I am part native american Mingo (mingwee) the 18th century WV. I named her Kya becuase natively it means trees in bloom or high blossom. She loves her name and it's uniqueness. Many still have trouble with it, most called Kia.

We were going to name her Alena Julaine, but after hearing so many versions of Alena (ex. Alayna, Elaina, Elena..) I wanted something different.
My boyfriend actually picked this name. I fell in love with it right away!! :) Kyah, we pronounce like SKY but without the "Y" and and -AH at the end. Rhymes with Mya. I added the silent "H" at the end because I felt 3 letters was too short of a name.
We're going to call her "Ky" for short :)

My parents are completely unaware of why they picked that name, although I used to thinki was named after my grandma's niece, Kaia- it is pronouced the same as my own name. I have actually met around 5 or 6 people with my name, but not a single one is spelled the way mine is. It makes me feel unique, but at the same time blended in. I love it, but i wish people would stop seeing my name tag and saying "well thank you, kee-ya (that beeing how they pronouced it)" really people! its not spelled like the car and it is not said like the car!" When i was in labour with her a south african lady said that in the part she was from Kya meant "home" which i thought was lovely but i have seen lots of posts on here saying it means "diamond in the sky" i think that is absolutley beautifull!!
