"On mine is spelled differently it is Rochela pronounced as row_shell_la" Mar. 30, 2017:
"My name is Roschele. Most of the people I came across pronounced my name as, "Ruh-shelle", some even "Row-chelle", but my name should be pronounced as "Ross-chelle". I'm from south africa btw. I love my name, because its quite uncommon. I love the fact that I always have to correct people when pronouncing and spelling my name, it makes my name seem quite rare and uncommon. I also feel that I have a quite unique version of the name, many people spell it as rochelle, whereas mine has a bit of a twist. I'm so glad my parents decided on this name. I've never heard of any other roschele's name being spelt like mine. I just love its uniqueness...<3" Aug. 22, 2014:

"I have found that alot of people say RAH shell instead of ROW shell, seems odd to me since the spelling is Rochelle and not Rachelle, but i pronounce my name RAH shell, just because i dont like the way people say ROW shell. hah!" Jan. 10, 2014:
"I named my daughter Rochelle because it is a beautiful and unusual name." Mar. 18, 2013:
"Rochelle is my name too! I've always liked it because it is strong but pretty and just a little bit different. The emphasis is definitely on the 'chelle' when pronounced. Strangely many people are confused about how to pronounce it which always puzzled me because it is so similar to 'Michelle' which most people have come across before. I find it is often misheard as 'Michelle' or 'Rachel' or 'Rachelle'. My mum never encouraged nick names while I was growing up, she didn't like 'Shelly' in particular which i definitely picked up on. However some nicknames I have had include Ferrero Rocher ( the chocolate) Roch ( like Rosh not Roach, never been called Roach), Rocky, Ro-Ro also Rochelle Rochelle (Seinfeld reference). Little kids call me Chelle and I don't mind that but i always imagine it spelt Chelle or Chel never Shell, I really don't like it spelt with an 'S'. I've heard of a few other Rochelle's and went to school with a Richelle but I don't find it a very common name here in Australia. I like that it means 'little rock', something which has inherent strength." Oct. 25, 2012:
"My middle name is Rochelle and my grade school bestie and sister nicknamed me Roach hotel...smh...the roach part stuck and now my sister had taught it to my nephew lol...it's not so bad coming from him. Anyways I just met a guy at work named Rochell...we're currently having a debate whether it's a male or female name lol" Feb. 16, 2012:
"My name is Rochelle and I'm also from Canada! I have met one girl with the same name as me, and two girls named Rachelle who pronounce it the same way. My middle name is Suzzanne. I like having so many double letters in my name, lol! I really love my name, and I like it that most of my friends call me "Chelle" without even really thinking about it. The only real problem is that people want to spell it like "Shell" and that annoys me! And of course I have some annoying friends who constantly call me Rachel and Michelle." Jan. 17, 2011:
"It is my name and as I have gotten older (I'm 42 now) I have grown to appreciate it. I especially love that the mother on "Everybody Hates Chris" is named Rochelle. Still, I think it is great to have a name that is very rare and pretty." Oct. 4, 2010:
"My name is Rochele Lynne I love my name and im 22 (:" Sep. 24, 2010:
"My name is Rochelle Janee' and I love my name! I have had many many many nicknames bc of it but none bothered me too bad. I have two older brothers and they called me roach, so when the kids at school thought they could give me a hard time and call me roach I would just smile and say that's what my brothers call me. I am almost 30 and I am still receiving various nicknames. At work they want to call me Ro because it's easier but I tell them no, Rochelle is NOT hard to say. Little kids call me Chelle and I love it! But if you are an adult I would like to be called my full name. My husband got on a kick of calling me Rose and I really didn't like that. Alot of people assume I'm black, but I'm a white girl. I love my name because I think it makes me stronger and have more patients because I have to say my name very clear and anymore I go ahead and spell it before they even ask." Aug. 13, 2010:
"My name is Rochelle. I love my name and wouldn't change it. Though I get frustrated when I'm called Rachel, Michelle, or Rachelle. I have nicknames like Chelle/Shell, Ro, Ro-Ro, Rocky, Chelle-Belle, and Shelley (but I hate being called Shelley). It's a beautiful name and I never had trouble spelling it, but it's still unique." Jul. 24, 2010:
"My name is Rochelle, when i was younger i did not like my name, because of the kids teasing me about my name, but now that i am older i learned to love it because it is so unique. I am from a really small town so everyone knows who i am because nobody has the same name, deffinitly love my name for sure <3" May. 21, 2010:
"My name is Rochelle Renee..and I have always loved it. It is pronounced Ro-SHELL. Was an uncommon name and I had my share of nicknames but I find the nicknames to be quite cool, with the exception of Rocky. Most people call me Rochelle or Ro or Shell's Bell's." May. 10, 2010:
"Hi my Middle name is Rochelle.
When i was born my mums best friend was watching over me and so my mum called me Rhiannon Rochelle. At school my friends call me Rochelle Lorelle. i love it. to ll the Rochelle's out there you're ALL special no matter what anybody says! :)" May. 2, 2010:

"hi..I am Rochelle and I'm from the Philippines. My mom named me after Rochelle del Carmen(as she've seen on magazine in the hospital), a famous model during the year i was born.. at first, i don't like to have my name, because it's common in our country. But now, I learned to like it. " Little Rock" really is a cool meaning.. i am little, but not a rocker(haha)..for me, it means a silencer but an achiever.. thanks mom for the name.." Mar. 7, 2010:
"My name is Rochelle as well and I am from Sydney Australia. My family calls me 'Che-Che or Chelle' When I was in Primary School I always copped having the Shell Petrol slogan said to my face 'Go Well Go Shell'. I got Roach too but once I started Highschool everyone commented how much they loved my name. I got the nickname 'Ro' or Chelley. Now I am 30yrs old and almost everyone I am introduced to always comments on how beautiful my name is. So all the 'Rochelle's' out there. Be proud of your name." Feb. 4, 2010:
"I always loved that name Rochelle, My daughter born in 1986 has this name. Rochelle Lynn. She is an amazing and strong women..She had a great aunt Rachelle, and I loved Rachelle too and wanted to change it a bit. She has grown into her name, a beautiful strong women...No messing with Rochelle...Love you babe..." Jan. 11, 2010:
"I adore my name. Iım 24 and from Australia, and until just two years ago had never encountered another Rochelle. Throughout school it was unique and different, and yet not so extremely outrageous to be ridiculed by it. I do however dislike the pronunciation of ıROW-chelleı with a hardened emphasis on the start. Rather, I pronounce it as it you are sounding out the letter ıRı followed by the ıchelleı. Those closest to me call me Chelle, so I imagine because of this I have steered clear of highlighting the ıRoı and have for most part avoided the mispronunciation (at least for me) and nicknames such as Rocky and Roach. Although often called Michelle or Rachel by new people, nobody tends to get it wrong the second time around, once corrected. Plus, I love the femininity and prettiness of the name to never want to change it." Dec. 19, 2009:
"Hi my name is Rochelle. In SA you do not often find people with this name. I know of only 2 people. I love my name, it is not very popular, it is strong and meaningful." Dec. 17, 2009:
"Hi. My name is Rochelle and I love it, always have. True, kids used to tease me with the name roach, but, hey, kids always tease each other. Since I was in high school, I have been called Ro and that name has kinda stuck as a nickname, but I love the full name Rochelle." Dec. 5, 2009:
"My name is Rochelle, like alot of the Rochelles on here people often mispronouce it and say 'Row-chelle' or simply just mistaken the R for a M. Most people actually know me by Shelly Belly, Shellz,Roch, Ferrero Rocher(yh i kno, lol my crazy aunts call me that)and just simply Shelly. I also love the meaning of it 'little rock' as it describes me as i am small but very strong am also a bit mad too lol. Ive met quite a few Rochs that are aswell." Oct. 12, 2009:
"My middle name is Rochelle and I started using it after college instead of my first name just to change it up a bit. I love it!! People call me Roo for short or roo roo." Aug. 25, 2009:
"My name is Rochelle and I live in England, United Kindgom. My nickname is often chelle. Rochelle is very popular i never knew until now." Jun. 8, 2009:

"My name is Rochelle and the older i get the more i like it. When i was younger i hated the name. I do understand the person that said" some people pronounce it so harsh"They pronounce it ROW-shell and that sounds harsh to me. I have meet a few Rochelle's not many, they are all so free spirited, down to earth and Funny. If you fall under these personality traits let me know. I was named after a Doctor that was being paged over the intercom during delivery , so that what mom wrote on the birth certificate. lol" Feb. 16, 2009:
"My name is Rochelle, and I've always been happy with it. But the funny thing is how in the U.S., people ask me if it's a French name, and when i'm in France, people ask me where my name comes from. Even though there is a city in France called La Rochelle, no one uses Rochelle as a first name. They actually think my name is Rachel, and I'm just trying to make it sound French by pronouncing it Rochelle!" Feb. 13, 2009:
"My name is Rochelle-Sarah and I love my name! only met a few people with the name so far which is great. my mom said she named me after some perfume she was given after she gave birth to me and im glad because not a lot of people have the name and everyone usually says its a cool name.usually get called 'roch' by my family and 'chelle/chelly' by my friends! woot! go team Rochelle!" "hi my name is Rochelle-Marie, im from England. I love my name and lots of people compliment it!" Jan. 7, 2009:
"I live on the West Coast, but grew up in North East Texas on the border of Louisiana. Louisiana was settled by the French, so having a French name was great. Most people asked me why I wasn't black because "Rochelle is a black name" I was told. (I'm half caucasian and half mexican.) What's funny about that is my mom was watching a christian program and named me after a black woman that was called to the stage. When I was younger I didn't like my name, but over time have only heard good things about my name. People mostly say they have never heard of "Rochelle" before and that it is a beautiful name. People on the West Coast need to learn more geography because New Rochelle of New York is on the map. And come to find out there are five towns in America that are named Rochelle. I hope to visit La Rochelle in France and all the Rochelle's in the U.S. I LOVE my name and it is very much a part of who I am. I wouldn't change it for the world. I have read several meanings of the name from the French version "little Rock" to the German version "Rest" and "Roar."
God Bless all of us Rochelle's. 8-)" Dec. 1, 2008:
"My french teacher wants us to choose French names, and I love Rochelle! I'm going to use it for sure." Oct. 13, 2008:
"I named my first daughter Rochelle and we call her Ro or Roro for short. I think its a beautiful and graceful name." Oct. 11, 2008:
"I love my name ive also heard that it can mean a female sheep too which is odd! Its really cool but i get called rochelly amd shelly alot which kind of annoys me. Its such a nice name because its not common you dont really here the name around alot. ROCHELLE PEOPLE ROCK!!!" Sep. 15, 2008:
"Rochelle is my middle name and I love it!!! Whoo Go Rochelle!! My friend calls me Rochelle because she gets me (Wendi) and her other friend (Whitney) confused lol." Aug. 14, 2008:
"Love being a Rochelle....such a pretty flowing name for a feminine girl! Love the fact that there is a place in France called La Rochelle, brings more romantic connotations! And love the seinfeld episode 'rochelle rochelle' brings a little humour! Love my name, not many people have it, in my travels through the world have not met another one so very happy! love it love it love it! mature and classy, pretty and feminine what more coulda girl want?!? and love my nicknames princess roch roch, rochie!" May. 20, 2008:
"My name is Rochelle and i love it , as it is unique and not a lot of people have the name. But the annoying thing is people call me either; rowshell, rashell or racelle.Or some people spell it like, roshell and it is double lle not just ll .ROCHELLE get it right!" May. 10, 2008:
"My name is Rochelle and I love it. My mom found the name in a french book she was reading when she was pregnant. Many people pronounce it wrong but I don't mind. I am now 38 years old and I am married with a last name of Aaron. I think it sounds so pretty - Rochelle Aaron. It just flows and I love this name and am so proud. It's unique and beautiful. We are lucky women to posess such a name." Apr. 20, 2008:
"Rochelle is the name I was given and one that I am proud to possess. Though my mom claims to have invented the name, it has such a unique quality yet it does not beg for attention (i.e. bizarre made-up Hollywood baby names.) Though the pretty french name doesn't sound so nice paired with my German last one (which is not of the romance languages and frankly quite harsh sounding), I will hopefully marry some Frenchman one day! Or at least non-German. I am 23 years old, and while I have run into the few dumbfounded individuals who can't understand why anyone would name their daugher such a peculiar name, most people tell me it is beautiful, classy, and downright sexy! ;)" Apr. 15, 2008:
"People compliment my name. I love it because it is an elegant/feminin/strong - which is a great combination. I am 37 now and have four children. Each of my children have unique/beautiful names (more so than Rochelle) and I hope they enjoy feeling special." Mar. 6, 2008:
"My name is Rochelle and i love it!! People sometimes pronounce or spell it wrong some times but i dont care!! it the best name!!" Feb. 25, 2008:
"its great its unique and one pronounced well people remember u" Jan. 31, 2008:
"People often think it is Rachael. I always attempt to pronounce it Ro-shell (accenting the O) I love my name but I am dissapointed that all it means is "little rock" like the name doesn't stand on it's own. Unfortunatly I AM a little "ROCH" which is my older brothers name, or I am the female Roch.
