No one had ever heard of the name while I was growing up...it's strange to hear it used so often now that it's almost common. But I've seen it spelled Makayla, McKayla, and, with me, people are always writing "Micheala." (Mixing up the "e" with the "a." They would spell it as "Micheala" or "Micaela" instead of Michaela which is the correct way of spelling my name. Some of my friends would even call me "Mishala" or "Mah-k-la" and well I never use to like it because my name is really pronounced as "Me-Kay-la." But most of the time, my friends call Micky or Chela. Above all this, I love my name...many people tell me they like it because its a beautiful name and the meaning of it too, which is "who is like God?" In German the name is quite common, and its pronounced like Mee-sha-a-la. It is from hebrew origin and means "who is like god?".
