"My name is Prentiss I was given this name in 1959. Iam an African American man living in Los Angeles California. I spelled my name Prentice until I started the first grade and then my first grade teacher changed the spelling to Prentice. I was born in Missou and every one there could spell my name and pronounce it with no problem but when I arrived in Los Angeles no one could pronounce my name correctly. They pronounce it Prestice Preston Princess Pricese Curtis.etc. A few years ago as I was writing my name on a piece of paper I actually looked at the spelling of my name for the first time in my life and I finally understood why people have a difficult time pronouncing it." "This is my name. It's interesting, b/c throughout life it's mispronounced a lot. I get Preston, Prince, Percy, Curtis, etc. etc. When I introduce myself I always have to either repeat it or say, "it's like the word Apprentice without the A." I pronounce my name making a silent T like, Pren-niss. It flows well. Though through school and life I sometimes get what I call the teacher's pronunciation and that is with the T i.e., PrenTiss. That's it!
