  • "It's a beautiful thing in life that there are so many, many names to chose from to give our sons (and daughters). Don't like Caleb? Fine, go name your child something else! No need to dis on anyone else's choice. Chances are there are people who are biting their tongues about your own given name. I should know, I don't care one bit for my own given name.. it evokes images of a little girl on a Swiss Mountain top, yodeling. I would never dis another person's choice. I may not chose it for my own son, but hey, we can't all be called the same thing!... I for one, did chose to name my son Caleb and, well, obviously, I love the name." • "My son's name is EMANUEL CALEB. The my wife and i names him this was because being a christian family we believed that the devil wanted to take him from us. We were told 27 times to abort him because he was going to have downsyndrom. Well I am goin to say this my son was born august 4th 7lb 6oz 21 inches long and healthy as can be. My caleb made it to his promised land. If anyone lived in Chicago August 4th 2008 at around 830pm a real bad storm hit us and the streets were flooding and alot of bad things were happening. My only explaination is that there was a war between heaven and hell because we trusted in GOD that our son was going to be born healthy. Trust in God not god's. There is only one true God. Call Him up, allow Him in. John 3:16. The RIOS FAMILY CHICAGO IL" Aug. 17, 2009: Report as inappropriate

And frankly he looked like a Caleb. People assume it's spelled KALOB though and pronounce it that way. Our boy is devoted to God and quite precious. Hopefully he'll be strong and virtuous like the Caleb in the Scriptures too." Jun. 30, 2009: Report as inappropriate

  • "Actually a simple look at a Hebrew/English dictionary requires more knowledge than just looking up words. It's helpful to know that there were no vowels in Hebrew so any difference between the two words in ancient Hebrew is only assumed." May. 19, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "I named my 2nd son Caleb and my first is Joshua for a specific reason. I am a religious person. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones of that generation to be let into the promised land because they were the only ones who brought back good news to Moses. I love the name both because of the connection and also because it is different." May. 7, 2008: Report as inappropriate

Mar. 20, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "Many name books / websites incorrectly list the meaning of CALEB as "Dog". However, a simple look in a Hebrew / English dctionary one will see that "dog" in Hebrew is CELEB, not CALEB. **Note** the first vowel is different. CALEB is actually a compound word in Hebrew - something that is quite common in ancient Hebrew. Col (Cuf + Lamed) = all or whole. Lev (Lamed + Vet) = heart. Therefore, CALEB (or COLEV as pronounced in Hebrew) actually means "whole hearted"." Feb. 21, 2008: Report as inappropriate

  • "Let me first preface this with: I am not an overly religious person, or even a religious person, for that matter. I have my beliefs, but...I don't think many would believe it if I went ahead and shared my experience, but I'm here so I'll give it a try. Last night about 10:30pm the phone rang unexpectedly, I picked it up. It was someone calling on a wrong number. For whatever reason we got to talking and his name is Caleb. I have never spent so much time talking to someone I didn't know and finding out I had so much in common with. The past two months have been literal hell to put it lightly, but I'm holding true to the fact that "everything happens for a reason". Something kept telling me that I needed to look up the meaning of his name to fully understand (which I have never done before). Needless to say I looked it up and something "clicked". Weird coincidence or something more??? I don't know, all I know is his name could have been a trillion different names with a trillion different meanings, but it wasn't. Whatever the case, honestly I think the name Caleb is awesome -- which is actually how our conversation started...Good luck to all the Caleb out there..." Jun. 1, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am due to be enduced tomorrow (29/5/07), guaranteed that if I have a boy he will be called Caleb - I found the name in a book called "21st Century Baby Names" where they have the meaning as "bold", I know some sites say it means "dog" but there are also many that say "dogged and determined". If you look hard enough you can find good, bad and indifferent meanings for all names, all I know is that I think its a lovely name and if I do have a boy to call Caleb that they will be able to create their own meaning of the name." May. 28, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "my newborn son is named Caleb. I notice that people say "cay-lub" more than the correct way which is "cay-leb". At least that's how I say it! Either way it is beautiful to me. Caleb has a classic, strong, non-trendy feel to it, and it still feels a bit unusual even though it is gaining quite a bit in popularity. An almost exotic quality to it. Of course I love it, it's my adorable son's name!" Mar. 29, 2007: Report as inappropriate

I liked it because of the story in the Bible - he was one of the only two warriors of God who got to enter into the Promised Land because of his trust and faithfulness in the Lord. Little did I know the meaning of the name carried into our lives: I almost died during giving birth to my son (whom also the doctor warned that he might be brain-damaged or came out dead). Each day, Caleb, my healthy and strong son is a constant reminder of God's faithfulness in my life." Feb. 23, 2007: Report as inappropriate

  • "My name is Caleb and I have never really cared for the name. I've always wished that I had gone by my middle name instead. Most people don't even recognize the name and literally 99% of the time I say : "Hi, I'm Caleb", the person responds: "What was that?" or "Pardon me?". People also misspell and mispronounce it more often than not. I think it is just an awkward name. I have heard and read a lot of people say that they think it is because of the "b" on the end." • "Everyone read this please Many name books / websites list the meaning of CALEB as "Dog". Therefore, CALEB (or COLEV as pronounced in Hebrew) actually means "whole hearted". Faithful could be another translation. However, if you read in the Hebrew Bible the exploits of CALEB (as in one of the twelve spies who went into Caanan Numbers 13:6 & 13:30), one will see that he wasn't simply faithful, but that he served the God of ISRAEL with his whole heart. IE: He was the first to speak up and say, "let's go and conquer this land," (paraphrased). It wasn't JOSHUA (the leader of the 12 spies), but CALEB who was encouraging Israel to follow God inspite of the opposition from the other 10 spies. Therefore, the ancient meaning of CALEB is: "whole h" Mar. 12, 2009: Report as inappropriate
