  • "My first grandaughter was just born September 2, 2014. My daughter always said she was going to name her baby girl Vayda after the girl in the movie My Girl. Her name is Vayda Miriah and I think it is very beautiful." Sep. 11, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "My grandmothers name is Veda and so is my mom. They were from Bishopville, SC. I have always wondered where this name came from or if it was just a popular name in that day." Jun. 27, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Vayda Savannah and I love it! I always get many compliments and questions regarding origin and meaning. Like many here I was named in part because of My Girl, but my mother also read an obituary of a woman named Veda in the same week of watching the movie. She altered the spelling and here I am! I think Vayda is such a cool name to have, I'm glad it was bestowed upon me and I definitely recommend it...you definitely come to embrace the unique-ness!" Apr. 3, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda. I'm 38. Named after my great aunt. When I was younger I hated my name. I always got called valvetta cheese!!! Lol. Now I love having such a unique name and I'm always getting compliments on my name!! Cheers to all of us Vedas!!" Jan. 30, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "When I was pregnant I was really praying for a daughter so that I could use the name Veda! I wanted an easy to pronounce Indian name that would reflect the roots of our culture--the Vedas are ancient Indian sacred texts dating back to the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Luckily I got my wish and my daughter Veda is a wonderful, beautiful 13 y/o. I hope she lives up to the meaning of the name--"knowledge" in Sanskrit." Aug. 18, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda, pronounced vee-da, often misprounced Vay-da. I don't let it bother me. I'm 50 this year and I love my name. It is unique. My father-in-law used Velvetta as a way to remember how to pronounce my name. And I've been called Veda, Cheetah as well. But I wouldn't trade it for a more common name." May. 4, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "Veda was my mother in laws name. I had never heard it before I met her and have met no one else by that name. I had an aunt Vida (long i sound)" Feb. 21, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "Vayda is my daughters name. First off I loved the movie My Girl, I loved Anna Clumsky in the movie, but more importantly I loved the name "Vada" in it. My name is Dayna (yes with a Y) so that is why I added in the Y for VaYda! I do not like any other spelling of it. And I think when it is spelled anyother way it would be pronounced wrong. And yes, I do know people still pronounce it wrong spelled V-a-y-d-a but I find it easier to pronounce when its spelled the way it sounds." Jan. 5, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "This is my daughters name, but we spell it Vayda. We only get compliments on the name. Vayda Lynn, love it ;)" Oct. 8, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "It's my daughter's name! she is ten and adorable. :-)we spell it Veda (and pronounce it vay-duh). yes, we've heard the darth vader thing...but you can try mentioning the AVEDA spa/salon products. that has helped people to remember how to spell it/pronounce it. we hear "Vee-da" too.we just politely correct as we do the vay-duh pronunciation. Prettiest name ever!!! ;-)" Aug. 19, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I had my baby girl in May 2011.and named her VEDA.Had this name in my mind since school days( my Bio teacher was called Veda) and I promised my self that if i have girl I will name her VEDA:)" Apr. 18, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I think it's an absolutely beautiful name and I'm definitely naming my daughter this one day." Mar. 7, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am my mothers first girl, my name is Vayda pronounced "Vay-duh", my mother was watching the movie "My Girl" before her water broke & then she decided to call my Vayda. I admit that when your younger "darth vader" bugs you, Im 17 & not many people call me "darth Vader" as much when i was around 10, when your younger it also makes you feel good that no one knows how to spell or pronounce your name, overall i love my name its pretty unique" Feb. 9, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I just had my first baby, and we named her Veda (pronounced Vay-duh) Clementine. She's absolutely perfect! And I'm not worried about the Darth Vader thing...when she starts acting fussy, I call her Darth Veda...our family runs on having an unconventional sense of humor :-)" Feb. 8, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Vayda, pronounced like it is spelled. Do not name your baby this name unless you forever want the teasing of "Darth Vader" not even kidding. EVERYONE has done this to me my whole life. It doesn't old to anyone... Trust me." Jan. 18, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda Louise, it's the feminine of David, and means Truth. And it's pronounced Vee-da. It was my mother's middle name, my grandmother's first name, and it's my daughter's middle name. Most people like the name and think it's pretty. A lot of people say Vayda, which is wrong in my family. I've seen the name only a few times in my 60 years. So it's very unusual. And I much prefer Vee-da to Vayda anyday. Blessings." May. 21, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "hi,this is my daughter name, veda vinod.Perfect combination ha . i know its knowledge,i loved that name.but my relatived not liked. even my husband too.every body said its pronownced/ teesing as veda/vedhalam.meand devil" May. 2, 2011: Report as inappropriate

I have never met anyone with my name, yet. I never liked my name when i was younger but now i love it because it's unique." Jan. 27, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "We named our daughter Veda Layne. I think it is very beautiful and unique. The only issue so far is that we named her after the Sanskrit meaning of the word for "sacred knowledge" and people often pronounce it incorrectly as Vee-dah instead of Vay-dah." Dec. 18, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love this name. I am 6 weeks pregnant and I want to use "Veda" if I have a girl. I think Veda Sophia would be nice." Dec. 9, 2010: Report as inappropriate

We just love the name and it rolls together so sweetly...I just can't wait for my Veda to get here!!!" Oct. 6, 2010: Report as inappropriate

Also I believe linked to a Greek Goddess so I have been told. lovely to see it being used these days afar from all the "new" names now appearing." Jul. 29, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda....and I was the first born girl ....My mother had 5 six boys and then me...and one more boy and 3 more girls...lol....However, I got the name Veda....pronounced with the long e sound....as it looks....I love my name....when I was young ..no one knew how to pronounce it....and still bank teller's get it wrong....But, I like it for the knowlege and wisdom factor and the uniqueness of the name....it is not common in NC.....and I am not a Hindu...I am a born again Christian! And I guess the Lord knew I would need all the wisdom and knowledge I could get ...so ...he had my mother to call me by that name....(smile) xoxo's Veda" Jul. 11, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "Our daughter is due in 5 weeks and we're planning to name her Veda (vay-duh) after the sanskrit meaning wisdom/knowledge. I also loved the character in My Girl, so that's a bonus. I like that it has ethnic roots, as well as americana roots. Turns out my husband's great aunt was also Veda." Jun. 25, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "We are namein our little girl this. She is due on Halloween 2010. We love it but we still havent decided on a middle name. We like unique names. So far we are considering Veda January, Veda Star(which I despise), Veda Faith, Veda Louise, Veda Elise. We will pronounce it Vay-da I LOVE IT!" Jun. 25, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "I have a daughter that's named Veda. Some people call her veeda and some vidda.I am familiar with the meanings, but hers was to mean the Hindu version. She is 6 and she is full of wisdom and knowledge. Many people haven't heard of it unless they liked My Girl. I love that its fairly uncommon where I live!" Apr. 26, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My daughter was born 01/19/10 and we named her Veda. I had a great aunt named Vada, and I liked my way of spelling it better. I also loved the movie "my Girl" but that's not where I got the name. She's unique, and people often pronounce her name 'veeeduhh' but it's no big deal. Her pediatrician's name is actually 'veda' but she pronounces it 'veeeduhh' haha.. the english language is humerous. you say tomatoe I say tomatoe. wait what? X-)" Apr. 6, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "Veda is also a sanskrit word meaning knowledge/wisdom. In India it would be considered a little...prideful..to name your child so as 'the vedas' are ancient texts from the iron age. As far as Indians are concerned it is pronounced 'Vay-da'...the 'ay' is pronounced the same way it is in 'way/day' etc. the 'da' sound is different from the d in different/dog etc. it's a softer sound. I can't think of an english word that contains it. Ask an Indian to sound it out for you sometime." Dec. 6, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name's Veda and I love it! I didn't always though...growing up, no one could pronounce it (especially substitute teachers) or spell it and kids always taunted with Velveeda or Darth Vader or Aqua Veda. I told myself over and over that I'd change it to my middle name (Marie) when I turn 18, but 18 came around and it was starting to grow on me. You spend the first 15 years of your life trying be like everyone else and the next 15 being thankful for everything that makes you unique. I'm 24 now and couldn't be happier with the name Veda. :)" Dec. 3, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "I named one of my lambs Veda. Veda is now a bottle baby since her mother died unexpectedly and she follows me everywhere! I've never heard the name before. I took the letters from the state of Nevada to make her name. Everyone loves her name and when I have female grandchild, I hope my children will conssider this beautifull name." Aug. 22, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "We are due in November and are naming our little girl Veda Isabel. We just kind of fell into it when I suggested Ava (which is wildly popular for little girls right now) and my husband didn't like the name Ava. We knew a "V" in the name would be great, and just kind of transitioned into Veda and have loved it every since. We tried out other names, but know this is the right one for her since it is so unique!" Aug. 18, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda. I am 53. I have never met another Veda. I love my name, but, of course, people pronounce it incorrectly all the time. Vayda, Vedda, Rita, Anita, and, yes, Velveeta. I get Darth Veda all the time, as well as In a Gada da Veda, Veda Las Vegas, and Veda Peter Pumpkin Eater. There are more, but not enough room here to write them. One person said, "Shouldn't that be spelled V-I-D-A?" What an idiot!!" Apr. 5, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "We just named our daughter Veda, born on Friday, and so far everyone seems to love it. They say they do, anyway. We did have one distant friend ask it it's Veeda or Vayda in pronunciation, but other than that we've told everyone the name in person, so there's been no confusion. I can't imagine her being called anything else." Feb. 16, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Veda, pronounced vee-da. It is often mis-pronounced vay-da. I love my name. I have only met a couple of Veda's in my 40+ years. I do get nicknamed Velvetta often - UGH. I've also been called Veda, Cheetah - meh. I'm glad my parents chose this name for me." Jan. 2, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is VIDA (in English reed it Veeda)It is also an old Slavic name originating from the male pagan God VID who is the Slavic deity of war, fertility and abundance. Also derived is the verb VIDATI (veedeaty) meaning TO HEEL. It is becoming more commone recently, but I have met only one Vida in my life so far, and I am 30. There is the longer version of the name Vidosava which is older and more common. I have always been in love with it. In Hebrew it means the loved one, in spanish life and so on..." • "I think people should stop talking about it. Because I named my daughter Vayda because I knew nobody with that name . Now of course it is popping up and it would be great to see it not be a topic somewhere so 3 million people don't copy it . There seems to be no unique names left because as soon as you choose one everybody else does. So shhh you all hate the name it's hideous and you'll never name your kids that so it doesn't become an Aidan or a Bella epidemic! :)" Mar. 3, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "Until now I did not know that anyone at all could be called VEDA. I do hate the name with all my heart-PARENTS BEWARE WHAT YOU NAME YOUR CHILDREN-.My father's ego made him always incline to the extravagant and the "unique" therefore he chose the name Veda for me, luckly it is my middle name,I am from Argentina and I think the name Veda is defenitly not common here AND IT IS NOT consider a beautiful name." • "Hello, I'm Indonesian, and a mother of two. I did not realize that there are many Veda's in the U.S, though still a rather unique name. When I was in university, I met one girl named Veda who was older than I am and I have liked that name ever since. She was the only Veda among many Indonesians. It's such a rare name here. we have Vidya or Widya but hardly Veda. So when I was about to give birth to my first born, I said if it's a girl, I want to name her Veda (pronounced Vayda). But I didn't know what it means, so my Balinese friend who is a Hindu looked it up and said that Veda comes from the root Sanscrit word 'Vied' which means 'knowledge'. It all fell into place in my heart, I started wishing her to become a wise person and now she is almost 14 years old, always enjoys reading and searching for answers (knowledge), her eyes perk up when she learns something new, level-headed and wiser than kids her age, cool and funny. She is my best friend, too. So, to me, it's a beautiful name and worth to keep." Oct. 17, 2014: Report as inappropriate

A lot went on when I reached the age of 50. I was on the TV & the radio. How will I spend my 100th!!! I get called Vayder, V, Vidder & worst of all VD. • "Our Veda was born on Halloween, named after her paternal great-grandmother. Her namesake was a very strong woman who raised her 4 children alone after her husband left her with them and his own ailing father when he took the family car. She didn't miss a beat, taking care of all of them without complaint and with much compassion. Our Veda is named for these qualities as well as the meaning, "knowledge, wisdom." Some people say "veeda" but I don't care. Some people mispronounce my common name. You can't name your child to please other people. I like that it is unique. It gives automatic character and strength." Jan. 30, 2010: Report as inappropriate
