"I love my name as I have gotten older. Some people, old friends and siblings call me Dorie. People butcher my name, Dorleen or Doleen!!" Jul. 15, 2019:
"I love it! The meaning "Gift from God" has always resonated with me, as I was born 4 days after my mother's birthday and the day before my father's birthday. In a way, I suppose I was somewhat of a gift to them both. My grandmother picked out my name; she named me after a girl she knew in Jamaica where she is from. My mother and sisters all refer to me as "Dori", but my father, husband, and all of my acquaintances call me Doreen. Sometimes people struggle with the pronunciation. When I was a child I wasn't fond of the name, but I have grown to love it. I think it is absolutely beautiful." Jan. 23, 2016:
"Love this name. It's unusual but not ridiculously hard to spell or pronounce. I read that the name was invented by author Edna Lyall for her 1894 book, "Doreen: The Story of a Singer." During the 1920's in England it was in the top 10." Oct. 12, 2010:
"Until I moved to my current town,I never knew more than 1 Doreen at a time. At last count, there are 5 of us in a town of 6000." Feb. 26, 2010:
"What's great about my sister's name, Doreen, is that there are few people with the name. Therefore, even in a large city, if you hear someone mention the name Doreen, then it's probably the same person. When she was a little girl, she went by Dori. Life can be easier when you have a less common name, as compared to a lot of Jen's I now...they go by Jen 1, Jen 2 and Jen 3 believe it or not. ;)" Nov. 3, 2009:
"My name is Doreen and I have only met one other person with the same name and read it only once too, and as a sinister old lady who likes to stab people with knitting needles, but I am only a decade and a half old so I still have many people to meet and I am always on the look-out. It may sound like I am complaining, but that is not the case, I happen to like my name and others do too, they say it is pretty and unique...pretty unique, and I like that. It's very frustrating when people misspell it though, but i guess that comes with not having an everyday name like Lisa (no offense to the other Lisas out there) people don't mispronounce the name... or not Americans, but my family is of Mexican descent and they insist on calling me Dora. I just tend to smile and shrug. I love my name and was named after a very nice nurse. I plan to go into the medical field and hopefully I will become someone who is special enough (like my nurse) to have someone named after me too." Dec. 27, 2006:

""I too am a Doreen, and have always been surprised how unusual the name is. I am of Hispanic decent and have always been curious how my parents chose my name. It turns out I was named after the nurse that attended my mom during my birth - funny, I read someone else had the same experience. I was Dori to my parents, and Dor to my friends. I also love that it is Gaelic!" May. 13, 2020:
"my name is doreen i love my name because my mom named me after his name dorcus bcs i am speical, loverly, beautiful, caring when ever i go people love me because am interigenite people love me so much." Oct. 11, 2018:
"I love my name and know my parents named me an uncommon name because they thought I was special. It sounds like I?m bragging but the Golden part applies to my name by the Golden green eyes I have and gold (blonde) color hair. (Born blonde.) And I?m a singer and actress. My mother told me I was named after an actress, but I know not who. People often say it?s a beautiful name when they hear it. And ?Gift from God? is what my loving parents had in mind. But I never knew that until I read it from someone else?s message. Wish they were here to ask. I very distinctly remember my mother never allowing anyone to call me anything else, meaning no nickname or shortening it. I never let anyone who ever tries to either. There is no nickname for Doreen. So I?m a happy woman with my name. I gave my daughter an uncommon name also which I loved, but not a crazy name. I love my uniqueness including being left-handed." "I pronounce my name dereen ,but now I think dohreen is probably the correct way" Jul. 1, 2017:
"This happens to be my name. I spell it Doreen. I personally love my name. Its different, unique, classy and has an old world charm to it. I am 39 years old and I have gotten many compliments through out the years. I love the meaning "Gift of God". I love that is is not a common name everyone has. I've always felt my name is beautiful." Nov. 21, 2014:
"The trouble with being named Doreen is that people never remember it; upon seeing them a second time they refer to me as " Darlene", "Maureen" or even "Donna". It is very annoying. Otherwise I like my name. Thanks, Mom . XO" Oct. 16, 2014:
"It's french for golden... Altho I don't like my name as doreen... but it's ok. :)" Oct. 1, 2006:
"People have always spelled it wrong. They never completely butcher my name, they may just spell it with an i (dorine) or a (dorean). I rarely meet anyone with my name. When I do, the other person and I make a big deal about it because it so rarely happens. I met about three other doreen's in my life, and this besides hearing the name on TV, or reading seeing the name in a newspaper." Sep. 2, 2005:
