User Comments about the name Ouida
Comment left Sep 03, 2009: "My middle name is Ouida. I used to hate it as a young girl although I am currently only 28. I was named after my aunt Ouida. I was told that my grandfather had known an Indian woman with that name and loved it, so he named his daughter and in turn they named me. I love it now, I think it is very exotic and rare. I would hate for it to become very popular now." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 30, 2008: "I have lived with this name for 32 years. At times I have loved and hated it! And yes, many people use a 'Q' instead of "O" or a "V" instead of "U". I've only meet one other person with this name. My Mamall, or for those of you not from the south, my grandmother. I thank my mom for giving my her name and my nanny's name. For although they are both walking along the streets of gold. I always think of them when I here my name!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 17, 2008: "Marie Louise de la Ramee adopted this as her nom de plume when she began writing novels in the 19th century. It hasn't really been in use for the last 60 years, all the more reason for me and several other people to think that Ouida, at last, is a very cool name, much more so than either Emily or Emma (at present the no.1 and no.2 girls' names in the United States respectively). Many of the "O" names (Oscar, Otto, and Olive - but not Orville or Osmond) have become cool lately, so I think Ouida is now ripe for adoption among cutting-edge parents in certain parts of the world. Maybe a celebrity couple may one day pick this name for their daughter, in the same way Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher chose Olive for theirs in 2007." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 31, 2006: "This has been my name for over 50 years now and yes, it is hard for most everyone to pronounce and spell. They want to spell it with a Q instead of an O. It is pronounced we-duh. I have only met 2 other people in my lifetime with this name. I love having a unique name and it is a wonderful ice breaker and helped me overcome my shy nature when I was a teenager. I would love to have a granddaughter named after me. I think it is a beautiful name." (Report as inappropriate)
