I also found out that Tameka means "twin" and yes, I am a Gemini. I was names after a female wrestler so I find that to be hilarious. Love you Tameka(s)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 04, 2010: "I'm 34 year old African-American in the US, my mother had a goddaughter named Shameka she liked the name but changed it a little to Tameka, she said she'd never heard the name until after she brought me home on the news there was an 80 year old caucasian lady living in South Africa named Tameka! My aunt also liked the name so I have a cousin named Tameko! I always thought my name was ghetto when I was a kid but now that I'm an adult I've learned how to appreciate it!" Comment left Oct 02, 2009: "Almost a year later my comment is to Aneia. There is no such thing as a real or unreal name. Just as there is no correct spelling or incorrect spelling. If you are real your name is real. How ever you spell it pronounce it it is real. People have always created names and I suspect they always will. What is a "Ghetto Name"? If a Mary lives in the ghetto is Mary a ghetto name? I know hat people mean by that but come on lets not get into that celebrate who you are and embrace it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 18, 2009: "My name is Tamica (pronounced Tameeka). Even into adulthood, I still get the "ghetto name" jokes and it is very annoying. Fortunately, I have always embraced my ethnicity and never allowed the ignorant remarks of a few people hold me back. Ironically, I often get "I LOVE your name! It's beautiful!" from colleagues in corporate America who have never heard of my name.
I'm so glad that I came across this site. It is great to see my name celebrated and embraced by so many beautiful and intelligent women. I love it!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 04, 2009: "My name is spelled Temeka. I found out it means "twin",which matches my sign. Im a Gemini. I love my name even though its always misspelled." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 27, 2009: "Many people spell it with an I. I always say there is a ME in Tameka. I only have met a few people with this name. I was born in Alabama and grew up in the North East. Many people ask me the origin of my name. I really like my name. I have never been told it is ghetto. People call me, Meka." (Report as inappropriate)
