"I love the name Ruby! It rolls so easily off the tongue and I intend to give it to my daughter who will be born in Jan 07! I used to associate the name with old ladies lol, and in fact, my Great Grandmother was called Ruby May. But for some reason, I heard this young girl being called Ruby on TV and thought how pretty and cute it sounded. Since then, I'm hooked! Now I can't wait to start calling, 'Ruby ru! Where are you?' "At least TWO reasons why I (being a Briton, of course) would never name MY child Ruby. The first reason is because of its being the no.2 girl's name in the UK in 2007 and the second reason is because when I grew up in the Eighties and Nineties I almost always thought it an old lady's name like Mildred and Gladys are at the present time (although I probably knew that Rod Stewart and one-time girlfriend Kelly Emberg named their daughter Ruby in 1987), and there are still some old ladies about today who bear that name. I suppose some people from long ago thought it was bad enough Sarah and Emma being the no.1 and no.2 girls' names respectively in the UK baby-naming charts in 1981 if the people then and beforehand still considered THEM old ladies' names - yet many of the girls in my school answered to those two names and some of them were sisters of each other." "I have a mintature Schauzer named Ruby. I do think it is a great name for a child, but my husband is orthodox so we must name our child a saint name. This rule didn't apply to pets, so i called our dog this name. We love her very much and I think my husband really likes the name now, when he probably didn't before. We call her Rubes for short, or punky rubster.. if your name is Ruby, you are lucky, it's a very pretty name." Mar. 26, 2010:
"The Kaiser Chiefs' song goes by this name and it goes like "Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby"" Nov. 28, 2009:

"MY name is RUBY and I was named it in 1991 when it was NOT POPULAR and people used to comment on my name. NOW Ruby is the SECOND MOST POPULAR NAME of 2007 in England where I live and I HATE that people have just de-specialised it by using it for any old child they create. I Think that it is SELFISH and now I have a terrible COMMON name and I may as well of been called JESSICA or something. I'm thinking of changing it to Rubena (Ru-bey-nuh)because I am SICK AND TIRED of the common name that I USED to love." Feb. 26, 2008:
"I usually still think this name belongs to old ladies, along with Mildred, Hilda, Alma, Peggy, and Irene. Yet there was a time when our parents grew up thinking that Sarah, Emma, Kate, Rebecca, Lucy, and Charlotte were old ladies' names - yet they all came back in the 1970s in Britain and Ruby has made a comeback more recently, along with Grace and Lily. Perhaps Audrey and Joyce may do the same thing if Ruby becomes dated again in, say, 2030 AD." Jan. 17, 2008:
"It's pretty and represents something nice, but my BFF's little brother named his green bearded dragon Ruby..." Sep. 21, 2007:
