  • "I'm a man and was born in 1962. It was my grandfather's name. It is a very old Celtic word that means "Dweller of the Cliffs" or "Cliff-Dweller." I've seen it translated as "Dweller of the High Places." "Clive", "Cliff", and "Clifton" are the more recent Anglo derivatives of the name. I appreciate my name now very much. When I was a kid, the nicknames were endless, but always funny." Mar. 4, 2015: Report as inappropriate

  • "My husbands name is Cleve people always spell it wrong, or call him Clive. I thing it is a lovely name and great to to married to someone with such a unique name. Here in Australia anyway it seems rare." Dec. 30, 2012: Report as inappropriate

  • "Cleve is a fun name lalal, yummie- i is talkin to him right now.. yummie again" Mar. 20, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Cleve, and I am a girl. My fathers name is Cleve aswell and I received his name. I haven't always liked my name, but I have gotten used to it over the years (I am now 28) I spell it "Cleave" now, but it is still on my birth cert as cleve. I think it looks more feminine with the "a". I find it hard to tell people over the phone my name as it is only one syllable, and no one has ever heard this name, so I am constanly getting..."sorry what was your name again", which gets a wee bit tiresome. At the end of the day though, It is nice to have a name no one else has." Feb. 7, 2006: Report as inappropriate

  • "I have met one other person with the my name. I was in the hospital after a car accident and an intern came up to visit me because he saw my name on the patient list and I was the first person he said he had ever met with his name. I was named after my grandfather, who lived in West Virginia. I'm told that although it was not a common name by any means, it was not that unusual in that area of the country during the early-mid 1900's." Jun. 12, 2010: Report as inappropriate
