"Older relatives and childhood friends still call me Bobby, but my girlfriend at 16 (now my wife) always called me Bob. I NEVER refer to myself as Bobby, but allow the old habits to carry on.
My LEGAL signature is always Robert E.(+ last name).
But I ALWAYS felt that using Robert in the familiar or casual was very pompous--- I cringe when parents refer to their son as "Robert".
"Robert" was OK in school & University." Jul. 11, 2016:
"My sons name is Robert. He is 7 years old now. I like that it is no longer as common as it used to be. He was named after my little brother Robert who goes solely by Bob-0. My son goes by Bobby and is the only one at his school :)" Feb. 4, 2012:
"I married a Robert, we call him Rob. Our son is a Jr, we call him Bobby. My cousin also married a Robert, usually called Rob. My grandfather is a Robert, most people call him Bob or Bobby. My uncle is a Jr, everyone calls him Robby. So...Robert is very popular in our family! WHen we're all together we joke and call them by their numbers...example, our son is Bobby #5 :) Even with so mnay in one close family, there are so many variations that you can call one and he knows when to respond!" "My name is Robert. I was named after Gen. Lee who definitely was a hero of history when you're from Dixie. And I like the name too. Also, I'm a big baseball fan and my favorite team is the Astros. And one of my favorite all time Astros is Bob Knepper." Oct. 3, 2010:
"my name is great because I can tell whose addressing me without seeing them, before 13 years of age my best friends and relatives called my Robbie, through out junior high and high school, people I knew called me Bob even though I real don't care for "Bob" in college it changed permanently to "Rob" which is what I prefer, no one refers to me as my legal name
"Robert" now "Robert" has be delegated to my drivers license.

"Hey, who else can be called by half a dozen variations e.g. Robert, Bob, Bobby, Rob, Robbie, Robby?
Beats being called "Hey you" or "Helen".
There's never been a dictator named "Bob".
I've never been asked "How do you spell Bob?"" Dec. 15, 2009:
"My name is Robert but for years I have mostly gone by Rob. I use to hate being called Bob but now it really doesn't matter. It just shows who knows me and who doesn't. I have friends that call me Robby mostly old friends and family. I will say though that there is not many ways to tease the name and I don't ever remember being teased although I never really cared about teasing and still don't. if someone does a good job teasing I usually just tell them "good job" or "that was a good one" I think we should teach our kids to regard teasing as someone Else's problem not our own." "One of our sons is named Robert. We call him Berto but he quickly learned in Kindergarten that if he used "Rob" on schoolwork he would save himself from extra letterwriting work and he's been "Rob" at school ever since. I love the name Rob and Robert, hate Robby (Too "My Three Sons"), hate Bert, love Berto." Dec. 17, 2007:

"My father's name is Robert. He was born in the early 1950's so it was kind of common during that time.
I think it is a classic name that sounds nice. I dont really like Bob as a nickname though and Robbie makes the person sound like a little kid." Feb. 8, 2007:
"It is my name also. I'm thinking we need to have an all Robert party. You can only come if you name is Robert.
Imagine that. You'll know everyone's name at the party.
I'm bringing the beer. Who else is in?" Jan. 18, 2007:
"It is my name and I can't stand when people want to call me "Bob". I go by Rob, but would hate to be called Robby, Bobby, or Bob." Nov. 17, 2006:
"I personally enjoy the versatility of my name, I find its like a little bit of sunshine which is brought to me on an angel's back." Nov. 15, 2006:
"My husband is Robert, too, and also does not use a nickname. Every once in a while someone we both know will ask me "how is Bob?" and I have to stop and figure out who they're talking about. I agree that people should not assume that someone uses a nickname unless that person comes right out and says, "Call me _________" My brother's name is David and he has never gone by Dave, but people call him that anyway." Aug. 30, 2006:
"he is so hot and i like his alot but i am not marry to him or dating he" Jun. 9, 2006:
"I find the name Robert extremely manly!!! for a woman it is a turn on." Jun. 4, 2006:
"I have met many Roberts one of my coworkers name is Robert too. My original name is Roberto (Spanish) but most people in America pronounce it Rober'o leaving the T out. I hate that, so I introduce myself as Robert. Unless I know the person speaks spanish, then I will introduce myself as Roberto. The funny thing is, they end up calling my Rober which is fine by me too." Dec. 14, 2005:
"I love the name Robert. I am going to name my son Bryan Robert." Dec. 11, 2005:
"My husband is a Robert. Everyone I know calls him Bob but me!! When I met him he told me his name was Robert and thatýs what I called him. When I met his family and friends they are all calling him Bob and it seemed really strange and alien to me. He calls himself Robert when he introduces himself and he will always be Robert to me!" Nov. 28, 2005:
"my husband is Robert. Not Bob or Rob. When we first met I thought it was odd he didn't have a nick-name, now I can't imagine shortening it. It is a really nice name. But even when he introduces himself as "hi, I'm Robert" people say "nice to meet you Bob" why??? Don't ever assume a nick name, when someone introduces themselves use the name they tell you, obviously that is what they want to be called, otherwise they would say "but you can call me Rob"" Aug. 11, 2005:

"This is my name, but I absolutely detest being called Robert. I go by Bob. The name Robert makes me think of elementary school teachers I had in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was so dirt-common back then, but now it strikes me as nerdy (how many other "--bert" names do you hear these days??). The only advantage to my being called Robert is that it tells me immediately that a caller doesn't know me." May. 29, 2014:
"this name makes me VOMET
litterally when i hear it i barf." Jul. 8, 2007:

"My name is Robert and for years I was Robby. Rob grew on me in highschool and by college I was Rob. One of my childhood friends calls me Beto and my aunt calls me Roberto. I still go by any of them - depending on when you met me. It really is a versatile name that can grow with you. Although I really don't like Bob or Bobby." May. 8, 2009:
"i hate when people call me rob or bob they both suck" Feb. 13, 2009:
"My name is Robert Adam. And i love it. but i go by Adam" Jan. 28, 2009:
"I am Robert. After marrying and leaving my hometown at about age 27 I gave up saying I was Robert. When introduced as Robert by my new work mates, they most often would reply with Bob. My mother did not like me to be a Bob. She said they named me Robert because they like it. Now, many years later, moved again, I use both, to the confusion of some. My first inclination is to say Bob, but with respect to my parents I often use Robert again. I have always used Robert for financial or official records." Oct. 14, 2008:

"The comment writer should first learn how to write before offending people with this name. I admit that "Robert" is not an original name, but on the other hand it is used in many countries (Robert in English and German, Roberto in Spanish), so I (now you know I am called Robert, too)feel at home everywhere." "My name is Robert, but I tell people it's Roberto. Do not call me Bob or Bobby, I will become irate." Jun. 28, 2007:
"This is my name, I like Robert or Rob, not keen on Bob but I don't get too upset about it. My wife just calls me Rob and nothing else, and my parents call me Robert and nothing else. It is surprising how often my name gets mixed (with people who don't know me that well) and I often get called Richard, Robin and Rod!" May. 8, 2007:
"My dad's name was Robert. He was born in 1923 when there were loads of Roberts in his classes. He didn't want to name any of his 5 children anything as common as his name was. We was called Bob." Sep. 21, 2006:
"My brothers name is robert. We just call him Robert, or in the family we have a few other nicknames for him that I won't mention. The names fine, I dont like or dislike it, it is what it is!" Aug. 7, 2006:
