Comment left Oct 08, 2009: "I was born in 1972, my name is... obviously Tawnya :) I was kind of confused with respect to the pronounciation of my name when I was growing up because everyone (even my own parents) pronounced it differently. My mom calls me Tawnya (which I like and go by) my father calls me Tawny-a (or Tawnee-ya - don't like, don't go by) and everyone else has called me either Tanya, Tawanya or even Lawanda (??)I've been called Dawn as well. Personally, I don't care how you spell it - just pronounce it properly! Has anyone else ever encountered an instance where you're introduced to someone properly and the person you've been introduced to repeats your name in mumble form because they're not really sure what they heard, are too ignorant to ask you to repeat it or don't think you'll notice? :)" (Report as inappropriate)

Now that I am older, it is unique and I love it. I still get called Tawana- what ever that is. look at it, sound it out, its TAWN-YA. I have had trouble with people misprounouncing my name my entire life. Usually I get Tawanna or Tawyna and the first day of school I could always tell when the teacher got to my name on roll call because they would sit and study it for a second. Some got it right but more often they pronounced it wrong. I have people at work who call me Tawanna even though I've corrected them and they have heard other people call me Tawnya.
