The nick names people tend to call me are Roxy, Rox, and Anne. When I was little I didnt really like my name but the more I grew the more I loved my name.I dont know any Roxannes besides myself so my name makes me feel unique espeacially when people complement it. I like my name because it is not a common name but I almost never have to pronounce it again for people. I think Roxanne is a strong name and I feel strong. We fell in love with 'Roxanne' for a few reasons: One is that it is uncommon and i've only met about three Roxanne's in my life. Not many Roxanne's in Georgia. Two, is that it has some unique letters. R names that are strickly feminine are in short supply, and having an X in there just gives it an exotic edge. Three, it gives the adorably cute & fiesty nickname 'Roxy'. We have gotten tons of compliments for having a Roxy and most people use the same word to describe it: 'jazzy'. It's got pizazz and brings to mind a spunky flapper girl from the 1920s (mostly thanks to Roxie Hart from the 'Chicago' musical) and for the newer generation, a free-spirited tropical surfer girl lifestyle (with the Quiksilver Roxy brand of surfwear for girls). And lastly, the most important reason we loved the name is because the meaning is beautiful. It is Persian (another exotic twist!) and means 'Dawn' or 'Sunrise'. In the Bible, God says that though sorrows may last for the night, HIS JOY comes in the morning. We may go through disappointments or hard times, but God promises that His Joy & Light will shine on us once again. And what a beautiful promise that is!" (Report as inappropriate)
