I used to hate my name also but as I have aged I really grown to like it, I think because, as someone else has said, it is not so common. I get called Chelle, and Chelley also but I also get called Rocky, my family tell me the Rocky part was more likely given to me because as a 4 year old I would dance madly along to The Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!. Yes, I too was teased and called Roche at school after Roche Pharmaceuticals. But after all of the torment, I really have grown to love my name, it was given to me for a reason, and I love it when people say to me "Oh what a beautiful/pretty name, I have never heard that name before"..." I do understand the person that said" some people pronounce it so harsh"They pronounce it ROW-shell and that sounds harsh to me. Even though there is a city in France called La Rochelle, no one uses Rochelle as a first name. Comment left Dec 01, 2008: "I live on the West Coast, but grew up in North East Texas on the border of Louisiana. Louisiana was settled by the French, so having a French name was great. Most people asked me why I wasn't black because "Rochelle is a black name" I was told. (I'm half caucasian and half mexican.) What's funny about that is my mom was watching a christian program and named me after a black woman that was called to the stage. When I was younger I didn't like my name, but over time have only heard good things about my name. People mostly say they have never heard of "Rochelle" before and that it is a beautiful name. People on the West Coast need to learn more geography because New Rochelle of New York is on the map. And come to find out there are five towns in America that are named Rochelle. I hope to visit La Rochelle in France and all the Rochelle's in the U.S. I LOVE my name and it is very much a part of who I am. I wouldn't change it for the world. I have read several meanings of the name from the French version "little Rock" to the German version "Rest" and "Roar."

Comment left Sep 01, 2008: "my name is Rochelle. it's a... different name to say the least, but most everyone i know says its beautiful. i only find it unfortunate that i can't seem to have any cool nick name other than something dumb like "rocky." people pronounce it wrong a lot. i had a teacher for 3 years and she still says it wrong. i've never met someone else in person with the same name as me. it's nice have an different sort of name. i'm only 16 though so, i haven't ben around too long to have met many people with the sam name as myself. you can make the name what you want it, no matter what the name is. own it. make it yours. there will never be anyone else exactly like you, and that's really the way it should be."
