Comment left Jun 06, 2010: "I named my daughter Xiomara Lamees. I worked with a woman named Xiomara and went to college with a woman named Lamees. Lamees is Arabic and my name is Salema, which is also Arabic. I still have never heard a name as beautiful as Xiomara. She also has lots of nicknames: "X," "C," and Samara." • Comment left May 28, 2010: "My name is Emma Xiomara. It was originally just Xiomara but after becoming a U.S. Citizen, I added Emma because of my mother's name. Her name was Enma (notice the N). I wanted to honor her as she passed away when I was three. I was born in Honduras and the name Xiomara is popular there. In the U.S. people would mispronounced it alot pronouncing the "X". It was probably because of Xiomara Alfaro that I was named. About 20 years ago, I found the album of Xiomara Alfaro. I used to play it alot. She had such a beatiful voice. I still have the record." Comment left May 16, 2010: "My name is Xiomara and it was given to me by my mother who was fascinated with the Cuban singer Xiomara Alvaro. I'm 43 years old and I'm proud of my name. My daughter's name is a combination of my two names: Xiomara Maria > Xie-Marie. I live on the island of Aruba and we have a lot of Xiomara's walking around. Here on the island most people know how to pronounce my name corectly. My friends call me also Xio and Xiomi. I call my daughter Xie. So it's Xio & Xie everywhere." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 12, 2010: "Hello my name is Xiomara Isilma. My mom gave me the name Xiomara because a beloved niece of hers was also named Xiomara. Although she is much older then I am. I have had people call me "X", XIO, Little Z, X, Shamara, Xiomy etc. Ive always had teachers in school mispronounce it but i still loe my name. Its very exotic and beautiful & it makes me, ME." • Comment left Feb 21, 2010: "Xiomara Alfaro, a soprano voice pop singer from Cuba was born in 1930. I'm not Cuban and it's possible that I was named after Xiomara Alfaro in the 1940s. In any case, the best explanation I've heard about the meaning of the name, is that there was a native tribe in Cuba named Xiomara. As far as I know, Xiomara Alfaro is the original since I don't know of any other Xiomara older than she. I've not seen any evidence that the name comes from Greece or any Arab country." Comment left Feb 03, 2010: "LIke many have said, my name is Xiomara, I am PuertoRican and I was named by my father after the Cuban singer Xiomara Alfaro. I am currently 30 years old living in Pennsylvania and as many others, how my name has been perceived by others over the years has changed drastically. In my childhood in Puerto Rico, there were no problems. It is easily pronounced in Spanish. However, I didn't know any other Xiomaras. When we moved to Pennsylvania, I spent most of the time teaching others how to say it, and although some did say my name was 'different', I don't recall ever being teased about it. As I've gotten older, I also hear more often that my name is pretty, different, and exotic. To this day, there isn't another Xiomara in my immediate circle of friends and colleagues, although my husband's cousin's name is also Xiomara and since I took his last name, the two of us are named exactly the same, which is so cool considering I havent met too many Xiomaras in my lifetime! Overall, I love the name. I have a strong character and I think its meaning fits my personality very well. I pronounce it C-O-mara and although I have friends who call me 'Z', Xio, or X, I like most how my family and closest friends call me- Xiomy." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 03, 2010: "My name is Maria which is very common so I named my daughter Xiomara because it is sort of exotic. The comment by the 11 yr old Xiomara made me smile....I call MY Xio.."X" sometimes. lol I bet you all are beautiful like my Xio :)" (Report as inappropriate)

I am fron El Salvador and as the yrs have passed, I've learned to love my name and if the people that meet me dont' like or understand my name, then I guess that is their loss. I don't have any girls but I do hope that one day one of my boys will keep my name going" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 01, 2009: "Hello, my name is Xiomara and I'm Puertorican. My mother named me after the Cuban singer Xiomara Alfaro. I really love my name and it flows nicely with my last name. I never had any problems helping people pronounce my name and it is a great conversation starter because it is unique. I'm currently 36 years old and growing up I was the only person with the name. Now it has become more common but I still don't know that many Xiomara's. My friends and family often calls me Xio or Xiomy. I also love the meaning of my name which is "Ready for Battle"." Comment left Sep 01, 2009: "I have a 10 month old Daughter and her name is Xiomara Liana. My husband and I are both puertorican and we wanted a very Spanish name. Before we named her we looked up the definition and read several times that it means Female warrior/fighter, and that she is!! We have a very beautiful, happy baby with a strong personality. If your name is Xiomara Love your name it's Beautiful!!!" (Report as inappropriate)
