Comment left May 27, 2009: "This is my name, pronounced vyeohluh, accent on the second syllable. While it's mispronounced a lot, it's really pretty and I'm glad my parents gave me a unique, classy name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 30, 2008: "Hie i am viola, i have met a few violas, i like my name i think its unique and cute and that just goes with the beautiful lady that iam. the only thing i hate is whe people pronounse it va-o-la i like it pronounsed vee-o-la" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 06, 2008: "Has a nostalgic 1920s feel to it, and though it is an old lady name, it's not part of that infamous Ethel/Eunice/Beulah/Bertha gang, and because Violet is fairly common these days thanks to celebrity use, maybe Viola deserves a second chance, whether it carries that Joan Blondell image or not. Maybe Viola will become the next 'Violet' if the latter goes a bit too far, a bit over the top, but then again it'll probably just stay on the unique side." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 27, 2008: "Even if the 1978 film 'Grease' is still watched and enjoyed, it would be nice to once in a while see this name on a pretty little girl, even if it does conjure up that cafeteria manageress in the film. That part was, after all, played by actress Joan Blondell, who in the Thirties and Forties was, along with her sister Gloria Blondell, a glamorous Hollywood actress (not to mention being married to and subsequently divorced from actor Dick Powell during that period). Plus, who can forget the character Viola in Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night, even though she disguises herself as a man in a bid to join an all-male fencing team?" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 05, 2008: "Not too bad, this name. It may have been somewhat popular a century ago, yet as an "old" name of today it seems to be more associated with the retro-chic names of Pearl, Matilda, Frances, and Hazel than with them horribly outdated Ethel, Beulah, Irma, and Hortense type names. I think that despite the cafeteria manageress Viola in the 1978 film 'Grease', the name Viola deserves a second chance, especially with Violet fairly common these days (thanks to Garfleck and to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl whose gran was a Violet)." Comment left Jan 18, 2008: "Viola was the name of Joan Blondell's character in the 1978 film Grease and she was known as 'Vi'. She was the manageress of the cafeteria where Danny and Sandy (aka John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John) and all of their friends - Frenchy (Didi Conn), Rizzo (Stockard Channing), and Kenickie (Jeff Conway) - often met." Comment left Sep 22, 2007: "I absolutely adore this name and am going to name my baby girl when she is born in January 2008. I have been a 1920s fan for so long and of course, that name was extremely popular during that era. Everyone I have asked loves this name. It is old fashioned yet fresh and extremely adorable. I am so happy that it is not popular, as my adorable little girl will feel unique. It has a lot of cute nicknames attatched(vi, lola etc)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 30, 2007: "I love the name Viola! Its a beautiful eligent name!I like names that are not very popular because they are really pretty!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 16, 2007: "I got the name from Shakespeare in Love. I think it is sooo beautiful. It reminds me of a purple flower and the Cinderella of instruments. I may be calling my daughter this after my grandfather, Vincenzo, since he was a musician and a graceful man. If children do not like Viola, they can modernize it and say Violet." Comment left Jul 06, 2007: "I love the name Viola. It's a classically beautiful name bequethed to a Shakespeare heroine known for her beauty and smarts. I'd rather have a name that no one else has and have it be beautiful, then have something awful and popular." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 11, 2007: "i hate my name viola no one has that name i HATE IT" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 08, 2007: "Another "classic" name that can be brought back!!! A nice alternative to Violet, which might become too popular because of celebrity use (Ben/Jen, Dave Grohl)" (Report as inappropriate)
