"I was named after my grandmother Luella who was born in 1880 in Maine. I have always liked my name though in high school I shortened it to Lu, thinking it was cooler. I went back to Luella as an adult. Everyone seems to remember it because it is unusual. Hoping someone in the family will use it again.." Mar. 31, 2017:

"My middle name is Luella. I was named after my Godmother whose name was Luella. She was French Canadian. I had a daughter and I then gave the name to her as her middle name. I like it a lot. Not many people have heard of it and if they have they think of Louella Parsons...... A lot of people call me MaryLou............" Jul. 30, 2010:
"This name is apparently an old greek mythology name, meaning 'famous female warrior' prettty cool" Feb. 4, 2010:
"going to name my daughter this beautiful feminine name. I think it is defiantely one to watch out for on the popularity charts. I am going to spell it Louella (as I think people will intuitively think of louise or Lou)." Oct. 27, 2009:
"I named my daughter Luella. "The girls" were dicussing baby names at work and a co-worker mentioned a relative named Luella. I had never heard of it and instantly fell in love with it. It's unique (without being completely out there) and feminine. The name seems more prominent in the South." Jan. 24, 2009:
"This is my grandmother's name, also my aunt's name. My aunt has always hated it and thought it was an old-fashioned name, but I think it might be old-fashioned enough to make a come-back now. Similar sounds to the extremely popular "Lily"." Jun. 13, 2006:
"was my Momma's name and for sure never heard anyone with the same name...think it is quite pretty myself
many differnt ways people try to spell it for sure" Jan. 30, 2006:

"This is my first name. And, I hated it for the first 18 years. EVERYBODY mispronounces it to this very day. I usually just go by Lu. People still have to ask twice when I introduce myself, but it's those three syllables that seem to mess people up. It unfortunately rhymes with Cruella, as in Cruella Devil from 101 Dalmations (hate that movie, kids used to dance around me at school singing the Cruella Devil song). Now that I'm older, I do like it a little bit, but introducing myself to people is always an ordeal because of my stupid name. It's so sad, because it really is a unique and lovely name. But, it takes a very strong woman to bear it, because people are ill-educated and cannot appreciate the complex beauty of the name!" Apr. 7, 2011:

this is my first name. I have received many compliments with this name, but I agree, the pronunciation and spelling is usually asked for twice. I am contemplating renaming myself "Ella"" Jul. 13, 2016:
"This is my name. My grandmother's name as well. My mom was going to name me something else but thought I was strong. So she named me Luella. Yes, you have to be strong to be Luella. If you name a weakling Luella, they will complain about their name. So think twice about it, if you think there strong name them accordingly if not try Bella or something." Feb. 11, 2015:
"It is unique and feminine. I was named after "Louella Parsons". I appreciate the fact that it is uncommon and can make you feel like an original. But be prepared for potential problems when a child has this name. I was called "Loretta, Lou-Anna, Louisa, Lola, ...." for instance. This has affected my self-esteem growing up, because I would be referred to as "that girl" or "I forgot her name". Not an easy name for others to remember for some reason, maybe due to having 3 L's in the name. Now, I am planning to legally change it to a name I can identify with better." Aug. 9, 2014:
"My name is Luella and I love it. I was named by my father. I think the Name helped to build my character. It does get misspelled a little but it makes for good conversation. It gets commented on regularly. When my name is googled it comes up with a lot of obituaries due to it's popularity in the 1900s. Here I am @ www.luellawidt.com" Oct. 26, 2011:
"this is my middle name as LuElla...was also both of my grandmothers names...LuElla for ones first name
and louella for the others middle." Aug. 31, 2009:
"i can't decide between luella marie and kyllar hazel josephine for my first born. i like them both so much!" Sep. 25, 2008:
"My mom has this name. People do say it wrong often. I have never heard it before either, dont mind it. Makes her special." Dec. 8, 2006:
