"I love my name. My mother was very intentional about finding a name that's not too common, and stumbled upon "Luana" by accident. I pronounce it "Lu-Ah-na". A dear friend from Hawaii told me that 'Luana' is where one goes to have joy and peace. I'm a social worker, so I guess my name was prophetic!" Mar. 26, 2018:
"Hi my name is Lewanna. My grandmother on my mommas side of the family gave me that name. I love my name and i always have. She told me it meant beautiful flower. She is also my favorite grandmother." Jun. 23, 2016:
"I named my only daughter LUANA. I search for a loooong time wile pregnant, I wanted a very special name for my precious one. I wanted a simple, uncommon name but more important, a name with a special meaning. Since I'm Hispanic wanted something attach to the Hispanic roots so I search on Hispanic native names & there it was. Luana: meaning "the most beautiful and cheerful of the tribe". And I'm happy I choose that name because she is actually beautiful and cheerful. She's 7 years old and she was happy about her name until she had this homework about names. She had to write about the history of her name so wile searching on the internet we found out so much information, interested of course. I'm glad she had that homework because now she knows how special her name is. Congratulations to all of you Ladys Luanas. By the way she gets called other names too but I like when she says "it's LUANA" in a strong, clear, loud but polite & suite voice. Finally we get lots of complements for the name." Sep. 16, 2015:
"My name is Luana and yes it has been pronounced and written all kinds of ways Lu-Ann, Luwanna, Lou-Anna and have even been called Luwanda :-( But I am grateful to have this name it is uncommon and quite beautiful. My mother worked for a circus in the 1940's and her best friend was a Hawaiian hula dancer whom she named me after. I love my name, unique and not a harsh name and one although uncommon is rarely forgotten. I am 57 now and people are still amazed to hear my name. To date I have never met anyone else with the same name and am quite happy to know that I have a unique and uncommon name. I leaned toward uncommon names with my daughters Leilani, Yazmin and Victoria (not really uncommon but not used as much today)." May. 16, 2015:
"The name of my one love! When we are distant and I stare at the moon I think of her. I love saying her name and simply saying it Lu. Or how we would extend vowels in Brasil, Luuuuu!
It resembles to me caring, embracing, warrior for her beliefs. Just saying it makes me happy.
I'm her Ju and she is my Lu.
Blessed are the ones with such a name." Feb. 17, 2015:
"My friend is called Luana. But she never gets caled that. It's mainly Lulu or Luna." Jun. 28, 2012:

"People most often pronounce my name wrong when they first hear it, but when I correct them to say it the right way they always say that it's a beautiful name. One they've never heard before. A Hawaiian woman once told me it means "warrior princess of the Island." I love my name!!!" Sep. 11, 2009:

"My name is Luana, I was born in Brazil and here it is a common name, I did not know that in non-Portuguese speaking countries it also existed, I always loved my name and I am very proud of it (excuse me for horrible English, I do not know English very well and I have That use translator)" Jun. 14, 2017:
"Hello, my name is also Luana. Like so many others, I was called funny names by kids in grade school. But, as much as people made fun of my name others complimented it just as much. Many found "Luana" unique and beautiful. I love my name. When I was 21-years-old I was working at a bank when I noticed the name of the woman I was helping. She had my name and it was spelled the same way. She didn't believe me when I told her my name was the same as hers. When she finally realized that we had the same name she told me that it meant "Warrior Princess of the Island." I said, you mean to tell me that when people asked me what my name meant I could have been saying that the entire time. lol. I love my name and I wouldn't change it for the world." Feb. 21, 2015:
"I too have had my name mispronounced and miss spelled my entire life. I never met another Luana until I was 40 years old. I have not met another one and I am 48 now.
Upon first meeting meet people get very confused at the pronunciation. I usually just say it's pronounced like iguana except with Lu instead of ig. When I was in school my friends would sing to me, "Luana do you wanna,go down to Tijuana, with Lola Falona, to get some marijuana, and eat some barbecued iguana?"
Love my name. Suits me perfectly to have something unique <3" Nov. 1, 2014:
"I was born in Hawaii, 1940, given the name Luana, but didn't actually use it or get called that until I was 35 years old. I've been called lots of things over the years including: LuLou, Luanne, Luanna, Louie, LoLann, Lou, Lana. It has been spelled a bunch of bizarro different ways. The more interesting one was LuJuanna. I don't care if people mispronounce it. I introduce myself differently with different people. For close friends, especially little kids, I say I'm LuLou, because my middle name is Louise. Hardly anybody knows my last name or will even try to pronounce it, it being Alika. Luana Alika is too hard to put it all together. It has prevented me from being chosen for jury duty, as the lawyers usually get to my last name and give up. Too bad, I always wanted to serve on a jury, but now I'm too old (they say). I like my name, and I like the flexibility of having lots of different names. I'm really surprised there are so many Luana's! When I got to the place I'm presently living, 25 years ago, there were 5 Luana's here. Amazing. I had never met one before. One was evidently a "bad" girl, because for a long time when I said what my name was people shied away from me. Ah, and all I ever wanted was a pleasant life, filled with joy, which is why my Mom named me Luana. It was fun to read all your messages about being Luana!" Aug. 25, 2010:
"Luana is also a name for a graceful warrior princess in old German. This is the name of Countess Luana who is the daughter of Prince Frisco of Holland." May. 17, 2010:
"I have had many nicknames, Louie, Wannie and yeah I also get the "do you wanna". I was named after the movie star Luana Patton from the movies, song of the South and So dear to my heart. I was born in 1961 and I was told by many that my name is a Hawaiian. It is "pronounced lu-on-ah," Jun. 1, 2009:

"Most often I am called Laura, because it looks the same shape at a quick glance. I've also been Louella, Loretta (???), and Lahwanna. There's a town in Iowa named Luana, pronounced Lou-ay-na, which I also get quite often. There was a movie star named Luana Patton in the late 40's early 50's. Rhymes with Iguana and "You wanna?", in case you want to prepare your daughter. Wasn't sure I love the first meaning I was told--graceful battle maiden ;) Didn't like being so different when I was a child, really like it now." Jun. 2, 2008:
"pronounced lu-on-ah, not lu-ann-ah (ew), not lu-ann,and def not Lu-ann-wa." Jul. 6, 2006:
