"My son's name is Atticus. My husband chose the name from the book "To Kill A Mockingbird". He liked the qualities associated with the character "Atticus Finch" - intelligence, fairness, compassion, courage. I was hesitant to choose such an uncommon, weighty name, but I'm so glad I agreed! My experience is that people love the name. My son has a welcoming, outgoing personality and is well liked and very popular. I think this is partly because of the name as well - people always remember him because he is the only "Atticus" most of them know. Even teachers/students who don't interact with him on a daily basis say hi to him and greet him in passing. My family was against the name in the beginning (too unusual they said), but now we couldn't imagine him as anything else. My child has truly "become" the name and our experience has been very positive." Oct. 20, 2010:

"My son is named Atticus and I am so tired of other people hearing his name and then naming their sons that!! I was trying to use an unusual name and it seems to have caught on like wildfire....Here's some bad stuff for it-
My son's nickname is Atti, the same basically as his playmate, Addison "Addi" and she is a girl.
Atticus is long to say when trying to call for him." May. 11, 2007:
