"November 1, '06, I had a son born at 26 weeks who we named Elijah, sadly he passed away two days later. November 1, '07 at 33 weeks we had Elisha.... The prophet and his predecessor...two babies born on "All Saints Day" . Yes I am constantly correcting people pronouncing it as E-lee-shuh or Elijah(which he doesn't mind too much because he said it connects him to his big brother in heaven👼), but I have met many little boys with the same name so its seems to be becoming a pretty popular name." "It's my son's name. I'm sick of ignorant people thinking he's a girl. If Elisha is a misspelling of Alecia, those parents must have been idiots." Jul. 9, 2014:
"This is my nephews name pronounced "Ee-lie-shuh".I think it is a wonderful name, though MANY people who dont know him such as doctors call him "Ee-lee-shuh" which is how it would be pronounced as a girls name or they call him "E-lie-juh"(with a J instead of an S).I think it an awesme name for a boy or girl...just wish people would learn how to pronounce it and make sure its a boy or girl before they attempt to say it." Jan. 29, 2011:
"This is my name as well..my parents were expecting a boy...but had me (a girl) and so kept the name anyway..and people do pronounce it Eleesha..but many know what and where the name derives from, which means more to me than it being pronounced incorrectly..and I feel very fortunate to carry the name." Jul. 5, 2009:
"This is our newborn sons name. And yes, we already have problems with people mispronouncing it, saying it as a female name. It is very annoying. Had thought about changing the spelling, but his name is Elisha, not Elijah. And we do tend to call him Eli, even sometimes E.J. as his middle name is John." Dec. 10, 2008:
"People read it wrong and think I'm a girl *****HOWEVER***** once I correct them . . . they remember, and complement me on my beautiful name. It has brought me a double portion of life." Mar. 23, 2006:

"I am a girl and this is my name. I absolutley hated that peipele could not pronounce it so i changed it to Leesha. Much simpler and still going by the name my mother gave me. Never heard it was a boys name...absurd." Dec. 10, 2014:

"It is a confusing name, and People should not get bent out of shape because it was pronounced wrong Come on people its spelt Elisha. with all the different spellings of some of the older names now days you really can't tell anymore.." Jun. 9, 2016:
"My name is Elisha (ee-lie-sha). I'm a guy and it drives me nuts when people assume it to be a girls name. I get over it though because the biblical meaning behind it is a blessing. I typically just go by eli." Feb. 21, 2014:
"For all of you who think that Elisha is a girls name and an alternate spelling of Alicia, consider this.
Elisha, Alicia, and Alyssa are THREE DIFFERENT NAMES with THREE PARALLEL ORIGINS.
Elisha comes from the Old Testament, an apprentice of Elijah.
Alicia, a form of Alice, comes from Saint Adelaide, wife of Holy Roman Emperor Otto the Great.
Alyssa has a THIRD parallel history and does NOT come from Elisha or Alicia, but rather, a greek phrase "a + lyssa" meaning "Rationality".
If you are a girl and named Elisha as a spelling variant of Alicia, don't take offense, most likely your parents didn't know about the prophet Elisha. In that case, your name DOES come from Alicia, Alice, and Adelaide.
Elisha (Ee + liy + shaw) is a GREAT NAME for a boy and you should name him this." Jun. 17, 2012:
"Yes it is very frustrating because our son's name is Elisha, not Elijah or Alicia which he gets called many times. We just keep correcting people and hope for the best. My own family can't even get it right! But he was named after Eli Manning whose full name is Elisha." Sep. 13, 2010:
"well it depends to the person calling me, some pronounce it as ee-lie-shuh and some ee-lee-shuh.. they say ee-lie-shuh's for a male and ee-lee-shuh's for a female.. i'm a female but i prefer to be called ee-lie-shuh." Aug. 11, 2010:
"I think it's a cool name someone else that's not me. Most people don't know how to say it because of the "E". And many people think that it's a boys name but it is a girl's name to. Im a girl who has that name people should be more open minded." Nov. 19, 2009:
"I named my son Elisha and to me it is a beautiful biblical, but it is really frustrating because most people assume he is a little girl and pronounce his name "E-lee-sha" i have thought of changing it but, it would just feel wronge to call him by any other name, He is my baby Elisha now 14months old" Feb. 20, 2009:
"Get ready to have your name pronounced "E-lee-sha". It is so very aggravating." Jun. 23, 2008:
"The name Elisha is kind of differnt, but if you like it I suggest u call him Eli." Dec. 21, 2007:
"Yeah this is actually a male name right? Arabic or something? Is it supposed to be pronounced ee-LIE-shuh?" Dec. 23, 2006:
