"I love my name as Colby I know one other colby personally and I know of the colby I was named after front the third season of survivor, but I love the uniqueness of the name because I?m such a crazy outgoing person and the other colby I know is the same way but we are both wild in our own ways I love my name I even convinced my teacher in 7th grade along with the whole school of 875 kids to name her son colby or her daughter colbie and she compromised with the middle name as colby for her son which made me very happy with the name. "I descend fr earliest European settlers in this country ...fr Delaware, Virginia, & Pennsylvania...in all but ONE of my recent lines. About half came from Celtic/Nordic/Swiss-Germanic lines...& later (1700) English /Irish.....the rest from (namely, Denmark or Sweden in my line)...those who invaded England (the "Angles" and made them become the "Anglish") (some of whom went on to settle in what is now Scotland/England/ Ireland. Half of my husband's lines came purely from England...and our surname reflects this. Also in this country, the majority of my lines were dairy farmers. To roll ALL THIS into ONE ball of wax...to include everything...we chose our first son's name to be "Colby." Our second was "Devin" (a variation of the true spelling of "Devon"---just so people would pronounce it correctly....) Essentially..they both mean the same thing in old English or even old Latin terms.....they both refer to the "GOOD EARTH" in one way or another....."Colby" meaning..."from the Black Earth" ( It can mean, coal, or dark village...OR black Earth--in the USA...the name "Colby farm wagon of yore...and the even present-day "Colby Cheese," refers to the richness of the BLACK EARTH---and additionally ....the "black Earth" can also refer t coal...which is found plentifully in Pennsylvania....where this part of my family landed and prospered. Meanwhile, the name "Devon" or "Devin," of our 2nd child reflected the same Celtic/English Isles origin to "go" w/our last name: It can also mean "from the GOOD Earth.....or the DEFENDER of the good Earth....and so I chose it to go along with his older brother's name....both, essentially linked in the goodness of the Earth, esp the agricultural/ PLUS Nordic/Celtic, and so on, names that are still assigned today to things relating to their names: Colby Cheese, the past Colby farm wagon.....Devonshire (a county) in So England..and so on...."
