Comment left Jul 10, 2008: "I was born in 1970 and my mom used to babysit a girl also named Tawnya. She liked it so much that she named me after her. I have had trouble with people misprounouncing my name my entire life. Usually I get Tawanna or Tawyna and the first day of school I could always tell when the teacher got to my name on roll call because they would sit and study it for a second. Some got it right but more often they pronounced it wrong. I have people at work who call me Tawanna even though I've corrected them and they have heard other people call me Tawnya. I love that the name Tawnya doesn't really have any stereotypes-meaning that when the name is said-not a certain kind of person comes to mind. My name is sometimes spelled wrong by others in such a way that the n and the y are switched like: Tawyna. Thus people will also say it like taw-een-a. Weird I know.

As well I have only met one person with the same name as me, so people never get that confusion of hanging out with two people with the same name as mine. I've had people spell my name wrong like "Tanya" "Tawyna" "Tonya" etc. But like I said, it's not that bad. Plus unlike many people with boring name meanings, mine means fairy princess. I get "Twana", "Tawanna" etc. I have learned it is easier to tell people it is like spelling Dawn or fawn with "ya" put at the end of "Tawn". Or to spell Tawny with an "a" at the end of it. I have never met anyone that spells it the same. My mothers'model instructor spelled her name that way. I get frustrated with people who say it wrong.
