Comment left Jul 18, 2009: "Yes, it's my name also. It is spelled Twila and pronounced Twielah. I too went through a childhood where everyone else had a common name..but me...and I hated it. I am 58 years old and love the name. People always remember me because it's so unusual. I have met a few other Twilas...but not too many. I am always excited to meet another Twila!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 02, 2009: "When I need to tell anyone my name Twila and they hear it for the first time, they say "what a beautiful name"" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 25, 2009: "Well, my name is always become misprounced as the names on this page. My name is Tywula. you pronounce it just how it sounds. ty wu la. I was told it is swahili and means queen of blackness. I too hated my name as a child because kid teased me and I could never found a keychain or name plate with my name. But the older I got, I loved my name. Because it was unique and special. I loved knowone has my name. If there is anyone out there that shares this name. I love to here a comment about your name and what you were told it means." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 28, 2008: "I love my name as well!! I spell it Twilah which does appear to be unique. I have always been told that with that spelling that my name was from a West Coast Indian Tribe that meant princess or goddess of love. It always made things interesting as a teenager when someone would ask me what my name meant! Since becoming an adult I have met a number of women with the name Twilah (different spellings of course) and we are all around the same age." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 25, 2008: "I Used To Hate My Name As a Child Mostly only becuase all the other kids at school had cool pencils with there names on them and i could never find any with mine. i Am Now 20 And Quite Like My Name Now bcuz Its Different. ive only ever talked to 1 other person named Twyla. when My water Broke While Preggo with My Son I call Labout and Delivery A Woman Answer The Phone And Said I This is Twyla. i was stunned i just said hi this is twyla.." • Comment left Sep 16, 2008: "This is my name also and I am 22. I have met two other Twilas but they do not spell it like me and are much older. I like it because it is unique and people think they know me becaus ethey have heard of my name. I dont think I could be called anything else. People also ask me (if they do not see me) if I am African American because of the name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 07, 2008: "Twyla is our cat's name. She has extra toes in front, so she looked like she was wearing ballet slippers and standing in second position. Also she likes to stand on her back feet and can actually walk around that way. She looked like a dancer, so we named her for the choreographer Twyla Tharp. We don't have any regrets about her name, nor does Twyla. She is the only Twyla (canine or feline) on our Vet's register." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 10, 2008: "ITS MY NAME ALSO BUT I SPELL IT TWILA I ALWAYS WANTED THE SPELLING CHANGED TO TWYLA THINKING THIS WOULD STOP PEOPLE CALLING ME TWILL A LOL I LOVE IT!!! IVE MET ON LADT NAME TWYLA SHE WAS IN HER 70'S I AM 44YRS OLD LOVE IT BECAUSE IT IS UNIQUE!!! SOME SPELLINGS I HAVE ENCOUNTERED TWILAH TWILLA TWELA LILA TWALALA LOL" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 23, 2008: "As anoher Twyla i never knew we had a popular name and it's very comforting that you all get called the same names and have been called all the names i remember from school...oh toilet. I'll give you toilet i thought. Now i like it. My boyfriend sometimes calls out to me as tallula but more like taluuuuuuulahhhhhhhh. I've never met another twyla either. : (" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 10, 2008: "This is my name, and people remember me because of how unique it is. I know of one other Twyla when I was growing up; I used to hate my name when I was a kid, I wanted to be Jennifer or Julie. I'm so happy I have the name I do now! People compliment it all the time. I'm happy to be Twyla." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 23, 2008: "I heard a woman on TV say that her name is Twyla and it is Indian and means flower. The web says it is English. There is another Twyla that lives about 20 miles from me and everyone thinks we are the same person because we look alike. I know of 6 Twyla's." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 28, 2007: "I used to hate my name because it is unusual, but I like it now for that very reason! I have met only 2-3 Twylas in my life and what a trip that was. Everyone seems to know a Twyla or 2. I always have to spell it for people and it's mispronounced about half the time." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 21, 2007: "Yes, my name is Twyla and I am very proud of my name, especially since my mother really liked it. I also find it interesting that people always tell me of someone else they know with my name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 11, 2007: "It's my name and I love it! People are starting to get the hang of it, after 43 years . My name is pronounced like twi-lah; I've met two other women with the same name. I read somewhere once that Twyla is an Old English name which means woven of two threads; it also has several African derivations in the Swahili and Zulu languages." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 29, 2007: "No, its not my name, but it is an old family name from centuries ago. There seemed to be a few girls named Twyla, and some called Thursa, in my mother's family. I think the last time was when two sisters were called Twyla and Thursa about two hundred years ago. I really like these names, but they seem to be very rare here in the UK. Almost forgot...I worked with someone called Twyla years ago, but she hated it and called herself Charlie!" (Report as inappropriate)

A COUPLE ARE EVEN FAMOUS (TWYLA THARP (DANCER) AND TWILA PARIS (SINGER). IT IS AN OLD FASHIONED NAME LIKE ETHEL OR OPAL. WHEN I WAS A CHILD THEY CALLED ME TOILET AND SUCH.