I purchased a poster at the mall one Christmas years ago when my son was 5 which went into detail of my sons name and all the characteristics of "Aaron". It was so right on, but I didn't know at the time that it would actually be his character and personality. I was hoping to find something like that on the internet because those people haven't set up in the mall kiosks for the last five years.
Someone asked me today...What does your name mean? I couldn't answer the way I could if they asked what does Aaron mean! It left me curious! Other than the feminine of my brother...what does it mean on it's own? I still feel it is a beautiful name, I am grateful for it, everyone I introduce myself to say "what a beautiful name. Also, it beats the hell out of Brittany, Ashley, Tiffany....wouldn't you say?
Rochelle" Jan. 16, 2008:
"i love i tis my name....pronounced RO-SHELL.....people generally get it right. i think people usually assume that persons named rochelle are conscientious and prob some wat conservative. people love the name, its easy to trasit from callin a child rochelle and callin an adult rochelle, unlike other names that kinda sound weird calling a little kid yvonne or calling and adult kimberly...or maybe thats jus me...." Jan. 2, 2008:
"my name is rochelle and every says its a beautiful name!" Dec. 1, 2007:
"People speall it Rachel. Some people pronounce it ROW SHELL (I hate that) It is Rae Shell, Not ROW SHELL." Nov. 23, 2007:
"My name is ROCHELLE and I love it i am only 19 so i dont have much experience. with wrong name pronouncing but they do spell it wrong I get rochel or rochell. Other than that my friends call me "ROCHE" i like. It a cool name people like it wherever i go and most importantly I love it. A name is only what you make it out to be. I believe in living up to a good name. So when you die and you here ROCHELLE you know the personality behind that name. Especially if your name is unusual like mine." Oct. 8, 2007:
"Most of the people i have met with the name rochelle are my age late 1980's but i ask people if they have heard of my name and about 50% say yes. most rochelles iv met are spelt different like Re... OR Ra... the Ra being the most popular. although through out my schooling i have been called rachel, michelle most anoying!! i love my name because its french and is the title of one of the last art gallerys Renuar had i belive my name makes me feel creative!!" Jul. 24, 2007:
"Rochelle is smoking-hot! Especially with my French last name and the correct French pronciation (RO-SHELL, not RI-SHELL or RAH-SHELL), quite a few people I've met think there's a subtle sexiness or feminine mystique surrounding it. A toast to all of us strong and sexy Rochelles around the world!
P.S. to the person who wrote about the Japanese characterization of the name, I love the imagery each syllable/character invokes like picture, poem, flow, nomad, and gothic elements. We are all "Poetry/Art in motion" ;-)" Apr. 25, 2007:
"Rochelle is a beautiful name. I really don't know how people could pronounce Rochelle as 'Rachel'. I mean the ending resembles, but hello! There's an 'o' after the R. NOT an 'a'! So really, how could someone get it wrong?? And the nick name roach is stupid. The 'ch' sound is not even the same even if it looks like it." Feb. 1, 2007:
"I love my name! Although having been raised as a tomboy I often go by Ro. My grandmother used to call me "Roshelly" and I hated it. A few people have nicknamed me.... Roshi, Rocky, Rowie--all of them are definitely terms of endearment. Rochelle is a beautiful name!" Jan. 17, 2007:
"i knOw my name is supposed to have a beautiful meaning,,, but what is it???" Dec. 29, 2006:
"I love my name although I've gone by Shelly all my life. I just passed the name on to my daughter born August 9. She is Kaley Rochelle. I like the pronounciation Ra-shell." Oct. 5, 2006:
"The only unfortunate part about having the name Rochelle (I like to think of it as RUSH-ELLE)is that foolish folks think I'm a Rachel or Michelle - an absolute insult to what I consider a fantastic unique name! I love my name in that it is feminine without suggesting I am a bimbo and that it carries both an element of strength (roche = rock in french) and softness (elle). Beware, however, that the name can be easily abbreviated to "Roach"! Otherwise, rock on, Rochelles!" Aug. 26, 2006:
"My Name is Rochelle and I pronounce it ROW-SHELL. I love my name, I'm not a Rachell!! or a Michelle!! I don't see many people with my name. A lot more Rachelles or Rashelle or Roshelle... but never Rochelle. LOVE IT!" Apr. 26, 2006:
"my name is Rochelle i luv it, people are like i have not heard of that i like that, it a really girly name to me any way, the one thing i hate is when be call me michelle its Rochelle get it right plz and thanx" Apr. 8, 2006:
"Hey, I, too, am a Rochelle and I luv my name. Not only is it unique, but it also has a nice ring to it when you say it. One funny story about my name is that although my parents named me Rochelle, the hospital spelled my name wrong on the birth certificate (Rachelle)!" Feb. 5, 2006:
"hello to all my girls out their with the same fantastic name as me (Rochelle, pronounced Roshelle)my great grandad blessed blessed me with this name as when he was in the war he visited a place in france called la rochelle and sed it was beautiful like me :p im from the UK and not many people have the same name so its good to no im not the only1 even though i like to be an individual x x x" Jan. 8, 2006:
"Hey my name is Rochelle and is pronounced Rosh-elle, my mother is from mauritius and is french speaking so it has a flare when i pronouce it. i just have to say that i love my name and found that it attracts many people. Some family friends have even asked my parents for the name to call there daughters Rochelle. Being a Rochelle is fun and different i love my name!!!" Aug. 5, 2005:

"Rochelle is my name and I've had this name for 47 yrs now. I love my name. I believe it's the best name out there. When I was in elementary I met a little boy named Rochelle and was very surprised but happy at the same time. A boy with the same name as mine so cool." Dec. 5, 2015:
"My name is obviously Rochelle. It goes Rochelle Leah... and I've never been unhappy with it. I love it, and love the significance of it. I've only met one other girl with the same name. I come from Canada, so it's not too popular. My friends all love it and think it's very unique and beautiful..... When people ask if I wish I had a different name.... I can honestly say I don't! X)
I come from an area that pours nicknames out like a waterfall, so I have a million nicknames whether they apply to Rochelle or not. The ones that do however are: Rusha(Alernate spelling is Russia... long story!), Rochy (SH), Ro, Shell, ShellBell, Shashelly, Rochelley, Cowbell, Rush.
People often pronounce it with an "U" sound as in Cup. But also pronounce it with a long "A" and a long "O". I prefer the Short "U" sound for some reason.....
Never have really liked the A pronunciation.... :/
I'm 16, and have always appreciated my name, never have gotten teased.... actually that's a lie. I have four brothers and my sister's name is Esther which means "Star" so combining our names they called us "Little Rockstar"..... For some reason I hated it. Now, I don't really care what they call me as long as it's not late for dinner. ;)
Since the age of 12, I've never really cared what people think of me, and so having the name Rochelle didn't effect my social status. It's beautiful, has a wonderful, encouraging meaning, and is perfect for my personality. :)" Dec. 31, 2014:
"My name is Rochelle Denise from Canada and growing up it drove me crazy when people pronounced it Rawchelle! Or Rachel because last I looked there was no A in my name lol. I used to also get Roach from Hell. I hated it then because of that and not being able to find name plates at the store. I liked that I was always the only one with that name though.
Once in my Church we had an amazin boom of them though. The pastor's wife was Rachelle, there was another girl in my youth group that was Richelle and there was a mom that was Rochelle!!" Apr. 19, 2013:
"Honestly I hate my name I do not look like a Rochelle at all I want to get it changed to Valerie" Aug. 12, 2012:
"For some reason my mom decided to spell my name RoEchelle. Not only is it hard enough getting Roechelle pronounced correctly but for some reason the extra E throws everyone off. i used to wish my name was Sara just so I could get the name plates like all the other kids did, but all in all I like my name a bit unusual for a white girl but hey I got an atitude :)" Jun. 30, 2012:
"I agree with a previous comment. I am learning to embrace my name, but i prefer it to be with the R leading into the chelle. The O is sometimes too strong the way people use it." Feb. 8, 2012:
"Hello! My name is not Rochelle, but i know someone with this name. Contrary to the info given by Rochelle of the Philippines who was named by her Mom after "Rochelle del Carmen", said Rochelle del Carmen was a popular singer in the Philippines in mid 70s til early 80s. She was never a model." Jul. 4, 2011:
"As you can see my name is Rochelle as well. Many people called me roach so I didnt answer. Who likes to be called a nasty bug that lives in small spaces. My friends call me "Chelly Belly" and I love it." Apr. 26, 2011:
"My name is Rochelle. I guess I like it well enough. I love that I do not meet a lot of other Rochelle's but hate that people often mispronounce it. In school sports teammates would shorten my name to 'Roach' for me to pass them the ball. Being called a bug that disgusts a majority of people most definitely was not going to make them pass the ball.
My name was shortened by friends to Shelly which I liked but they then shortened my nickname to Shell. I don't know what it was but I just didn't like it spelt that way. So I took of the 'Ro' of my original name and started spelling it 'Chelle' it soon caught on. I believe when I am about 20+ I will begin referring to myself as Rochelle, but at the present time Chelle is just so much more me :D" Apr. 11, 2011:
"People my associate the name with African Americans because a lot of African Americans come from French influenced areas, such as Louisiana. I also get that. I too was named after the perfume, which was popular in the 70's. Used to hate getting called "roach" or "roach motel" as a kid, but now love the name. Usually go by "ro" or "chelle belle", sometimes still get called "roch" by teasing friends or family." Mar. 4, 2011:
"My middle names "Rachelle" so its pronounced the same but spelt with an a instead hehe. I personally love the name, i think its nice:)" Jan. 15, 2011:
"For anyone out there thinking of naming their baby girl Rochelle - I definitely recommend it! Im 'Rochelle' with the emphasis on the 'chelle', when I heard my parents shout out 'RO - chelle' (with the emphasis on the 'ro') I knew I was in trouble for not cleaning my room etc... Here in South australia, 40 years later, my name is cool and unusual. Boys dig it because it is feminine and unique, girls dig it because they wish they had it...." Jul. 20, 2010:
"Hi, my name is Ruchelle. I think it's stupid how nobody ever spells thier name the way mine is. Everybody spells my name wrong and it's stupid." May. 3, 2010:
"Hi Rochelle's, I'm Rochelle too :) I've generally always liked my name, well except for that Mary-Kate & Ashley phase where I wanted to be named Riley... But anyways, it's a cool name, unusual to hear around the parts of Sydney where I live and everyone is generically named :| and quite beautiful. I get all different nicknames like Chelle, Chelly, Ro, Rosh, Roshy, Chellybelly, Chellybear, Rocky, Chocolate (because of Fererro Roche) and yeah ofcourse Roach but as the name goes, even though it's a little rock like all rocks it's strong :D Love and Peace and whatnot." "Rochelle Renee here...not sure if I like it or not! People tell me it sounds poetic." Aug. 27, 2009:
