits females of all ages. Two of my friends have had daughters named Amy in the last couple of years and my eighty year old neighbour is called Aimee. (Although I prefer the AMY spelling) My son thinks its hilarious when he calls me AmyMummy!" May. 6, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1971 and it must have been the peak year for the name Amy. I think there were 10 Amy's in the 6th grade. I always had to go by Amy H. Fun thing is my best friend that I have known since elementary school is named Amy. We were always known as Amy 1 and Amy 2. It was fun to have such a easy name to spell and I like except when trying to do a credit report. With a common first name and a popular last name (Anderson now)it can be confusing when you go to the doctors or other places that need ot know your name." Jan. 28, 2008: Report as inappropriate

I have always felt like a kid at heart so, I LOVE my name. Always have, always will. I am so happy my parents named me Amy." Jan. 26, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "I like being an Amy. It is rarely mispronounced and most people know how to spell it. It's only drawback is that it never sounded formal, I always wished it was short for something like Amelia so if I recieved something official it would have a more embelished feel. On a whole though, I think it's familiar without being common." Jan. 5, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Amy and I was born in 76. I really hated my name growing up. It was so common and boring. My dad's name was Jack and my mom wanted to name me Jaqueline, which would have been way more cool & unique. So even though I'm grown now and don't hate my name...I'm not really a fan." Oct. 27, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "Although my name is Amy, people usually think that I am saying that my name is Mamie. Some people think that my name is short for Amelia, which it is not. I also get asked how to spell my name, which always puzzles me because Amy is such an easy name to spell. I guess people are unsure which Amy-the French Amy or the American Amy. My mother wanted to name me Tabitha or Bridget, but since Amy was much more popular in 1976 the RN in the delivery ward convinced my mother to name me Amy. I much prefer my middle name (Suzannah), which is less cheerleader-ish and serious sounding." Apr. 17, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Amy and I am NOT happy with it! I was born in 1988 and I don?t know a lot of Amy?s. My middle name is Lynn. My name is too short and I don?t like it. I always wanted a longer name. My parents would?ve done me a favor by making my middle name Elizabeth instead. But I like my middle name but wish Elizabeth was my middle name. I have grown to really hate my name these past few years cuz it?s so unpopular and I don?t see it any where. It is now associated with a bad thing recently. Its tied to bad times in America and covid 19 I feel now. Amy is becoming very unpopular and there just aren?t a lot of people named Amy and there aren?t a lot of characters named Amy either. There weren?t a lot of Amy?s to begin with before the 70?s. It NEVER was the most popular name. There are twice as many Jennifer?s as Amy?s whoever says there are too many Amy?s. Amy must?ve been more popular in the UK. Jennifer was the 1970?s most popular and overused name! And the fact that Amy couldn?t beat super dull Jennifer to the most popular name in the 1970??s just because it has no nickname. Pathetic! I like the meaning beloved but Cara means beloved or similar to Amy which Cara is a better name. I wish my name was Cara! It?s always bugged me that I can?t get a nickname with being an Amy like girls with longer names had nicknames. It seems to be a weak name no one wants to use anymore. A decent amount of people seem to dislike it now. And it seems to be a neglected name cuz it?s not on ANYTHING! Not a lot of influential women named Amy either. They have common or unique names usually. And look at the graph. Amy is usually in the top 500 girls and not in the top 100 girls names as the graph shows despite?s it?s 70?s boom! Which is why there aren?t a lot of Amy?s and it?s not a common name in my opinion! It might drop out of the top 1000 for all we know. I hate when they use first names on things cuz they never use Amy because people think it?s too plain simple dull and short! I never felt good about my name and always wished for a different and better one. I did feel close to neutral about it at one point but not now for sure! I seriously have been thinking of changing my name lately! And adding another middle name like Elizabeth or Maria or something. I also feel it is one of the many things that contribute to my low self esteem. I was named Amy cuz I was almost going to be named Amanda which my parents didn?t agree on. If I had the chance and opportunity to change my name I?d change it in a heartbeat!" May. 31, 2021: Report as inappropriate

  • "My friend Amy can be very sketchy yet she is really smart so when she is wrong and i am right i like to rub it in. She is also very innocent and she does not get in trouble but overall Amy is a very good name for a very perfect person." Nov. 25, 2020: Report as inappropriate

  • "My daughter-in-law and I now have the same first and last name. I'm 41 and she's 22. We are both awesome with a great name I'm proud to have!" Feb. 17, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "Here are a couple of thnigs I have done that seem to help Have a home for certain items. I'd have my kids put all their sports items in a certain color plastic bin. Ditto, cub scouts thnigs. Also, they know that certain thnigs have to be packed and ready to go right by the door, so they can grab their thnigs as we rush out the door (we are always rushing). Lastly, compartmentalize thnigs. Choose what you want your kid to do and have them only do one or two actvities at a time. For example, my daughter may want to play basketball and do track, but she doesn't do them simultaneously in the same chunk of time. She'll play basketball for 3 months, then she'll do track. The same thing with my son. He takes Karate, has scouts and CCD. He can't do anything more than that, plus his homework, so he just doesn't do the activities after school. After CCD is over for the year, he may be able to do something else." Mar. 17, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Amy, and I'm okay with it. On one hand, everyone's familiar with it, it's classic, it's easy to pronounce, you don't really get made fun of, and there aren't really any major negative connotations associated with it. However, sometimes I get a little annoyed with how common it is, especially among people my age. (I was born in 1981). In most social settings, work settings, etc. there are multiple Amys, so everyone always has to clarify "Amy Lee" or "Amy Jackson" or whatever. Also, if I hear someone yell "Amy!" when I'm out in public, I barely turn around anymore, because there are usually so many Amys around (Jamies, as well, and it can be hard to tell which name the person is saying)." I just want to feel like she has a very special name that she loves, so it is great to see all of these comments!! :)" Jun. 27, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "My sister is named Amy-Leigh, she gets called Aims, which gives the Amy part of the name an extra letter so it is hardly a shortened version :) The only problem is that my name is Emily, and the two names are very similar, I get called Emi, so Emi and Amy tend to get mixed up alot." • "Those other comments must have come from people who didn't grow up in my part of the country. This is my name and I was born in 1974, and you can see from the chart that there were a zillion other Amys out there at that time. I always had other Amys around. I didn't like that it had to be paired with my last name or last initial when somebody was speaking to me. I lived in Central America for a while as an adult and this name was unheard of there, so nobody could pronounce it and I usually got Any (Annie) on their first try. Amy's a pretty name and it has a lovely meaning (beloved), but my parents just had bad luck on the timing." May. 13, 2006: Report as inappropriate
