"It's my name. A good name. Means rock, stone. I heard "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin eater" a lot when young. Irritating. Glad I'm not Peter Johnson. My Swedish middle name is Axel. That got "axle grease." Hated it then, like it now. I despise it when people say someone or something "petered out"--in my presence. Thanks a lot. I don't give up or out. I'd rather hear "petered on" but that sounds weird. "Rock on" is better. Rock would have been a good first name." May. 8, 2019:

"I chose this name for my son because it is a classic and so many doctors, lawyers and news broadcasters are named Peter. It signals strength, smarts and class. Pete is such a cute, scrappy nickname. Also, I love in the bible when Jesus renames Simon as Peter, telling him is the Rock. Classic." Dec. 16, 2007:
"My name is Peter and I love. It is common enough that people know it without spelling it out but at the same time I rarely have to deal with someone else having the same name. Also, I go by Pete in some groups and Peter in other groups, thats kinda fun too." Oct. 7, 2007:

"I am named Peter and was born in 1970. I agree with many of the negative connotations listed here and experienced some teasing as a kid (everything from Peter pumpkin-eater to Peter as a pseudonym for penis. HOWEVER, starting in middle school I started asking everyone to call me Pete and began to really like my name. It seems to sound friendly, easygoing, and reliable. BTW - the bonehead above who commented "most kids named Peter smell bad" can wet-polsh my peter..." Jul. 19, 2013:

"lol my friends name it peter. hes weird. but cool. yet odd. well its kinda of hard to decribe peter. you could describe him as asian!! heck yes!! lol" Mar. 16, 2007:
"I am married to a Peter, aged 33, and though there where many Peter's in my older sister's class at school (7 yrs older), I never had one in my class. I think the name Peter may have died in the 1970's, as I haven't heard of many babies called Peter lately." Jan. 24, 2007:
"May be declining as it is used as a synonym for penis. However, being named Peter my name hasn't been used in a derogatory manner since childhood, as my nickname is "Big Peter". I can even attribute a few recieved phone numbers to my name. So name your child Big Peter and he'll get a lot of ass." Jul. 20, 2006:
