"My mom named me after the actress Shelley Winter and i simply adore my name. I get annoyed when people misspell my name omitting the second e. The fact that it is uncommon is also a plus. I had the honour of ging my granddaughter second name Shelley and she is just as proud." Sep. 27, 2010:
""Records indicate that at least 70,671 girls have been named Shelley since 1880 in the United States." Really? That many? That's cracked out...since I never could find anything already pre-personalized growing up like those cool embossed pencils or keychains or those little license plates you can get at truckstops on road trips...." "I was always called Smelly Shelley with the big fat belly at school. But hey they were just jealous. I like the fact I'm the only Shelley I know, but it does mean that it is consistently mis-spelled." Sep. 25, 2008:
"I am Shelley. I was born on my dad's birthday, after two boys, so he got to pick my name. He named me after Shelley Winters, his favorite actress. I am very protective of the "e" and hate it when it it misspelled." May. 13, 2008:
"My name is Shely but not shortened from Michelle. I wanted a longer name as a child but truly enjoy my name as an adult. There are not very many of us around anymore. I do encourage normal spelling of names because even my Grandpa misspelled my name." Feb. 5, 2008:
"My name is Shelley and I was named after Shelley Winters who was my dads favourite actress. I hate it when people think that my name is Michelle. When I was younger I wasnt sure I liked my name but as I have gotten older I have realised that there is not many Shelleys out there and I am pleased to have such an uncommon name." Jun. 28, 2007:
"I enjoy my name as well! I also always get annoyed with people spelling it Shelly, especially since I've never actually seen anyone spell it that way. I like having a name that's less popular, I never had to be Shelley C. at school like all the Sarahs and Lisas, etc." Apr. 1, 2007:
"My name is Shelley with an"e" and I have always loved it. I am glad that my mother chose a name that isn't too popular. The only thing is that it rhymes with a lot of silly things like "belly" "jelly" "smelly" so when I was a kid I got easily teased. But when it all comes down to it, it is a great name, and my friends call me Shell for short which is nice. I would highly reccomend this name!" Dec. 11, 2006:
"People always spell my name without the "e" (Shelly). I really like my own spelling "shelley"" Aug. 15, 2006:
"shelly is my name and I love it Its not popular at all yah." Apr. 29, 2006:
"No, people do not pronounce it wrong. I have enjoyed the name for the past 36 years. It's pretty and "fun". As a Black woman, I haven't met many in my race with my name and personally...I like that; however, I have met other Shelleys' (boys and girls) but it is not an over-used name!" Apr. 10, 2006:

"My name is Shelley and I don?t really like it. I?d rather be called something like ?Holly? or ?Becky? or a catchier name. I don?t know why I don?t like my name, since everyone I?ve met say that it?s a nice or a pretty name. My next door neighbour is called ?Shelly? without the E. That?s weird." Jan. 16, 2018:
"My name is Shelley. I went to a small school with three other Shelleys. We all spelled our names the same so my name didn't feel original or unique. As an adult I live in another small town and know 7 other Shelleys!! For some reason it was a really popular name in my part of the country during the 60s and 70s. For this reason I have never loved my name. I prefer to be called Shell." Apr. 23, 2017:
"Those of us with 1 e, have to correct just as much bc everyone puts the 2nd e in there. It goes both ways." Apr. 28, 2013:
"My Mom considered naming me Michelle but then she thought "We will be calling her Shelley anyway so we might as well name her Shelley" and I am glad she did. It is fun to have a name that is less common but not weird. Thanks Mom:)" Jun. 30, 2012:
"I never really liked my name, Shelley, cause it reminds me of a turtle. Also, it rhymes with smelly. Everyone spells it wrong, no matter how many times I spell it out, they leave off the e. My mom says she thought of cursive swirls when she choose my name. My boyfriend's step mom's name is also shelly, but its spelled wrong." May. 7, 2009:
"My name is Shelley, and I like it. When I was younger, I wanted a name that could be shortened/lengthened - I was always just 'Shelley' or 'Shell' (for close friends). My sister's name was Rebecca so she could be 'Rebecca' when she wanted to be taken seriously, or Becky when she was with friends/family. Now I like my name. I've met several others with it as well, though none my age (I'm 26) - they all tend to be older.
As for spelling, people constantly leave out the second 'e', even if I've sent them an email and signed it 'Shelley' they still write 'Shelly' - that irks me - way to tell me you're totally NOT paying attention to me. People often have a hard time remembering my name when they first meet me too, so I'm often called 'Shirley' or 'Charlene' and have even been confused with 'Sally' and 'Leslie'... French people have an especially difficult time pronouncing it, but once they figure it out, it's easy. The worst was a teacher (French) who insisted on calling me 'Sholay'... Ha ha... Whatever. I like my name, it's slightly sophisticated, yet still not too fancy. :)" May. 22, 2008:
"I like my name. My best friend and I both share this name, but have met few other Shelley's. Both my friend and I are very protective of the "e" in our names(spell it that way, if you choose the name - gives the name balance, somehow, and makes it fun when writing it in cursive - lots of loops). I also like the nickname "Shel" reserved for those closest to me..." Mar. 20, 2008:
"My name is Shelley. It's good to have a name that isn't common. People don't have any problem pronouncing it but do often spell it without the second e. I get called Shell, Shells and Shells Bells as nick names." Feb. 21, 2008:
"People always spell my name Shelly without the "e" and it infuriates me. Shelley is an old surname and "Shelly" is just a variant." Feb. 12, 2007:
"It's a really pretty and attractive name but it has a rare spelling so it is occasionally mispelled and uncomfortable." Sep. 2, 2006:
