I guess she missed her & wanted to name my daughter Yanira, I like it alot, its very unique, hardy anyone has it. We are from San Diego, CA & one time at the store this guy heard me calling my daughters name & asked me How I spelled it, he said his wife also has the same name, same way spelled too. Its a very pretty name, & its meaning is wanted or something about being a miracle." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 22, 2009: "I can't believe there are other "Yanira's" out there! I always hated my name growing up, especially at school since it would get mispronounced all the time. My parents are Salvadorian and Spanish but I was born in the US and live in California. I finally gave up on trying to get people to pronounce it correctly so after I finished college and went into the workforce I started using "Elizabeth" on my resume's (which is my middle name). It's a unique name but hard to prounce if you are not latino." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 12, 2009: "My name is "Yanira Elizabeth" from el salvador 48 years old. "YANIRA" is a hebrew name meaning "He answers" my grand parents come from the middle east. Since I remember I always get compliments from people specially from anglo community. Peolple mis pronounce my name and sometimes call me annita or guanita not even close, because of the "Y" english sound." (Report as inappropriate)

At least I never have thought of my self as common. It's one of the things that makes us unique. Celebrate that you are different with such an unusual, but beautiful name. (I'm from PR and old enough to know that there are not too many with our name. you hear it,but not that often)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 23, 2008: "Hello. My name is Yanira.I'm also from Puerto Rico, but so far the oldest of all. I'm almost 50 years old, so that makes me older than our friend Yanira Maythe from Califfornia. I know of the existance of another Yanira older than I, which was the little girl that inspired my mother to name me with this beautiful name. I don't know her, but she should be around 55 years old. All I know is her family name and that she lived in the area of Rio Piedras, PR in the mid 50's. I once found our name in a Spanish version of The Illiad by Homer. Yanira was one of the nymphs serving the God in the Oceans.I love my name. I've always thought of it as different, but very unique and special.I'm different, but I like to be different. We are special people. We have a very special name. By hte way, I have a midle name. Del Carmen." (Report as inappropriate)
