"My name is Alexandria and I adore my father for naming me this! I?m an ?83 baby and Caribbean, so at the time, this was an odd name for the environment. My father suggested this after he and my mom saw Flashdance. Lol! When people say or spell it Alexandra I flash a smile and correct them, and then they say, ?oh, that?s so different,? and I just smile back. I have only ever met one Alexandria when I visited New Orleans . I was 12 and it was so cool! She was so elegant! I only allow family to call me Alex. I go by Alexandria, Lex, or Lexi. I correct people that call me Alex. No qualms. I pronounce it Alix-ZAHN-dria but if I?m speaking with a french person (Montrealer here), I say Alix-ZON-dhree-AH ^_~. When I order take out, or need to give my name in public or for mailing lists, I use ?Alexa? to keep it simple and help manage spam email, etc. I love my name! It?s gorgeous, timeless, it suits my vibrant and classy personality, and... it is amazing professionally. We stand out! Win-win." Apr. 24, 2020:
"This is my Name and I do enjoy it now that I am older. I find it pretty. Like other posters, it?s annoying almost borderline offensive when someone pronounces it Alexandra. I prefer to go by Alex or Al. I have also got the laugh from some older folks or foreigners saying well that?s a boy name! I just say it was a birthday present and move on. I believe my mom said she chose this name because I was born brunette (born blonde I would have been Amanda..blah), I could play with it until I found what I wanted to go by, and lastly because it doesn?t rhyme with anything. kids are cruel creatures and she wanted to ensure that my name couldn?t be turned into some mean jingle... And to the posters mom who named her after a Magnificent Library and country full of history to hope she turns out to be well read and cultured, kudos to you. Apparently all my mom worried about was me being Loser lol.
As stated before, I think Alexandria is a very pretty name but I also find it to be rather formal. The only time I am ever called by my complete first name is when/was I?m in
trouble with mother, got married, and HS/College graduation.
1 pitfall I did find with such a long name is how many times I had to spell it in its entirety when we bought a house. The icing on the cake? I married a man with the last name Alexander. ?face palm?" Sep. 7, 2019:

"My name is Alexandria and I want to start off that one of my biggest pet peeves is when people call me "Alexandra"! I used to hate my name but now I love it because it is a strong, yet feminine and there are tons of nicknames you can play around with. My friends call me Alex, Al, Lex, Dria and sometimes Ali." "My name is Alexandria and I love it ! My family calls me Ali and my friends call me Alex. I'm sorry but i HATE IT when people call me Alexandra and I have read all the comments and found that its not just me that gets her name mixed up or it cant fit on the attendance sheet." Dec. 23, 2009:
"My name is Alexandria, and I like it! I am called Ali for short. I just hate when people call me Alexandra or Alexander. I don't like Alex much, either. One kid the other day asked me why I was named like a boy, thinking my name was Alexander! In school, the attendance sheet always cuts off the end of my name, so nobody know my real name! The subs in school always mess up on my name, too. That can get annoying." Jan. 1, 2009:
"My name is Alexandria and just like the comment left on Dec 19, 2007 i was named after the great library! I love to read and to learn. I'm a bit suspicious about that comment, perhaps that was something my mother wrote!" Jun. 25, 2008:

"Named my daughter this in reference to the ancient city in Egypt because of the fact I wanted her to love books and Ancient Alexandria had an amazing library in the ancient times - turns out it worked, she has done so well. People say her name differently depending on which country they come from i.e. some call her "Alexia", and she can use many forms for instance, Andria....its more popular than I thought it would be too!" Dec. 19, 2007:
"Its my name, my parents both pronounce it differently my mum says it alex-AND-ria and my dad pronounces ot alex-arnd-ria, i love the name, but i do go by alex" Jul. 2, 2007:
"Alexandria is my daughter's name. It was one I fell in love with as a child and knew I would give to my own little girl. In 94 no one we knew had this name, after she was born, a woman in the nursery who had her child the same day loved the name and used it. Suddenly, everyone seemed to have it. :( I think it's still so lovely and elegant." Jul. 1, 2007:
