  • "My name is Janice. I was born in 1974. I didn't meet other Janice's until I was in my 30's. I have a friend named Janice also who is about 8 years younger than me maybe...my mother's name was Janet, so I got far more Janet's than most I imagine. Happens a lot. I hate Janis and hate Jan. I love my name in that it is unique, but not weird...if that makes any sense. My middle name is Natalie and I love that too. Both of my names are used often as my parents let family call me either. It seems though, the younger geneation called me Janice while the older generations call me Natalie." Apr. 11, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1991, so it was well after it peaked. I always loved how no one else would have my name, and I never had a problem of people having to call me by my last name's initial or anything like that. A lot of people do misunderstand and think that my name is Janet, or misspell it, but I still love my name." Dec. 8, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I'm a Janice born in 1976. I love my name. I didn't have anot her Janice in school with me, not only in my class bu in any classes above or below me. If someone said "Hey, Janice!" I knew they were talking to ME. I work in a dental office meeting new people daily and I still rarely come across another Janice. People ask me often if they can call me Jan. My response to that is... not if you want me to answer. :)" Oct. 17, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1957. To me the name has a youthful happy sound to it. For some reason my parents didn't use it and called me by my middle name, Lynn. However, when my friends and colleagues call me Janice I like hearing it." Sep. 18, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name Janice. I was born in 1951 and I always hated when people called me Janet or spelled my name Janis." Jul. 3, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1964. I didn't mind my name too much when I was younger and came across a few Janice's in my class at school. I've grown to like it more as I've become older. I'm suprised more don't like it as I think it ticks a few boxes and is a well rounded name. I wonder what made it suddenly so popular in the 1940's?" May. 19, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice, and it was routinely mistaken for Janet. Until "The Sopranos" came along; since then I correct them by saying, Janice, like on The Sopranos!" Mar. 20, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1946, the year before it peaked. Even when I was in school, I was the only Janice, except for a young man with Yugoslavian heritage whose name was Jan (pronounced Yan). It's been unique all my life and like others on this list, I hate it when called Janet. It would be nice if people really listened when being introduced. Even when someone is addressing me after reading my name on a written page, they are 85% likely to call me Janet." Apr. 2, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "my name came from my father I used to hate it but it is very rare and pretty now that I like it a whole lot better than what I use to. I was born in 1964." Jul. 19, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1983. When I was young, I used to tell my mom I was going to change my name when I was an adult; now that I am in my twenties, I absolutely love my name. It is a very rare name for my generation, and it has completely grown on me. Now I always tell my mom how much I appreciate the uniqueness of my name... the only other Janice's I have ever met have been 30 or 40 years older than me, which makes sense because this is when it was popular." Jul. 6, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1966. I absolutely love my name. It's never misspelled. Once in a while someone thinks they heard me say "Janet", but I correct them. If anyone shortens it to "Jan", I let them know that I prefer "Janice". It's a pretty, feminine name, and I feel unique. I'm very happy with my name and highly recommend it!" Jun. 25, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "This was my mother's name. She was born in the late 40's. She never liked the name. She felt it was boring and old-fashioned. I always liked it, probably because my mother was a wonderful woman and a cool mom." Aug. 18, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "My wife's name is Janice. I think it is a very pretty name. If my wife charactureizes the name it is someone who is very loving, thoughtful, giving, disciplined and kind. It was more common during the 40's when she was born. Very rarely do we meet anyone with the same name but when we do it creates a mini event." Mar. 28, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "It isn't as common nowadays and it's difficult to date so I'm happy with my name. I don't often come across another Janice." Dec. 10, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "My mothers name - she always says it means "gift from god" though - maybe she was just boosting her ego!! :)" Sep. 1, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I was born in 1990. No one I know shares the experience of being dubbed a 'Janice' so I'm glad I can share it with you all! My mom used to tease me and call me Janny-panty. (ugh!) I've always hated Jan (every character named Jan is always some uptight executive woman) and I don't like Janet. (Dammit Janet!) Im happy to have a unique name, I just wish it had a prettier tone to it. I remember being teased about my name by a Lilly and her friend Annalisa." Jul. 15, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice - I was born in 1961. I hated my name as a child because I never knew anyone else with this name. All my friends had the "cool" names like Cindy, Kathy, Debbie, Kristy, Patty, etc. After college I shortened it to Jan and have been Jan ever since - I really like the name Jan because it's short, easy to spell and pronounce." Jul. 15, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was the only Janice around my neighborhood as a child. I wasn't crazy about it because all my fiends had common names and I didn't feel like it fit. Rarely came across any others through adult hood until now! I live between two other Janice's. Three homes in a row. How does that happen? I am the oldest of the three and born 1951. Never realized it was so popular during that year. It still sounds foreign to my ears. Don't know how else to describe it. I don't hate it but I've never "felt" it either." Jul. 10, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice. I like the name because it is not that common and not so rare that people can't prounce it correctly. Rather than being called Janet, some people have called me Jan." Oct. 27, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1952 and love my name Janice. My brother Jim named me. He was 6. Mother was going to call me Martha. Ugh. I don't like to be called Jan." Jun. 7, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "I never liked my name, but in 2016 I am seeing many people have this name!" Apr. 10, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1975. I tell my friends that my parents were hippies and named me after Janis Joplin. People who know me and my family know that I'm just kidding. My parents are far from hippies! I have similar issues. People mispronounce my name by calling me Janet or Jenise (sounds like Denise but with a J). I wouldn't have chosen Janice, but do appreciate that it isn't very common." May. 17, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice. I was born in 1960. It's not a unique or uncommon name, nor is it overly common. I used to work in a call center, and it was common for people on the phone to think that I said "Janet" and then I'd have to correct them, but I haven't found this to be as common in person, though it does happen. Usually people only have to be corrected once, but there have been a few people in my life who can't get it straight and continue to call me Janet. So that is one annoying aspect of the name. I'm fairly neutral about my name, it isn't the best and it isn't the worst. It's now very dated and people think of it as an "old lady name", which is one reason that I always advise against using popular names---all popular names will be dated some day. When I can put myself back to about 1930, when Janice was fresh and new and not dated, I can see its appeal." May. 14, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was born in 1968. I never really liked my name much - it feels quite dated and frumpy to me!" Jul. 12, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "My Mom's name is Janice and she was born in 1953. She absolutely HATES it when people call her 'JANET'. Only her close friends call her Jan and her parents (or her Dad did before he died) called her Janny(Banan-y)" Jan. 7, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My dad picked out my name back in 1985 when I was born, I love it. Its unique just like me and I wouldnt change it for the world! My Family calls me Jan, My friends call me Janice and strangers usually call me Janet or Janesse... which from reading other ladies comments thats pretty common. I Have only met one other girl around my age with the same name, But I've ran across a few older woman with the same name, And they all seem to be very sweet:) Its in our nature! Haha" Oct. 13, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "It is rare that I meet others with the same name as mine.my name is spelled janice.others spell my name many different ways with an "is" on the end or pronounce my name as janet or on rare occasions even spelled and pronounce as "janesse" which sounds exotic so I don't mind.I actually like my name and woudn't trade it for anything My middle name is margaret. Now that name is a whole other issue with spelling and pronouncement!" May. 7, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "Many people think my name is Janet as well. Some call me Jan. My family calls me Janny. I never have really liked my name." Feb. 10, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "People either call me Jane or Janet. But most folks call me Jan. My best and closest friends call me Janny I think my name fits me it is short and sweet" Oct. 24, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Janice and I neither love nor hate it. I was born in 1960, so I came along at the tag end of its popularity. It's pretty much on a par with Diane or Linda or any of the other names that were popular in the 50s. My only real objection to it is that its so twentieth century. I would rather have been given an older, classic name. The name Janice was coined in 1899 by Paul Leicester Ford for his novel Janice Meredith which was very popular at that time. Name books will tell you its a variation of Jane since he obviously took the name Jane and added the ICE ending. I wonder if fifty years from now it will come back in style." • "My grandmother's name is Janice. She was born in thr 40s when it was really popular." Aug. 15, 2007: Report as inappropriate
