  • "I love my name Denise, now. I never used to when I was a teenager in the 80?s, I thought it sounded old fashioned and wished I?d been named Michelle, a more popular name of my generation. There were a couple of other Denise?s throughout my school years, we tended to be the more quiet, kind, conscientious, academic ones. Yes I heard the deniece and denephew jokes too, it was funny?ish the first time, after that mmm not so much. People who don?t know me well call me Diane or Debbie because it starts with the letter D lol. Nicknames: Denisey, Nisey, Peacey, Nise, and more lately, Dee. I love them all because it reminds me of the people who started them :)" May. 3, 2019: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name Denise, in school I did get called Dennis but I just went with it, in high school a lot of my friends would yell Dennis down the hall and I would always shout back Yo! Lol I like being called Dennis the menace mostly because I was lol, my close friends call me neecey or I spell it nisey, and my dad and brother always called me just 'Nise', I find it so funny when I hear De-nice lol it was a great skit on key and Peele, I love that my name is uncommon or an 'older name" I think it sounds mature and elegant." Sep. 20, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "I like my name. I usually get called Den or Denny by family and friends, which I also like. My Dads name was Dennis, and as 1st born, could have been named for him. When I was a kid, there were 3 Denise's on the same block{ early 60's} Now I don't hear it so often. Much like Marcy, which is my sisters name." Sep. 20, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Denise and i love it! My nickname is Denia and i love it too!" Aug. 8, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name Is Denise and I love it! I do sometimes get called Denis and I get kind of bothered by it but I'm used to it now. My sixth grade teacher called me "Denis with an E". I think my name is beautiful and feminine . And yes I have gone through the De-niece and de-nephew joke. If your looking for a baby name I think Denise is a great choice. Although you can't really have a nickname. :)" Nov. 17, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "Ok sompeople pernounce my name as denis or de-nice and when peple try to spell it it is so funny becuase they spell it like Denyc or Dinecs but i love my name" Nov. 8, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am Denise DeAnn and love it. I'm usually the only Denise around. and like that it's not a common name. Yes, I've heard the "deniece and denephew" joke a thousand times and a couple of guys in high school did call me Dennis. Ironic though...I am now engaged to a Dennis! :)" Oct. 26, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "Love it...no one I know shares it so I feel special! Always got the de niece and the de nephew jokes my whole life." Jan. 14, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I like my name, Denise, but truly hate the Denephew joke. I was called Deecee when I was little. I don't mind Neesy but only a couple of people call me that." Sep. 23, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name, you should too.. Every name is unique. I barely see anyone else with the same name. I never got called names either" Jan. 28, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "I used to get called Dennise the Menance but guess people have grown out of their childrish ways and have realised Denise and Dennis are two different names. I've never been teased by the 'Denephew' joke though. It's pretty immature if you ask me." Mar. 17, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "well my name is denise i like it because not alot of people will put that name that makes my name more uniq" Aug. 15, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "I like my name. It really is suprising how many people will pronounce it Dennis or have no idea on how to spell it. As a child I quickly adopted the nickname Niece and tend to go by that. The worst is introducing myself as Denise and being asked, "Where's De-nephew?"" Nov. 19, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "OOOOOOH MY GOD I had the same problem, with teachers calling me Dennis, that was my grandfather people! Not very many people seem to like Denise" Oct. 23, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "Even today, people will pronounce it "Dennis". My mom gave me the nickname (DeeDee)when I was younger. But I love my name! As I've gotten older, Denise sounds more elegant!" Mar. 21, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "Back in high school the first day of class I would always be called "Dennis", which was a little annoying, but hey, what's a girl gonna do :-)" Jun. 23, 2005: Report as inappropriate

  • "Growing up with the name Denise has led to many ?Dennis? ?Deniece? and ?Denephew? jokes, which I genuinely disliked as it made me feel like a boy? Silly; yes very. One teacher even called me Dennis not as a joke, he literally read it out as Dennis. I?ve had mutual feelings about name but now I?m starting to actually like it." Aug. 6, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Denise Elizabeth. I have always loved my name because my Father picked my first name and my middle name is my Mother's name.I was the only Denise in school until High School and there was one other girl named Denise. I gave it to my Daughter as a middle name. My nickname is Dede and I like that too!" Sep. 23, 2017: Report as inappropriate

  • "Denise is a nice name, though not that especially beautiful for me. Could be problematic for pronounciation and gender identification issues -- may be mispronounced as Dennis, or mistaken for a boy's name. Perhaps it would be more feminine if spelled as "Denisse"." Nov. 24, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "While as a very young child, I feared that people would think my name was Dennis and before actually meeting me, would think I was a boy. I have grown into my name, Denise; and now find it one of the prettiest, most feminine names names I've ever heard. Even as a child,I never was teased for having the name "Denise" as it appears that others were from some of the comments. Family calls me Dennie; business and academic associates call me Denise and so I always know a person's initial connection with me by whether they call me Denise or Dennie. Truly, a person's name is the first gift bestowed. I appreciate my name because I know that it was given to me with much thought, consideration, and love by my mother and father." Oct. 23, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "My Mom named me Denise Michelle. She named my brother Dennis Michael, and had one more son..Guess what she named him?..Michael Dennis! I dont hate my name, but dont love it either." Mar. 4, 2016: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am Denise Renee and also like my middle name better. My older brother was named Dennis so I hated being called Dennis. People can't read I guess. Always liked Renee so much better." Oct. 9, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I was named Denise because my Dad's name was Dennis. My mom called me Niecy when I was young. I did meet another person with my same Whole name! Wow! I luke the name." Jul. 31, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I hate being called Dennis when people try to read my name. The de nephew joke should be outlawed. I like my middle name better which is Renee." Apr. 12, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I don't mind my name, Denise, now that I'm older but people usually don't remember my name and I'm called Diane or Debbie a lot until they get to know me. Of course I got called Dennis and the "De-Niece - De-Nephew" joke along the way. I have met only a few other Denise's in my live. Now the new thing is to be called De NICE! lol" Mar. 24, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "I'm 21 and my middle name is Denise and it took me for ever to learn how to spell it cause where it's not common but that's why I love it cause I have only met one other person named Denise but she is in her 50s.. I got called Dennis in elem. school until everybody knew how to say it and I use to hate my middle name in elem. cause I couldn't spell it. I was in middle school before I learned how to spell it but the only way I ever heard my parents call me by Denise is when I was in trouble. I get asked how I got Denise as a middle name and I tell everybody that my mom liked it.. I have never got called de-niece or de-nephew.." Nov. 12, 2013: Report as inappropriate

  • "I got both of my names after a young actress and a famous voleyball player Fiorella Denis. In Peru, Denis is pronounced like Denise and I always like both of my names... but living here my first name is too hard to say and with Denis everybody calls me the boy name...." Jan. 23, 2011: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Robin Denise. I grew up with my family calling me Neecy. Now I identify how well people know me by what they call me: If you don't know me very well at all, you address me as Robin, if you know me and are a friend, you call me Denise, if you know me way more than you should, you call me "Neecy". It's an ok name, but I've never thought of it as very feminine or special. Also I find most Denises to be between the ages of 37 and 50, which definitely dates me. I almost named my daughter Denise, but decided on Sarah instead. I agree with the Denephew comments, so annoying." Nov. 19, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "I love my name Denise! born in '72 and it's been common enough that people know how to spell and pronounce, but not common enough that there are multiples at the office or in school. My nickname is Neesy or D, but most just stick with Denise. Yes, the "where's DeNephew" joke is terrible and only mentioned by really old guys." Oct. 18, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Denisse but my family calls me DENNIS (here in Ecuador not many people know thats a mans name), and my father decided not to put me a second name, because he though that i was not gonna like it, but when i turned 18 i will have a second name, i still dont know wich would it be because no many names fits with Denisse, i was thinking on "Einleen", Denisse Eileen. My grandma calles me Niss! an yeah people always missseapealled my name and confunce it." Oct. 4, 2010: Report as inappropriate

  • "As far as names go it could be alot worse I guess. In my area I am one of the few Denise around. I always wanted to change it when I was younger. I was looking for something cuter, like Kelly or Shawnda." Dec. 18, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "I've never really...LOVED my name, but I guess it's okay. Except for the occasional miss pronounciations. I STILL CANNOT understand how you can confuse DENISE with DENNIS. Do am not a boy. My sister calls me Dee and my mom calls me Nii friends make jokes callin me dennis or denis the menice, but i dont mind, I've gotten used to it over the years =\ Just recently they spelt my name wrong on a plane ticket to vietnam. They spelt it "Dinese MR" ...i didnt care about the spelling as much as how they called me a MAN >=\ haha things are straightened out though =)" Jun. 25, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Denise but my family always called me "Debbie" as my initials were DEB. At work or with people I don't know so well, I always use Denise. Sometimes when I say my name over the phone, they think I'm saying Janine for some reason. But I like my name." May. 7, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "I don't meet people named Denise. People of African descent tend to spell it differently than the traditional name. But I hate the joke about, "Where's DeNephew?". Many people mispronounce my name as Dennis, even though they can tell they are talking to a feminine, soprano voice like mine. I love my name because if is so much less common. People don't tend to forget it. Thanks, Mom." Jun. 24, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "Almost all Denise's I have met, tend to be reserved and have trouble overcoming their hangups. Nice people, just have confidence issues." Jun. 14, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "As a child, and at the beginning of the school year when teachers were taking attendance, they always mistakenly called the name "Dennis" when they got to my name. I found it embarrassing and annoying. As an adult, it doesn't happen much any more. Maybe people have finally figured it out. I have never really like my name because of this and it has never sounded very feminine to me either." May. 17, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "not common, but not weird, i liked my name growing up. but, i was often asked by older men if my brother's name was "de-nephew" --" Aug. 1, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "i like my name denise, but my mom calls me tapisee-prupeesee-mocheesee-piopeesee, she thinks its funny" Mar. 16, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "Nicknames are Dee or Neesy (I don't like the "Neesy" nickname - it's kinda cheesy if ya ask me). The name's ok, I guess, but I wanted to change it when I was in HS." Mar. 16, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "And there's always the old joke about "De-Niece" and "De-Nephew," which can get tiresome." Dec. 10, 2005: Report as inappropriate

  • "In High school I was called "Dennis the Menace" I hated it. I was given my name after my Father, Denis." Dec. 1, 2005: Report as inappropriate
