"So we are going to name our first boy Reilly. To me, I always thought that was the traditional way of how to spell it. I love Reilly because it reminds me of my Irish Heritage and I really wanted our child to have an Irish name. I know it is more associated now with a girls name but I love going back to its original origin as a boys name. And I have to laugh about everyone's complaints that no one can get the correct spelling of the name. Lets face it, no one can spell anyone's name correctly now because everyone is trying to be different and spell names so weird that no one can figure out how to spell your name by saying it. My name is Kelly and you have no idea how many times it is spelled wrong. It is such a simple straight forward name that I am surprise how people spell it sometimes. So if you are about naming your child Reilly because people are going to get it wrong, well guess what, I will guess about 85% of the names out there have multiple ways to spell it and people will always get it wrong. Plus the awkward unisex names is also a silly argument because Reilly was traditionally a boys name. But again, society loves making names unisex so I see that problem arising with lots of names in the future.
So what it comes down to is that we are excited to name our first son Reilly John, for it's Irish roots. I love the spelling as is for Reilly, it is very traditional looking to me." Sep. 29, 2015:
"This spelling is definately masculine. This is my husbands name and we always see little girls with this name. Cute but wrong spelling.. For a girl I like Ryleigh. I hate it spelled Riley." Apr. 9, 2015:
"i spell my name reilly and every one loves it i have met some one that spells it rieleigh very interesting. i was named after my dads friends last name i cant remember if it was maiden or not but very cool still. i dont know any boys named reilly that spells it that way im a girl also so kinda weird to just find out it was originally a boy spelling!" "We have a son, Reiley - I am both English and Irish - so it felt fitting to use both versions... sort of a mash of the two most common sir names (this way he can always find his coat in the cloak room!). Also my husband was named after Eric Clapton so we thought it would be fun to also name our first son after a guitar great so we tipped our hats to the incomparable- Riley (BB) King. He is the only REILEY we know - but we do know a couple Riley girls. The most annoying part of him being named Reiley is all of people feeling compelled to tell me about their neighbors dog named Reilly- there seems to be a lot of dogs named Reilly!" Apr. 19, 2009:
"My beautiful son is called Reilly and we love it. It's taken from his Grandmother's maiden name and has good Irish roots. Yes, people always spell it incorrectly but we are soon to advise the the correct way of spelling it. It's sooooooo cool :-)" Mar. 24, 2009:
"Reilly is what I named my son. My maiden name was Reilly. Yes it gets spelled may diferent ways!" Jan. 24, 2008:
"We named our son Reilly, I got it from Reilly's Luck by Louis L Amour. The name means valiant and warlike, since so many parents are giving girls names for boys we tried very hard to name our three boys names that we thought wouldn't lend themselves to being taken over by the girls. Valiant and warlike for a girl, come on!" May. 14, 2007:

"My name is Reilly, I am a guy. I don't recommend giving this name to your son since it has now developed a feminine connotation. The spelling of my name is very uncommon. It also is very uncomfortable explaining to others that it is a unisex name, not just a girl's name." Jun. 24, 2015:
"this is such an ugly way to spell riley. out of all the spellings there is,this is the worst. BOY'S SHOULD NOT BE NAMED REILLY or riley or rylee or ryleigh or rylie or rilee or rileigh or any other form." Jun. 16, 2010:
"I was going to call my baby boy riley but didnt know that the correct way how it could be spelt was reilly, makes sense really when you prenounce it.. that it should be double "l" ....at least now it can be spelt correctly on his birth crtificate, haha" Sep. 18, 2007:

"My adopted daughter is named Reilly. It seems masculine and people are unsure of how to pronounce it. I would love to change the spelling to something that is clearly feminine, but there are criticisms of every option. I don't want to make it worse!" Jun. 26, 2019:
"Reilly's popularity has been spiralling downward for some time. In recent years, continuing the trend, the number of babies given the name Reilly has dropped." May. 23, 2019:
"My name is Rielly. Most people comment about "How it is a girls name" or "how it is usually spelt differently". It is somewhat annoying but its a fine name especially considering it is unisex" Apr. 12, 2019:
"My name is Reilly (girl) and EVERYONE spells it wrong, even my teachers. I have met many other Reilly Riley Rylee's both girls and boys. I like the name because it is very Irish." Mar. 18, 2015:
"My Son named my Grandson after his Grandmother. Her maiden name was Reilly. He was very fond of her. My son also named my other grandson Quinn which was my Mothers maiden name.
I was really honored." Feb. 11, 2014:
"My charcoal's geinttg red hot, put your order in my hand. If you need good hot grilling, try my burger stand. Any way you want it ma'am, I am your burger man. (I'm just singing a song.)" Jun. 16, 2013:
"I have a Ryley. He is 23 yrs old. He has never met another Ryley. Not even through his college years. I didnt want to use Reilly, just for the spelling sake. His grandfather named him. And its suitable because we have Irish heritage in our family. His given name is Ryley Benjamin.......There is one problem/when you pronounce Ryley with a southern accent.....it sounds like "Raleigh"" Sep. 11, 2010:
"Our 3 year old son's name is Reilly. My husband insisted on the name, so I chose the spelling, to be sure people would know he is a boy. It also beckons back to my Irish roots. We love the name and wouldn't change his name for anything." Oct. 4, 2009:
"My maiden name is Reilly. I have found that people take the "easy way out" and spell it Riley all the time. My child will have the name Reilly as either first or middle name. No easy way outs anymore." Jan. 8, 2009:
"My son is named Reilly. People always spell it wrong. We were just reading this page. He was born in 1999, when the spelling "Riley" was becoming popular for girls. Since he was born on St. Patrick's Day, we wanted to pay homage to the Irish, so we made sure to spell it "Reilly" which of Irish roots. "Riley" is supposedly from Old English decent."
