My aunt gave me the name and she spelled it Tameka and when my mother registered me it was written Taimeka. I love it, its so different. Growing up there were so many people who had my name and as I got older and entered the business world, the numbers declined; and my name became exotic and fascinating. Comment left Aug 26, 2008: "Hi my name is Tameeka..Yes spelt with 2e's like the 5th comment above. I am 35 years old which is hard to find people of my age with this name. I say I am unique because I am probably one of the first US based people with this name. According to the US census this baby girl name became one of the fastest growing in the early to mid 70's. I believe it to be true, until someone older than myself come forward with this name. LOL My Mom said she got my name from a old japanese movie in the 70's called "a girl name Tamiko" she said she didn't like the the "o" in Tamiko, so she sat down and played with the spelling and came up with Tameeka. In the mid 90's I worked with a japanese girl who said wow do you know you have a special name? I asked her what did it mean she said "gental lady" So for all the ignorant people who link this name to race or call it "ghetto", they are so far off target. I have had my name mispronounced several times(Time-ka,Tim,ka) and to this day it is still mispronounced as Ty-meka. Just because it is spelled with an I. I was told that it was spelled wrong or that is not the right way to spell it.
