"My name is Garrett Olsen and I was born in 90.... my frequent nickname is Gary but also go by G and G-Baby quite often as well. My wife likes the name and that?s all that matters for me haha!" Feb. 12, 2020:
"I grew up with the name Garrett and got the typical nicknames. Being redheaded makes Garrett the Carrot jokes that much funnier to kids. The best part, though was growing up and getting in trouble for sitting in my assigned seat in middle school. My teacher was furiously saying, "This is Garret's seat". Promising to her that my name was Garrett, she retaliated with, "but you're not a boy". I'll forever br living with the fact that I will have strangers asking if Garrett is my real name or if I go by something more feminine. Regardless of it all, living as a girl named Garrett comes with great honor to my family" Nov. 16, 2016:
"my name is Garrett. Growing up in the 60's I hated it that I could not get anything with my name on it and teachers told me I got my name wrong. In the late 70's my mom bought me 4 tee-shirts with my name boldly printed on the front. About 1979 I began traveling and wore the shirts all over. Many people with plane reservations, operators and clerks remarked they liked the name and might use it one day for a child. At one time I traced the name back and found it was very old. The former meaning was "Mighty Warrior with a Spear" (I preferred this to rule with a spear). It was used in Old English and Old Norse, mostly as a sir name. At one time I found a book that said that "Garretts guarded the garrison", the image of the soldiers with spears and shields came to mind. The castle Garrett kept coming up in my searches. the "Keep" was suppose to be the most secure place in any castle, above the Keep was a "Garrett" it was a storehouse of weapons and was a place for security and safety as being the last room to fall in the castle. A Garret (Old French)was a habitable attic which was close to being a watch tower, I believe the name came from the room above the keep as it is associated with military use. The name Garrett became associated with safety and security from this I believe. I have found it odd how many have heard the name for the first time and associated the name with both strength and safety." May. 2, 2015:
